I think Scola didn't play because Adelman wanted to go small and see if he could run us out of the gym. They missed a lot of layups too. We're fortunate to come out with a win tonight.

This wasn't really that bad of a win..we should have won by more, but whatever..the D was dominant, we had control for the majority of the game..
Rockets shot 36% for the game. That third quarter must have just massacred that percentage.

Nice finish, the Spurs way. The defense was pretty good tonight. RJ had an off night, but even with that, they win against a determined Rockets team.
Really enjoy seeing the guys starting to get 'tough'. Hope George is ok.

I'm in Southern California, no clue if the channels are the same but it's on 659 here. Should be starting in a couple of minutes.

I don't have any post game, I've got the LP screen that says re-plays are starting, check guide for match-ups and times.

The defensive effort was the most impressive aspect of this game. And Houston played some hardnosed d of their own so that makes the win even more impressive. Why does Jefferson always look like a deer caught in the headlights at the end of tight games? Everytime he touched the ball at the end it looked a catastrophe waiting to happen. I hope those 2 ft's at the end will help his confidence.

Absolutely right. The D was excellent by lots of guys: Timmy, McDyess, Bogans, Hill, and Blair were standouts.

Offensively, Mason was very good except for a missed layup and bad turnover. Fortunately, the Spurs realized how much the Rockets were defending the perimeter and took the ball into the middle, drew fouls and hit some mid-range shots along the way.

Hill and Bogans are starting to fill the gaping hole left by Bowen against most teams.

You mean like he did throughout most of the 2003 finals?

Duncan, McDyess carry Spurs over Rockets
    By Chris Duncan

Tim Duncan and Antonio McDyess recorded double-doubles, Tony Parker had 19 points and seven assists, and the San Antonio Spurs earned their first road win of the season with a 92-84 victory over the Houston Rockets on Friday.

Duncan had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and McDyess added 15 points and 14 boards as the Spurs won for the first time in five games away from home.

Luis Scola had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Trevor Ariza added 17 points and a season-high 11 rebounds for Houston.

The Rockets were doomed by a 7 1/2 -minute scoring drought to start the third quarter and shot 36 percent from the field (33 of 92) for the game. Their point total was a season low.

Still, Houston had a chance to pull it out after Carl Landry grabbed an offensive rebound over Duncan to make it 86-84 with 40.5 seconds left.

Richard Jefferson sank two free throws to stretch the lead to 88-84. Aaron Brooks then missed a 20-footer at the other end, George Hill rebounded and was smacked in the face by Kyle Lowry on the way down.

Hill got up with a bloody nose, but made the resulting free throws with 28 seconds left. He left the court immediately after hitting the second shot, and the Spurs held on from there.

The Spurs went 26 of 34 from the free throw line and beat Houston for the 13th time in the last 19 meetings.

San Antonio missed 10 of its first 14 shots and Houston took the early lead. Ariza and Scola scored all 23 of the Rockets’ first-quarter points on 10-for-17 shooting—the rest of the team went 0-for-7.

Lowry was the third Rocket to score, sinking free throws with 11:06 left in the half to give Houston a 25-19 lead. The Spurs then mounted a quick 12-3 run with five reserves on the floor to take their first lead.

Brooks scored all seven of his first-half points in the last 90 seconds, driving for a layup just before the horn to put the Rockets ahead 46-44 at the break.

The Spurs opened the second half with a 14-0 run as Houston missed its first 16 shots out of halftime. Scola’s jumper from the foul line ended the Rockets’ drought with 4:37 left in the third quarter and cut the Spurs’ lead to 58-48.

The Rockets missed 20 of 24 shots and mustered only 12 points in the third quarter, a season low, to trail 68-58.

The Spurs coughed up six turnovers in the first eight minutes of the final quarter and the Rockets closed the gap to three. Duncan hit a running one-hander and a free throw to put the Spurs ahead 82-76.

Lowry lost the ball on Houston’s next possession and McDyess swished a jumper from the baseline with 1:45 left, prompting fans to head for the exits. Those fans missed the tense final moments, when the Spurs’ offense bogged down and the Rockets made one last rally.

NOTES: Rockets F Shane Battier did not score, ending his streak of games with a 3-pointer at 27. … Duncan recorded his seventh double-double of the season. … Ariza went 4 for 10 from the field in the first quarter, but finished 6-for-21. … Spurs G Manu Ginobili missed his fifth straight game with a strained groin. Coach Gregg Popovich said Ginobili may return for Sunday’s game against Philadelphia.

To beat the Rockets, all you have to do is pack the paint. Force the little guys to shoot from outside. If you force Brooks to shoot from outside and Ariza too, then the opposing teams win. IF there are nights that both Brooks and Ariza are hitting their shots, then the defenses have to come out. This is why, you need a bigger front line to slam the ball into the paint and just use size and athleticism to score.

Even the Rockets announcers conceded that we were the more aggressive team.

It's hard to win a lot of games if you shoot from the perimeter mostly and the other team shoots mostly from inside the paint. It's about pct basketball.

Actually, Scola was the only one making shots in the 3rd. I believe he got the first basket after the slump.

ducks, this may be true in general, but it wasn't the case for Scola. He didn't get in trouble with Adelman based on his play on the court. All he did was miss 3 shots in the 3rd and try to guard Tim Duncan. He did nothing wrong, otherwise.
