Man, US Soccer has come so far in the past 16 years.

If you look at the 2002 squad and how many players were playing overseas it was maybe a third of the team and our best players were our goal keepers.

Now, you have guys who have made huge marks on in the best leagues such as Donovan and Dempsey and most of the team plays overseas. The future is bright.
hmm not that I disagree US soccer has come a long way in the last few years but where exactly has Donovan made huge marks other than the MLS?

He played half season on an English team and he was key to save them to going down tot he B division... he was the game changer

MLS players have call out clauses on their contracts when they get chances to play in Europe...

I guess you could call that a mark. I've always thought Donovan as way overrated though. Dempsey I can see, Donovan not so much.

Any concern from the frenchy's over a 1-0 loss to china today? I didn't watch the game - only kept up with live stats online.

I have loved Donovan since he was interviewed in Spanish by ESPN deportes with a perfect Argentinean accent... asked about why he speaks Spanish so well he said something like this: "In order for me to become a great soccer player I knew i had to be able to communicate on the court with the ones that play it best..."

I've heard Donovan speak spanish. His accent is nowhere near an Argentinean accent. What interview was this?

Donovan tore it up for Everton. He'd continue to do so but the Galaxy want him to come back and aren't willing to listen otherwise. I know its not huge in the sense that overall the soccer world doesn't care too much but I promise you Everton felt what he did for them.

Dempsy have obviously had more Premier league success but I think had Donovan had the same playing time over there that Dempsy has had then I think he would have done even more.

I love Dempsy, but for me the face of US Soccer is and will be for quite some time Landon Donovan.

Hold up... He played great for them while he was there, but they were never in danger of being relegated.

His time there also coincided with several other key players returning from injury too. Not trying to diminish his performance over there, just saying he didn't keep them from going down.

It wouldn't surprise me if both Uruguay and Mexico advance. France has basically Ribery and a Henry getting up there in age.

This is not Zidane's team anymore

So who's going to replace him alongside Terry? King (has bad knees, hasn't he)? Carragher would be a good option, I guess.

Slovenia beat New Zealand 3-1 at home in their only friendly before South Africa. The win against the mighty NZ squad is clearly a sign we'll be dominating at the world cup. It's between us and Brasil.
