James Gist !!!!
I was going to say the exact same thing
James Gist !!!!
So does Pops becomes a legend like James White(!) now?
No , he did more in two appearances than Udoka's done in almost 2 years....
The more I think about it the more I am convinced that the Spurs signed him when they did to make sure he could not be on another team's play-off roster.
this is a big mistake. incredibly frustrating
+1
It amazes me the Spurs fans don't see....why the Spurs are signing Drew Gooden a proven NBA starter over a guy who just came from the D-League.
Pops may develop and become a better player...but the Spurs are trying to win a championship and they saw they needed more size on the frontline.
They didn't have to trade anyone to get him (even though the Camby deal was in the works before the trade deadline) and he's a legit 6"10...not 6"8 like Pops.
They don't have to go over the luxury tax either. I wish Pops well...but this was a no-brainer!!!

Oh Pops, thou shalt be missed
Damn. Oh well. I loved what he brought to this team but maybe Pop and the coaching staff thought he was still a little too raw, maybe just a little more development and he'll be good to go.
I'd love to see Hairston, Mahinmi, Gist, and Pops come in to training camp next yr all together though. It would be great for the young guns to battle it out for some spots.
Possible, but it's not like the Spurs knew they would be getting Drew Gooden.
That ing sucks, I see a whole lot of potential in that kid!! Popovic never gives young guys a chance?...What the is wrong with him? With him being waived, that means he doesn't go straight back to the Toros either...So most likely he will end up with one of our rivals showing what he is really worth?.... !!!!!![]()
Pops is still playoffs eligible.
The march 1st deadline is for players that are waived and go through waivers.
Pops was on a 10 days contract and you don't go on waivers when you are released in the middle of a 10 days contract.
Brunowned![]()
Y'Know, I kinda wanted him back next year, but with all the wet pant fan boys and girls mourning him like we lost Dwight Howard or something, I don't care if I ever see PMB in a Spurs uni again, if for no other reason than the ridiculous over-rating that goes on in this forum for a player who can dunk, and little else.
Proving that you don't know . He was Toros property when he got called up by the Spurs, and that's exactly where he goes back to, moron.
Oh, and George Hill has played rotation minutes all year, and Hairston does when there's an injury, and there's always an injury. So much for Pop not giving young guys a chance, Drama Queen.

Except LJ was kidding, and you're not.
Yes I was
McDonald chimes in.
Spurs release Mensah-Bonsu, clear room for Gooden
By Jeff McDonald
The Spurs waved goodbye to forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu this afternoon, releasing him from the remainder of his 10-day contract. That should set the stage for their next pending roster move: Welcoming Drew Gooden.
Gooden, the free-agent power forward recently bought out in Sacramento following his trade there, is expected to sign with the Spurs before the end of the week. The release of Mensah-Bonsu, needed to clear roster space for the Spurs' upcoming new addition, appears to signal that Gooden will arrive sooner rather than later.
It could happen as early as today, since Gooden has cleared waivers.
Mesah-Bonsu, who arrived as a heralded You Tube sensation, appeared in three games with the Spurs, averaging five points and 3.3 rebounds in 6.7 minute and wowed fans with a highlight-reel of athletic dunks. Mensah-Bonsu became expendable earlier this week, however, with the imminent landing of Gooden.
why is there a stereotype that pop hates dunkers?
If Gist/Pops/Ian all show they belong the Spurs will instantly become way more athletic, but with Drew and/or Sheed coming, and only Fab leaving... wait, Ian already has a spot. but if Sheed/Drew make it, I doubt Pops will. Timmy/Bonner/Sheed(or Drew)/Ian/KT are enough, even for me, and I'm a big advocator of NEVER seeing small ball in 2009-2010.
If Drew sticks or Sheed comes over, that'll make it 2 bigs with a post game, plus a jack rabbit in Ian. KT will just be the bruiser with a sweet jay, and maybe Bonner will get closer to being Bonner-lite. He's already better than 08, but I can't remember how well he was in 07, then again, I've never seen Bonner play in a meaningful PO game.
I can see the Lakers picking this kid up
I don't care what any of you mofos say. I liked Pops and I hope he becomes a Spur in the future, somehow. It wasn't just the dunks. He had presence out there on the court. If anything, he could have been a wild card at the end of the bench when Lamar Odom is wearing our ass out in the conference finals.
The comparisons to Dennis Rodman are not that farfetched, imo. When Rodman was with the Bad Boys, Daly would throw him out there when he didn't like the energy by his team. Rodman wasn't exactly a B-Ball mensa either, especially in his first few years.
Picking up Gooden was the right choice but does he really make us better? I hope so. I can't believe the guy averages 13 and 8. Those stats better translate to San Antonio.
Anyway, good luck, Pops.
Shut the up ...Then why when we waived Blake Ahearn, he went elsewhere?...Looks like your dumb-ass is the one who don't know . And Hairston gets minutes at the end of games when we are up by 20, George Hill has to get minutes for the lack of point guards we have...![]()
He went back to Dakota because that was the D-League team he played for before he was signed by the Spurs.
If Pops goes back to the D-League, he will be on the Toros unless he is renounced or traded by them.
