another good stat, in 31 minutes Mahinmi only had 2 fouls, compared to last game where he played 28 minutes and 10 fouls. Ofcourse we all know the refs last game were just bad but it is good to see him finally limit his fouls.

Previous 2 games he was 7 and 10, tonight 2, for anyone that watched the game , did it look like he was moving well , playing good defense?

Finley is a better all-around shooter with a more consistent, pure stroke. He's proven.

But I can't disagree that Finley's defense (or lack thereof) negates his better shooting stroke.
I agree that Hairston can't match Finley's resume, but Fin's a very streaky shooter and as of the last time we saw him didn't seem to even pretend to care about grabbing rebounds or playing defense, nor has he been forced to by the coaching staff. Come next playoffs, he's going to be a year older. I love Fin, but that's the cold hard truth.

BTW, just saw the replay of Hairston's dunk...very Jefferson-esque with high, soaring elevation and an emphatic finish.

The TOs in question for me regarding Hill are the early ones. The last two were definitely turnovers.

He might have had 5/6 and I just missed it.

Hairston is relatively short and has a wide body but he can really jump when he gets to plant his feet. And it's a powerful jump.

Oh, my bad ... missed that post. Yeah, I just watched his turnovers and they were all legit except for two. Hairston should have gotten the turnover on the backcourt violation and that block should have been a missed field goal and not a turnover.

Spurs Pull Away in Fourth To Defeat Oklahoma City
    Posted Jul 16 2009 10:38PM

LAS VEGAS, July 16 - The San Antonio Spurs used a 26-point fourth quarter to defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder 85-76 in 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA SPORTS action at the Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas.
San Antonio trailed most of the game, overcoming as much as an 11-point deficit in the third quarter in the win. The Thunder scored only 17 points in the final frame. DaJuan Blair and George Hill each scored 20 points for the Spurs, while Malik Hairston paced the team with 16. Oklahoma City's D.J. White scored 17 points in the loss, while teammates Robert Vaden and Serge Ibaka contributed with 16 and 15, respectively.

"We came a long way tonight - it was a fun game," said Blair on the outing. "I just came out here and played and got a chance to get the victory, so it was good."

Kyle Weaver's seven-point first quarter helped Oklahoma City dominate the first period, leading by as many as eight points before finishing with a seven-point lead, 22-15 at the end of one. San Antonio fought back in the second quarter, taking the lead with 2:43 to play, but White scored 11 points on four-of-four shooting from the field to keep San Antonio at bay. The Spurs outscored Oklahoma City 26-20 in the second quarter, but it wasn't enough - the Thunder took a one point lead, 42-41, into the halftime break.

Both teams were sluggish out of the half, as Oklahoma City scored 17 points and San Antonio scored only 15. At the end of three, the Thunder was hanging onto a three-point lead, 59-56.

just watched the 1st and 4th quarters over, since I wasn't able to before..my observations..

George Bell..great game, as expected..very encouraged by the way he's been finishing at the rim..it'll obviously be more difficult at the NBA level with the bigger bodies, but he's hard to stop when he's aggressive..

he had a number of turnovers, but his passing looked very good tonight..he's definitely looked like he's worked on it..he made a number of impressive passes to the rolling big men..nice to see that he's developing some chemistry with Blair and Ian, since he'll very likely be playing with them against other bench units this year..

defense was great, as usual..his ability to play the passing lanes is going to help us a lot, since our defense has never been known for generating turnovers, even when the team was the best defensive in the NBA for all those years..

Dejuan Blair..dominant once again, and looked like an NBA veteran playing against rookies once again..he didn't look like he gave too much effort on the boards, as he missed out on a few that he could have gotten with more effort..understandable..he was focused on scoring, and he clearly got whatever he wanted..

showed some very nice post moves, I had no idea that he had it in him..highlighted by a very nice spin move to beat his defender and finish with a lay-up..some nice hook shots, and very nice first-steps in the mid-range area..

his defense still needs work though, but that's natural at this stage..

Ian Mahinmi..another solid game..he was ignored a lot, as usual, but was very productive when he got his touches..very active on the boards, forced about 3 out of bounds on the opposition with his attempt at rebounds..

very good at staying out of foul trouble, while continuing to contest shots..his 2nd foul was on an entry pass in the middle of everybody, so he really only had 1 foul on a scoring chance..what's funny is that he didn't do much different than he did last game, but last game was just very horribly officiated..

his potential is clear, and he's going to have a physical advantage over a lot of bench players in the NBA this season..the guy is very quick for his size, and he has nice athleticism..barring injury, I would honestly be surprised if Ian doesn't have success against the other team's bench big men, especially if Manu is feeding him..

Malik Hairston..another very good game..so far in the 3 SL games, he's literally had about 10 shots from 3-point range where his foot was on the line..very strange..his shot clearly looks improved though, to the point where I'm surprised when he misses..

this was easily his best all-around game though..his defense was completely dominant, contested shots very well..crashed the boards very well..

    nobody else worth mentioning..

Gist still look lost out there..I don't think he has a future in this league with the Spurs..like Bruno said about Marcus Williams, I don't think Gist really knows what his "niche" is going to be..he's really stuck on the court..he looked lost at times when he had the ball in his hands, not knowing whether to face up, or to post up..I think he's years away from being an NBA player, and he's gonna have to fully commit as either a big man that plays inside, or a perimeter player..

he's gonna need to be a SF IMO, and he'll need a while to fully commit..he looks over matched physically against the other big men, and this is just Summer League..

funny I'm watching the replay and the announcer said Antonio Anderson checked into the game but didn't say for which team, and I don't see him on the boxscore for either team..

    So the mystery continues ...

I was impressed at how Malik put the ball on the floor with defenders running at him. It showed that he is smart and won't fall in love with the 3 ball even when he is stroking it. I also liked that block he had on the perimeter.

Hill is looking more and more like a pg, and Blair showed some nice low post moves...the baby hook was n i c e.
