There's a difference between subjective preference for and the actual quality of something. Thus, there's room for objective analysis. I can say I like McD's cheeseburgers more than kobe beef burgers from Ruth's Chris, but I'd be wrong to say they're better.

Sure, people are en led to their preference of BEP, but that doesn't mean BEP is better than Outkast. In other words: Some people are under-served by their tastebuds.

As far as coke v. pepsi specifically- as a believer in Malcolm Gladwell, I believe our preference is formed by far different processes than what we think they actually taste like, respectively. The same probably goes for music.

By saying they're "better" either way you just made a claim on your personal preference, your opinion. Because you believe it to be true does not make it true for everyone else. There is absolutely no way to quantify anything as subjective as "better" because it's purely personal preference. To some individuals it's completely possible and legitimate for a McDonalds McDouble to be "better" than a Kobe beef patty. Maybe they don't like the extra marbling of the Kobe beef, whatever, the point is it's all personal preference.

Of course the things that decide personal preference aren't all internal, so many things such as marketing and other external factors (like radio exposure) decide what someone may feel is "better". People are extremely impressionable by nature and most people have such a weak sense of reality that they look to others around them for cues on how to act, what to like, etc. It's the phenomonon that allows Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers to make even a cent.

It's funny you say that, because I almost did too.

And good point. I guess you could sub out the word 'better' for something like 'higher quality'.
