He's still got about 12-13 more years to go before his career is done and you could argue is a Top 10 player in Today's NBA.
The same was said about Shawn Kemp.

Oden was the overwhelming choice for #1 that year. No question.
By the same team that passed on Dr. J, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan. Different year, different era, different GM, same result it appears to be.

But you hold on to the fact that you still think you were right. I was one of the people who knew not to pick Oden.

Again, and I'm make this easier to read: ODEN HAS ONE LEG LONGER THAN THE OTHER. Why would a GM be dumb enough to pick a big man as your franchise center when he has that problem and you have one of the best scoring guards in years available to you with franchise talent.

How great would the Blazers be with Roy, Durant and Aldridge as their core?

Injuries, baby's mommas and food took down Kemp. Durant seems a bit more level headed than Kemp though. And at the time Kemp was an all world talent comparable to Amare in today's NBA.

Again, Durant is hardly a Longhorn. He went for 1 year, bolted and has no intention of graduating from the University of Texas. McCoy was a 4 year player for the Longhorns. He's a Longhorn through and through. Play for the school at least 3 years and you can be called a Longhorn. 1 and done just doesn't cut it in my book.

Having said all of that, you can't deny the Durant is a talent on the court. Although the trolls are trying to put words in my mouth by saying he's Top 10 (I said perhaps Top 25 when all is said and done, not definitely Top 25), I will say that you can't argue what a great player he is NOW at age 21. He's still got about 12-13 more years to go before his career is done and you could argue is a Top 10 player in Today's NBA.
That's not true. Has gone back the last three summer, taking classes while playing basketball. It may take him a while, but he'll graduate. Dude may have played one year but he rocks the burnt orange harder than any player I've seen come through there. It's kind of hard to knock him for leaving and saying he's not a Longhorn is ing re ed.

You're one of the few, dumbass. You're just flat out ing wrong if you think that it was anywhere close to 50/50 on Oden or Durant at the time.

Oden projected to be the #1 pick

    Greg Oden rated #1 prospect

Greg Oden projected to be the #1 pick

    http://www.nbadraft.net/mocks/2007_nba_mock_draft.html

    Oden projected as #1 pick

    http://www.nba.com/draft2007/board/mock.html

Greg Oden projected as the #1 pick by 19 out of 20 mock drafts.

Almost everybody at the time was going to take Oden over Durant.
That's what makes Nathan Explosion so smart. He obviously has a great basketball mind.

I doubt he really means "he was hardly a longhorn". By saying Durant was barely a longhorn he's hoping that it will lead to people thinking his Durant knob slobbing has nothing to do with him being a Longhorn fan (even though it obviously does).

"Colt McCoy, the former Texas star who won more games than any other quarterback in Division I history, began his pro career midway through the second quarter after Wallace finished two of his three drives with touchdown passes.
McCoy’s night ended like his last appearance for Texas, a trip to the locker room for tests.
This time, he banged his hand on the back of a teammate’s helmet following through on a pass. The third-round pick was knocked out of the BCS championship game against Alabama with a pinched nerve in his throwing arm.
McCoy finished 5 of 10 for 25 yards with two interceptions against the Packers. He added 25 yards scrambling from trouble."

Steve Kerr on Kevin Durant (on the BS Report podcast): "In 3 years Durant could be THE guy."

This was in response to a question by Simmons asking if Durant could be the best player in basketball in 3 years, or as Simmons called it, THE guy.

Oh, and Durant was hardly a Longhorn. While the following players weren't the player Durant was, they definitely go down as being Horns unlike Durant: Aldridge, Augustin and Abrams to name 3 recent players. All of those guys spend more time at UT than Durant.

And if I was such a Horn homer, wouldn't I be praising McCoy as the next great thing?

tbh its not unfathomable to think Nathan Explosion wanted Durant, but its re ed if he thinks other people didnt want Oden over Durant.
After going back and reading articles and columns, the thinking was big man over swing man. BUT, the thinking was that Oden could be a force in the paint for years, completely ignoring what had come out during the workouts, that Oden HAD ONE LEG LONGER THAN THE OTHER.

Have you seen people who have this condition? I work with one. He has to have special shoes and still walks in an odd sort of manner. Oden walks the same way from what I've seen. The athlete's body is a fine tuned machine. Nothing can be off or it throws the whole system out of whack. It's like playing with a foot injury. Sure, you may be able to tolerate the pain, but the body overcompensates by placing more stress on other parts of the body.

I don't claim to be smarter than most NBA GMs out there (I do bet I could do a better job than the Grizzlies man. I mean, Pau Gasol anyone?), but sometimes these guys outsmart themselves. 9 times out of 10, you take the big man. I get that. You win les with a big man. Name me a non-Jordan team that won without a big man.

But the 10th, it could be Bowie over Jordan, or it could be a big man who has a physical condition that throws his entire body out of whack, like having one leg longer than the other that affects his stride. And when you spend a lot of time running, planting and jumping, having a stride that's off is a BIG red flag. Any GM should have seen that and immediately had alarms going off. But they ignored the alarms and tried to do the simple thing which wasn't so simple because of the physical condition. They outsmarted themselves.

Not only that, but the main comparison I remember people making was Oden to Ewing. Ewing was a dominant college center, but was overrated as a pro. Then some were saying he rebounded like Russell. Really? He was an athlete like some hadn't seen, quick, strong and agile. Not unlike DRob, Hakeem or even Dwight Howard to name some recent players. That he was the best big man prospect to come out since Duncan. Again, I mentioned Dwight Howard in there whom everyone said the same thing. Except, Howard IS a perfect physical specimen.

Disagree...Durant has said on several occasions that no matter where he goes, he'll always be a Longhorn...even while in Oklahoma City...and I'm sure we'll claim him.

what the does this have to do with the fact Oden was the near consensus #1 pick in 2007?

OK, so you admit nearly all mock drafts/analysts/GMs had Oden going over Durant.

    Thanks for playing.

In fairness to 90210, of all the UT nuthuggers on this site, I think the amount of them that actually went to UT can be counted on one hand.
