Kori, I thought static IP addresses where given out to companies not by location. Is there some IP directory that is available to the public? What about the IP address assigned to my router by Roadrunner, it is not aways the same.
You can get programs to look up anything you want to about someone if you really want to do so. Sometimes you can even see if someone is posting from Kinko's or whatever. I don't really use these type of things. I'm just saying that those two posters in question are with companies not even close to each other.

And yes, cable modem IP's change, but stay within a certain range normally.

You can generally just do a NSLookup on the ip to see what type of domain it comes from ... they generally will resolve to the ISP's net address, or atleast a domain owned by them that you can find very easily.

    Edit:

For example, my IP is 24.174.117.72; if I go into a command prompt and do "nslookup 24.174.117.72" I get:

    C:\Do ents and Settings\**********>nslookup 24.174.117.72
    Server: hou-dns-cac-04-dmfe0.houston.rr.com
    Address: 24.28.99.64
    Name: cs24174117-72.houston.rr.com
    Address: 24.174.117.72
Granted I'm on roadrunner, but if you have any you're wondering about they're pretty easy to do.

Right, about the range and cable modem but I figured that all of Roadrunner nationwide had access to the range of IP addresses. I just didnt know that you could actually pin point an IP address to a location.

You can spoof your location and your ip address. So none of that really matters. You can also proxy from a remote location. But this had better be a serious hobby if you're doing this just to have multiple screen names on a sports forum.

    "spoof ... your ip address"

Difficult to do over tcp, and way beyond the ability of 99.9% of Internet users.

    Updated Prediction:

Spurs still by 15 + despite hearing all the BS about heroic effort against them.
Time on SportsCenter 15 Seconds, Time for Lakers 3 minutes.

Yeah, you can also tell which IP's are spoofed and proxy through some not very complicated software.

But this had better be a serious hobby if you're doing this just to have multiple screen names on a sports forum.
Yeah, that's kind of my point ... people from other forums, etc who come here through proxy IP's just to post crap make me laugh.
