    This thread is dumb.
I'll be much happier with Tony if he would at least take pride on his defense. I don't know if his lack of focus and effort on defense has anything to do with nursing that ankle injury, but if that's the case, then he needs to sit down until he's fully healed. (And BTW, same goes for Manu and his hamstring).

I cant really fault TP for the defense. He works too hard on offense to begin with, and you have to react to your defenders movements which is alot more work on body.

I think Parker is hurt/tired from carrying load last season, and playing for NT. Thats why RJ and GHill are a breath of fresh air, and play with alot of energy. TP is just not into an early November game. Not that thats right.

I can. If we are to be one of the top defensive teams in the league, and we know for a fact the players have talked about being just that when the season started, you simply cannot have those holes in the perimeter.
We have enough offense on this team. We can't get enough defense.

In that case he should be benched on B2B's so he can have a good amount of energy to devote to a game. The west is tough and getting in a big hole early is unacceptble this season. Benching Parker on a B2B gives him rest and more shots for RJ/Hill.

Nope, cant stand him as a PG. Love him as a scorer. Just not in SA cause a scoring guard is not what we need right now, As evidenced in Thunder game and many games through out his career. I told you guys already, Im not a TP hater, i give him his due credit. He is the most consistent player on the team. He has been for a few seasons now. However his constant dribbling and 1 on 1 is going to hurt our $90 million team more than any other time before. He cant bring us a championship as a scoring guard, especially if the solid pieces are on the team. In 2001 AI took his team to the finals but he had no solid pieces to beat a bigtime laker team. We have the pieces but there no good if there not used to 75% of there potential.
    Harsh.

TP has been a dynamic scoring point guard throughout his career but he defenitely has looked fatigued and lacking his usual explosiveness from the very start of the season. His shots aren't falling with the regularity were accustomed to, he's been prone to turnovers, and his defense is awful. This could be due to playing over the summer, or rolling his ankle recently, who knows. Could be a little stiffness setting in from all the years of pounding his body has taken already.

Bottom line here is when he is not efficient offensively he has no way to make up for it. He seldom assists his teammates in scoring opportunities and he's not contributing anything on defense.

I know alot of people on this forum love him, but the stark truth of the matter is the spurs played better not only last year, but now AGAIN this year when George Hill stepped in as the starter. When he was in there it seemed like everyone got involved in the offense more instead of standing around waiting for Parker to go 1 on 5.

So what to make of this? A trade for a big man and wing might not be a bad idea right now. I've mentioned this trade before and I'll say it again.

    Biedrins/Jackson/Law

    for

    Parker/Bonner/Finley

It works for both teams, it gives the spurs a good defensive interior presence in Biedrins who can start and still allow McDyess to come off the bench plus a lockdown defender at the wing and it gives GS salary cap relief. Jackson is a great ball handler/passer so he'll help make up the loss of a point guard. Acie Law is there too just in case ala Jacque Vaughn type role.

Caveat: The year the warriors upset the mavericks in the 1st round of playoffs (2006 i believe), Jackson was an integral part of that as was Biedrins who was inserted into the starting lineup in the 3rd game and the warriors went on to beat them. So if nothing else it proves a team with Biedrins as a starting center can beat a very talented mavericks squad.

Parker never has been GREAT defensively, Defense starts on the Inside. If their is no one protecting the rim then everytime a wing defender gets beat its a gauranteed bucket. If the spurs establish paint defense, then their wings can body up and force them to the baseline like back in the old days(meaning 2 seasons ago). You force someone to the baseline today then your gonna have Matt Bonner getting posterized. A wing defenders defense is only as good as the help. Artest can play aggresive cause he has Bynum/Gasol behind him. Dantay Jones could play agressive cause of Nene/Birdman. We cant cause no one is guarding the paint.

I like biedrins/Jackson too, but SJax will never be allowed back in SA(spurs have a no knucklehead rule) Biedrins numbers are bloated cause he plays with 4 guards. So with Tim he wouldnt have a big enough impact for the FO to swallow his $9million a year contract. Oh and the last one spurs wont trade Parker. Why break up a family? Husband - Pop / Wife - Finley Son - Parker(Pop practically put him on the map)

I don't disagree that our interior D has been weak too. I've been waving that flag since pretty much last season, and especially this season seeing that TD needs serious help. Playing tons of small ball with TD being the sole big doesn't help.
However, as you explain, our defensive system actually starts on the perimeter, by having guards prevent penetration from the middle and instead funneling players towards the baseline, where it's easier for shot blockers like Tim.
Parker has been a great defender. Maybe not the greatest, but he has played against top PGs in the league and defended them well. At the very least, he simply has not been as terrible as he has been this season.
There could be many reasons for that: Lack of focus being that it's november, nursing injury, being spent... whatever it is, needs to be addressed.

aside from trading michael Finley which weill never happen (cause he too old).... TP is the most trade worthy player i think u can get good return for him.....I think you can still win a championship without a great point guard all u need is a descent one that can pass and shoot well when open...... Now this is not to say we should trade the guy just saying we could live without him... Maybe trade him for a big guy.....

Fail. Even if the Spurs did trade him, he would return because he will fail the physical anyway.

Yeah and he sure did alot in winning time didnt he. Like trying to get the offense on track by getting others involved. But wait, he had 22 and 6 in the first half he doesnt need to give up the ball then does he? Blair/Hill/RJ all seem to get better shots and opportunities when Manu handles the rock.
