You're implying Bynum is much bigger than Oden, because Bynum's head is about 3/4 bigger than Oden's.

Remember, Snaq ed up his health by quickly putting on alot of weight...from the knees on down.

-max him out, what the do I care?
Is that comment for Bynum or Oden or both?

Oden went from around 250 when he was drafted to allegedly around 300 in less than a year.

AB doesnt have to average 20/15 like howard does. hes not the focal point of the offense. if he gets 12-15 boards and close to 3 blocks per game, the lakers will be very successful. He can get his buckets on lobs, pick and rolls, and off of offensive rebounds. AB at 12 boards, lamar at 9 and pau at 8 will give them 29 boards game in and game out. personally i dont think hes worth 88 mil rite now. But whos to say big men are worth a certain price these days?

if Bogut is worth 60 million, i think 78 for bynum is about right. hes under contract for 2.7 mil and 3.7 mil in 09-10 so his new contract would start after the 2010 season.

So how does this work? I am assuming that they are talking extensions at this point. So if the Lakers did not sign Bynum, the absolute worse that could happen is that he goes into free agency next year and become an unrestricted free agent, where if he had a great year, the Lakers can offer him a max contract, which I imagine wouldn't be too much more than $88 million for 5 years. In fact, if he played great, the Lakers could offer him am longer contract and lock him up for one (or two?) extra years.

If Bynum couldn't stay healthy, or if last season proved to be a fluke, his value will drop significantly, and the Lakers would sign him for much less.

So signing him for $88 million right now makes little sense, with little upside and much more downside, as well as taking on more risk.

Frankly speaking, spending $78 million on him is a little on the risky side. But as a Spurs fan, yeah, sign him for $88M.

    its the ben gordon situation.

the lakers can lock him up for essentially 6 years after this year if they sign him to a 5 year extension. if the lakers dont sign him to an extension, then andrew can become a restricted free agent after this season. the lakers would be able to match any contract offers AB gets next summer. worst case senario for andrew is he doesnt get an extension, gets injured this year again, and no one offers more than the 3.7 mil he can make by play for the qualifying offer next year.

bottom line, hes a risk but the lakers want to lock him up for 6 years.

So wait a minute.....Bynum is going to have to be worried about Oden now? A guy who has played ZERO NBA Games? Give me a ing break.

If you're going to talk about Laker fans over-hyping Bynum, then stop over-hyping a guy who has played ZERO NBA GAMES.

Bynum is about the SAME weight as he was last year. Only difference is his improved muscle mass and lower body fat%. , Bynum was close to 300 pounds of mostly FAT coming out of highschool so he has actually lost weight since he came into the league. Bynum doesn't need to acclimated to his weight like Oden, who put on 30-40 pounds he never had before his knee surgery.

And Shaq example is stupid. He was ripped in his first couple years and put on tons of fat when he from like 290 --> 350+. Poor work ethic and not giving a was Shaq's problem. Bynum is the complete opposite in that regard.

Portland fans are going to be crying when A-Bomb dumps all over Oden opening night.
