Olympiacos and Bourousis' agent have had a second meeting. Olympiacos has made a better offer but Bourousis wants more money. There should have a third meeting soon.

Do you have any real first-hand knowledge about Bourosis, and how he is likely to fare in the NBA? I admit that mine is entirely from reading about him, and that has its limitations.
I read comments from some legitimate (not fake) Greek fans, expressing their doubts about whether he is mobile/agile enough to defend the top-tier NBA big men. They also indicate that he's not going to run the floor a whole lot either. That part isn't the end of the world, especially for the Spurs - but the defensive part is a very big deal. Is he going to be able to do a reasonable job of staying in front of guys like Dwight Howard or Amare Stoudamire? Do you think he would be able to understand the Spurs defensive system quickly enough to be a factor in the first year?
I know that people say he can drop out and shoot the 3, and he can shoot mid-range jumpers, but I haven't been overwhelmed with the success of teams that have tried putting their big man on the perimeter. It's nice to use a shooting big to force teams to leave the paint a little, but not at the expense of an inside game. Is he going to shy away from banging and picking up points around the rim? I would love to see a young Arvydis Sabonis playing for the Spurs. Not so much a young Rasho Nesterovic.
The seeming good news is that he was put on the All-Euro first team ahead of Tiago Splitter. Do you have a feel for what factors were responsible for him being selected over splitter? (Is the success of the team a big factor in selection?)
It's all just curiosity at this point, but if you have any insight I'd love to hear it.

Olympiacos first offer was €1.5M/year, their second offer was €1.7M/years. Bourousis wants €2M/year. Spurs offer is rumored to be at €2M/year.
With the Euro/dollar conversion rate and the taxes, Spurs rumored offer should be about $4M/year.

I watched him play some Euroleague games. He is a very good player at the European level so the question about the NBA transition is the main one.
IMO, Bourousis can succeed in NBA if he signs with the right team. Spurs (slow paced, plays fundamental BB and has a lot of international experience) seems to be the right fit.
Even if he isn't a big stiff, players like Amare Stoudamire are obviously too quick for him. His lack of mobility is a problem, especially if he plays a lot alongside Duncan who isn't the most mobile big in the league.
He can be a good defender in the Rasho mold. IMO, he is more mobile than Rasho.
The idea that Bourousis is a jump shooting big is quite false. His offensive game is quite complete.
FYI, he took 176 shoots in Euroleague this year and only 27 were 3's (with a significantly shorter 3 point line). He was 4th in free throw attempted per minute and got to the free throw line at the same rate than a player like Splitter.
He is a big with a good but not great jump shoot. Having a good jump shoot is a big plus for a big playing alongside Duncan.
Team success is a big reason why he was ahead of Splitter.
Splitter hasn't also had a that great season. He missed some games due to injuries and wasn't as good as last year when he played. In Euroleague, Splitter did most of his damage early in the compe ion when games weren't really important.
With the economical crisis in Europe, the market for players paid €2M is very thin. At best 4 teams (Panathinaikos, Olympiacos and maybe Barcelona, Real Madrid) can offer contracts that big.

It isn't easy for Bourousis' agent to have some kind of leverage to get the few extra €100K he wants. Using the NBA as leverage is a good strategy to negotiate his new contract.
I know, that is what we have been saying. He clearly has absolutely 0 interest in playing in the NBA or else he would not be trying to beg Olympiacos to match the Spurs offer (if there is one).
Great strategy from his part, but so easy to see that he wants nothing to do with the Spurs.
The spurs at this point need to lower their offer to 1mil. euro and say "screw you Boars arse" and let olympiacos lower their offer as well..This is getting old

I wouldn't expect him to be quick enough to handle a steady diet of Amare on his own. If he's more mobile than Rasho, that's probably good enough. Especially if he plays smart.
The FTA/Minute stat is, in my opinion, of major importance for the Spurs. If opponents respect him enough to foul him, it's going to take some of the heat off of Duncan.
And I agree that having a dependable jump shot is a big plus, so long as he's not shooting jumpers because he's timid around the basket. We need a big who can take the ball to the rim and finish.
There just aren't very many solid big men out there, and I guess I've just grown skeptical when any team lets a big get away from them. (I remember a lot of pre-season articles that said Jackie Butler was the .best pickup of the off-season, a couple of years ago.) It sounds like there is good cause to hope the contract negotiations work out. I'd like to think that he would come here because he really, really wants to compete at the NBA level - but money is nice, too. But it sounds like you don't think he wants to be here at all. If he doesn't, I hope he stays home, because he won't be any good to us.
Olympiacos team reporter reports NO DEAL between Olympiacos and Bourousis and Spurs are still the most likely destination.
