The world was, is, and will always be black and white.
Damn stretch, what's up with that?

turiaf there's a bunch of middle-aged men on this forum who love to relive their middle-school days. that's all you really need to know about what's going on in this thread... a bunch of sucking middle-aged s who think they're dane cook funny when in reality dane cook in' sucks!
i salute you turiaf even though i don't support the war. i can understand your stance though as some of my family are veterans and respect should be given regardless!
the suckers in this thread like LL.

btw, hope that ex-nba player comes back safe.
There are obviously some stupid people in the military, and obviously some intelligent people. Signing up for the military does not mean you want "kill Muslims". You may have any other number of goals in mind, of course, just like signing up to work on McDonalds does not mean you love to slaughter animals or signing up to work at Target means you love exploiting children in sweatshops.
I enjoy serving due to being a patriot yes, but I'm not an idiot. We also get relatively good pay, job security, a chance to travel, training opportunities, education, free health care, and 30 days of paid vacation per year. Nothing stupid about that.
The military allows those who DO come from a poor/middle class background a chance at bettering themselves socially, economically, physically and mentally.
My view on this:
I agree with Lakaluva 100% that this war is bogus horse that should have never been started.
At the same time, you cannot criticize someone for going to serve his country. It's distasteful, and you're playing right into Bush's game. Being against a war doesn't mean you're against the troops, George Bush has said countless times anyone who opposes the war is dishonoring the troops, and he did that to scare people into thinking that opposing a war makes you unpatriotic.

+1. I'll also add that I can respect a pro-war person that puts their money where their mouth is and goes and fights. What I can't stand is chickenhawk cowards, the able-bodied that are eligible to serve and voice support for the war, yet can't find their way to a recruiting office.
Truth, people my age who support the war need to put up or shut up.
There's a huge difference between supporting a war, and supporting a war as long as they're sending poor, inner city 18 year olds to go fight to do you're too chicken to do.
For the first time I actually see some intelligence in your post.
The guy probably ran out of options (just like the poor do) and decided to join military.
I never said otherwise. Just to re-clarify, my only disagreement with your views on Iraq is that you're calling someone a "dumbass" for fighting in a war for his country. Everything else, politics wise, I agree on.
Lakaluva, once again, showing he's a fool in this thread.
Turiaf just showing that he's a typical military , trying to meet up and fight just because someone says something you don't agree with on a messageboard. You remind me of the recruiters that wouldn't leave me the alone for 2 years after i was already enrolled in a university and said a thousand times to off. One of them even got all pissy and wanted to meet up, just like you. I'm sorry to say, although a little extreme, Lakaluva is right on a lot of points. It IS a bogus, unwinnable war, and our troops are just mindless brainwashed pawns that the government doesn't give a about. I'm all for America but we currently have a bunch of idiots running the country from the inside out.
What are we even fighting for? Democracy in a country who's citizens don't want democracy and even more-so than that hate Americans and don't want us there? Is that the bull they're feeding these days? *Cough oil reserves cough* I wouldn't even consider supporting any of this blasphemy and brutality. The day Russia, North Korea, or some other country declares war against us in a LEGIT war is the day I'll join up and be more than willing to risk my life and fight.
Agreed on all except the needless comment they're "mindless pawns". They are humans, just like you and I, the only difference between most of them and me is that I was dealt a better hand when I was born......which is why I want us out of that country ASAP so they don't have to risk their lives when all they're trying to do is get into college.
I have friends in the military..I've seen the personality changes over the course of their time in the service..they all have that same pompous, arrogant, baggedness to them. In the military they brainwash people. My friend who just got back from Iraq told me straight up that they're feeding us bull and WMD's are NOT the reason we're in Iraq. These guys really become brainwashed until they truly believe that the war is justifiable and what they're doing is really right. But you're right they're human, and I feel bad that they have to be in the situation they're in, risking their lives for 30k a year and a pat on the back from Uncle Sam without making a real difference in the world. If I'm going to take another person's life, it better be for a damn good reason.
ultimately, if he didn't choose to join, he may be somewhere in his life, financially, and/or educationally, that he wouldn't want to be in. and guess what? the U.S. would still be in Iraq.
but he joined and he's bettered his situation - and we're still in Iraq.
whether he fights or he doesn't, we're still in Iraq. however, his decision obviously affects, or has affected, his fincancial and educational situation in a positive way.
he made a practical deicison, yet the idiots in here are calling him an idiot?
the idiot role needs to be reversed.

after reading further into this thread, just have to comment on how f'ing re ed it is for someone with the level of intelligence of Lakaluva to be calling people re ed/dumb/stupid, etc., esp. when he's perfectly demonstrating his idiocy in his own argument.
you're the one who couldn't even understand a simple implication i was making a week ago or so in a thread, which everyone else seemed to get, and now you're not even answering my response to why i think it's stupid to call Turiaf stupid, and you're calling ME a dummy?![]()
you also couldn't find out the answer to a simple mathemtical question that my sister, who's fifteen, could answer easily. you're the moron. quit kidding yourself.
Riiiight.
They're all brainwashed, except his one friend that told him what he wanted to hear.![]()
Military or army infantry? There's a slight difference...
Also, you have to think of it this way. Commanders are, of course, going to highlight the positives of their mission, in order to better increase morale. It makes sense that many troops will take the positives from their time there, and eventually begin to believe that they are able to win the war. Really, a platoon/squadron/etc would be MUCH less effective if A) they weren't convinced they were 'fighting the good fight' and B) they could positively affect change.
Now, if you want to call that brainwashing, feel free. That's what good leaders tend to do though. They share a vision, and get people to 'buy in' to it. They get people motivated to accomplish the goal laid out for them.
