Hmm he doesn't deserve to have 3 MVP awards already. The Thunder had a better record and Durant had just as good a year. He had an all NBA year for sure, but i dont see what made LeBron the MVP. Heck, Chicago, Oklahoma and San Antonio all had better records then Miami. What seperated LeBron from Durant hmm. Dubious decision.

No, they're not. But it's not like Durant is carrying his team solo and they'd be deep in the lottery without him, nor did OKC do significantly better than Miami.

MVP has always been this weird mix of "best player on a top team" "best stats" and "how hosed would the team be without him?". OKC and Miami were kind of a wash on everything but stats, so the guy with the stats won.

If I had an MVP vote, it would have gone to CP3 based on what he did for that Clipper team, but I don't think ranking him second or third is a complete travesty.

Agree with this 100%. An alternative could be switching it to have an Offensive Player of the Year similar to how the NFL does.

RAPM is the most accurate stat in measuring value and impact for a team, tbh..

Lebron's RAPM was +3.4..only 3 other starters with similar usage rates had a higher number(Tony Parker, Dirk Nowitzki and Blake Griffin)..

Nowitzki had a relatively mediocre first half of the season and his team was the 7th seed, so he didn't have a realistic shot..

Griffin can't create his own offense on a consistent basis and was the 2nd best player for the 5th seed..

Parker didn't have the hype to have a shot at the award(Pop and the Spurs depth received just as much credit)..

Realistically, the only other option is Chris Paul..his RAPM was +3.1, he led the Clippers to a top 5 seed, and his stats were great, across the board..the flaw with choosing Paul is that the Clippers were the 5th seed(a team outside of the top 4 rarely has an MVP award winner) and blew a chance at HCA, down the stretch..

Durant's RAPM was behind Harden and Westbrook, his team struggled down the stretch, and he doesn't play defense..they also didn't suffer any key injuries, IIRC..


Lebron was easily the correct choice..he was statistically the most valuable player on his team, he was the best offensive AND defensive player on his team..the Heat's bench is mediocre, and they don't have a coach..Wade missed a key number of games..it's an easy choice..
