So let me get this straight. Rick Carlisle coached his team to an NBA championship last year. During a summer full of celebrations and uncertainty about the lockout, he learns that the Spurs are considering Gary Neal as a backup pg. Now, in this summer full of going on, this might be maybe the 403rd most pertinent news item for Rick Carlisle to concentrate on.
Rumors of the season being lost begin. Negotiations are going bad, it looks like we are having no season.
Then the season abruptly does begin and the Mavericks celebrate their championship. A highly emotional moment where the players and Carlisle reach the pinnacle of their careers. Then the Mavericks start off playing very poorly and Dirk in particular looks awful. Carlisle has got a lot of work to do to get them back on track.
Fastforward to Sunday's game and the Mavs take what seems like an insurmountable lead. The Mavs then proceed to nearly blow it all against the Spurs bench. In a highly emotional finish, the Mavs squeak by the Spurs, one of their most bitter rivals for the last decade. Lots to talk about, lots to analyze for the coaching staff.
TJastal, you're telling me and everyone on this board, that Rick Carlisle, when asked a question about Pop, throws a "subtle jab" at Pop by recalling an obscure piece of offseason background noise and his method is to use the sentence "Gary Neal is not a point guard"????![]()
