There's a difference between subjective preference for and the actual quality of something. Thus, there's room for objective analysis. I can say I like McD's cheeseburgers more than kobe beef burgers from Ruth's Chris, but I'd be wrong to say they're better.
Sure, people are en led to their preference of BEP, but that doesn't mean BEP is better than Outkast. In other words: Some people are under-served by their tastebuds.
As far as coke v. pepsi specifically- as a believer in Malcolm Gladwell, I believe our preference is formed by far different processes than what we think they actually taste like, respectively. The same probably goes for music.
