So I guess NE is gonna go with Welker and Gaffney as their No. 1 and No. 2 WRs next year? Good luck getting close to 50TDs with that, Tom.
Brady wont even get half of that. Welker is going to digress with no Moss there to make his life easier.
1. No guarantee Moss is gone. A deal could already be in place, but it can't be announced until FA signing starts.
2. He got within one Troy Brown wrong route of getting to the Super Bowl with Reche Caldwell & Gaffney. Welker is a serious upgrade over Caldwell.
3. Marty Booker is nothing special, but add him to Welker/Gaffney and that's at least as good as Brown/Branch/Givens. Brady didn't do too bad with those guys.
4. Look out for Chad Jackson.
Moss isnt settling for a cheap ass offer so Kraft better pay up. Unless we decide to let Samuel walk and draft a DB, there is no chances Pats keep both.
I say keep moss draft a DB. If they lose Moss, they become a 1-dimensional offense with lesser weapons in that specific strength of this O.
Moss was serious about being team player last year. It's definitely possible he'll do the same during contract negotiations.
And I don't think the Patriots are even talking to Asante Samuel anymore. He's gonna get paid stupid money, and I don't see them giving it to him anymore. Not after how ty he looked in all 3 playoff games. Aside from one INT that was more Chris Chambers' fault than anything, Asante was almost as bad as Hobbs.

Sean McCann, of The News Journal, reports Philadelphia Eagles DT Mike Patterson was arrested for marijuana possession early Saturday, Feb. 23, in Evesham Township, N.J. Police stopped him to investigate his car because of visible damage from a minor accident. The investigating officer smelled what appeared to be burning marijuana coming from the car and eventually discovered a small amount of marijuana, according to police. A police department release said Patterson had "under 50 grams," meaning they assumed he had no intent to sell. Patterson's brother, Tyrone, was with him and also arrested and charged. Mike Patterson has been charged with possession and Tyrone for resisting arrest.

The Chargers have agreed on a two-year deal with inside linebacker Derek Smith.
Terms of the deal are not known, but Smith definitely took less than the $4.5 million he was due to make in 2008 before the 49ers released him on Tuesday.
Smith, 33, has played 11 seasons and led the 49ers in tackles from 2001-05.
The Chargers acquired him for experienced depth behind Matt Wilhelm and Stephen Cooper.
Smith was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 1997 and played four seasons under Norv Turner, who was the head coach in Washington from 1994-2000.
Smith, a Utah native, played collegiately at Arizona State. He and his family make their offseason home in San Diego.

Negotiations between the team and Trufant have stalled and may not resume until New England Patriots CB Asante Samuel signs and establishes the market for cornerbacks. The Seahawks were hoping to sign Trufant to a multi-year deal so they could free up some of the money tied up due to the franchise tag on Trufant. Of all the WRs on the trade block, the Jags trade for Williamson?
U-G-L-Y.
told you he was overrated.
oh, and half of the picks he gets are WR's fault, as i recall several of them were due to dropped passes that got bobbled up high in the air.
Word on this guy is in three years with the Vikings, he has caught less than 80 passes, piled up around 1,080 yards or so, scored three touchdowns and has hands like Nazr.Jaguars | Team expected to acquire Williamson

Just what we needed.

Ehh, they traded a 6th for him, so it was pretty low risk. He has tremendous speed, and just look at who his qb's have been since he came in the league.
I wonder what it would take to get Matt Jones from Jacksonville? I'd love to have him on the Pats, especially if Moss is gone.
Not much I would imagine, he barely even played last year and was in Del Rio's doghouse all year. The guy seemingly has all of the tools required, just thinks he needs a change of scenery.
Pats expected to release Colvin
Email|Link|Comments (33) Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff February 26, 2008 02:19 PM
In a move that appears to be salary-cap related, the Patriots are expected to release outside linebacker Rosevelt Colvin today, according to a league source.
Colvin, a marquee free-agent signing in 2002, was scheduled to count $7.6 million against the salary cap and earn a base salary of $5.5 million. The 2008 season was the final year of his contract.
Colvin was a starter at outside linebacker in the Patriots’ 3-4 scheme. His 2007 season was cut short by a foot injury sustained Nov. 25 against the Eagles, and the Patriots seemed to miss his pass rush coming down the stretch.
The 31-year-old Colvin was credited by the team’s coaches with 28 tackles last season, while adding four sacks.
With Tedy Bruschi and Junior Seau scheduled for unrestricted free agency, the Patriots have the following personnel under contract at linebacker for 2008:
Eric Alexander (2008, exclusive rights free agent)
Larry Izzo (2008, verbal agreement confirmed by agent Drew Rosenhaus)
T.J. Slaughter (2008)
Pierre Woods (2008, exclusive rights free agent)
Mike Vrabel (2009)
Oscar Lua (2010)
Adalius Thomas (2011)

Panthers sign Muhammad to pair with Smith, scrap Carr

In their latest effort to secure a proven receiver to pair with Steve Smith, the Carolina Panthers have turned to a familiar face, reaching a contract agreement Wednesday with veteran free agent Muhsin Muhammad.
Also Tuesday, the Panthers released quarterback David Carr, who disappointed in his first season as a backup to Jake Delhomme.
Carr was let go a year after he signed a two-year, $6 million deal with the Panthers following a five-year stint as a starter in Houston. Carr struggled so badly when he took over for the injured Delhomme last season that he was eventually demoted to third-string.

Colts release LB Rob Morris, DL Booger McFarland
INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Linebacker Rob Morris and defensive tackle Anthony McFarland, both sidelined with injuries for most of last season, were released by the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday.
Morris, a first-round pick by the Colts in 2000 out of Brigham Young, hurt his left knee against Denver in Week 4 and was placed on injured reserve in October. The 33-year-old Morris played in just two games last season, finishing with 13 tackles. He sat out two games with an abdominal strain and then injured the knee against the Broncos in his first game back.
His base salary in 2007 was $900,000 and was due to rise to $1.2 million this year and $1.6 million in 2009.
McFarland, obtained in a trade from Tampa Bay in 2006, helped shore up the Colts’ run defense during their Super Bowl run but tore a knee tendon in training camp last summer and missed the entire season.
A first-round pick out of LSU in 1999, McFarland was paid $5.5 million last season and was due to receive $6.9 million in 2008.
------------------------------------------------------------
Some Colts fans might be put off by these cuts since McFarland and Morris were big in the Colts Super Bowl run, but I trust the Colts staff in determining whether or not they could contribute at that level in the future. McFarland obviously is old and the Colts are moving in a younger direction (they have the 2nd or 3rd youngest team in the NFL, not sure which exactly). Their young defensive starters were doubted by critics before last season and they silenced them from the get-go. I guess Polian will go with Ed Johnson to replace McFarland since he was probably the Colts most consistent defensive lineman last year, probably because he didn't get injured. But he was huge in his rookie season and if he stole McFarland's job, then good for him.
But the Colts definitely need to get some good pass rushers. If they could pass rush at near the level the NY Giants defensive line did in the playoffs this year, Peyton will retire with at least another ring. IMO that's the weak link in the Colts right now, offense proved they could score without Harrison, Wayne became Blue Jesus, Gonzo became a solid No. 2 guy when healthy. And the secondary is sick as with Hayden, Jackson, Sanders and Bethea. Dante Hughes will be a stud CB too.
