And ya I know, Barnes is from LA & went to UCLA .. really wasn't a big factor in his decision though.
Miami and the Lakers were the final two teams that it came down to. I had a chance to speak with Pat Riley and I had a chance to speak with Kobe and Mitch Kupchak. They were both offering the same (money)... both great teams... but the Lakers are a proven winning team (going for three in a row). And it came down to me being born and raised in California. Getting a chance to go to UCLA was a dream come true... and another dream of mine was to play for the Lakers. It came down to those two teams and I try to stay on the West Coast.

Matt Bonner's tougher than people give him credit for. People around here forget he made Kevin Garnett his when he was in Toronto against Minnesota.

    LOL Bargnani, getting posterized.

    Mad ball handling skills.

LOL Shaq get that out of here.

So they would have been restricted to 4yr/10m. Still trumps the laker deal.

Nice try. You pretend to know what motivated Barnes, but it remains pure speculation on your part. The contract with the Lakers is actually for two years, with the second year at Barnes' option. As you have guessed, Barnes wanted a much richer contract and thought he had one from Toronto (2yrs/10M). Unfortunately, Toronto is incredibly incompetent and didn't have the ability under the CBA to make such an offer.

So Barnes went to the Lakers and signed a contract that gives him an out after one year. If he has a good season, he'll likely opt out and take one more shot a richer deal.

In the end, you have absolutely nothing to support the notion that Barnes was there for the taking. It was really funny that you thought that the Spurs could have taken the money used for Bonner's contract and spent it on a free agent. Thanks for the laugh.

Is that why he was all set to sign w/ Toronto huh? Because Canada is just so much like the west coast up there, huh?

We should just start keeping track of TJastal's Lie(s) o' the Day.

Lie #1: The Spurs could have offered Matt Barnes the same money they gave to Bonner.

Lie #2: Playing professional basketball in his hometown was not a motivating factor in Barnes' decision to sign with the Lakers.

Hey I never claimed to be a salary cap expert, I'm just a fan. And it's not a secret what motivated Barnes, he wanted a longer term deal and a solid role on a contender.

He has signed with east coast teams before.

Now you are going to deny your own words as well as direct quotes from Matt Barnes himself. You are now claiming to know Matt Barnes better than Matt Barnes knows Matt Barnes. You need to realize just how stupid you are acting.

So don't pretend you know what players can be signed for. It will keep you from being caught lying over and over again.

And it's not a secret what motivated Barnes, he wanted a longer term deal and a solid role on a contender.
It's not a secret, especially when he comes right out and says it in an interview. But you know Matt Barnes better than Matt Barnes knows Matt Barnes. You said so.

    And lol @ Toronto's being a contender. That's lie #3 today.

I wasn't pretending anything. I overlooked a salary cap issue, which Mel_13 corrected me on. Apparently this is "pretending" rofl

I already told you he wanted long-term $$$$$ first, playing for a contender was a secondary concern. Can you comprehend this?

You admitted your ignorance on salary matters you pretended you knew.

    Thanks.

Why did he decide on the Lakers instead of the Heat?
