I hated Neal, but I think I know why Pop did it... I think he's using Neal on Allen as a bait... it's a clear "mismatch" and I think the Heat felt compelled to go to that instead of letting Lebron and Wade do the damage. What's not clear is if it was a net positive.

I hate fans that ignore stupidity, just because the team won..

The Spurs won because of the big 3 + Leonard + Green's 3s..Gary Neal didn't play a part in this win, neither did Bonner..

Having great players on the team to negate the ty players doesn't make the latter any less ty, tbh..

And as I've said many times, Pop is the best coach in the NBA, but people act like he doesn't make stubborn and questionable decisions all the time..

Well, if we understand everything Pop does, we would be coaching some team right now instead of sitting at home posting this mystery. I am just saying....

    very simple

Pop just looked at the players that have played the Heat well. and Bonner and Neal have. We won the game.

Maybe, just maybe Pop has done more homework than a poster in Spurstalk

Yeah Gary Neal's three that pulled them closer and other jumpers didn't help at all.

Also it forced Miami to cover him and it opened things up a tad.

    Keep crabbing though.

If LeBron really gets rolling, it's not clear that you can slow him back down. Whereas you can always sub in someone who can actually defend and take away Ray. So I don't know if it really was Pop trolling the Heat, but if it was, I'm pretty impressed.

thinking you know more than Pop.

You honestly think he just puts out random players for the of it? Contrary to what you think every action by Pop is planned whether any of us understand it. He is a mastermind, and I have full confidence in him making the right decisions. You can find fault with why or why he didn't do something. Sit back and watch the game. Continue browsing pics on google got.

Spurs started the fourth with Tony/Green/Tiago/Bonner and Neal

With 9 minutes remaining KL entered the game for Bonner and it was small-ball from that point forward.

So you gotta give praise for that 4th quarter defense to any of these combinations:

    -Tony-Green-Neal-Bonner-Tiago
    -Tony-Green-Neal-Leonard-Tiago
    -Tony-Manu-Neal-Leonard-Tim

    -Tony-Manu-Green-Leonard-Tim

Pick the one you like better to give praises
Well, Pop gambled on those lineups and it worked(in the 4th quarter[terrible in the 2nd]), but why close games with one of our worst lineups?
You are the one advocating for Pop, i only pointed the closing lineup, we won but the rotations were horrible.Pop was bailed out by Tony/Timmy.

according to the logic by the Pop homers in this thread, Erik Spoelstra, Scott Brooks, Lionel Hollins, Alvin Gentry, Doc Rivers and many others have been superior coaches to Pop at some point in the past 5 years, since they've gotten better results in certain years..

Does that make sense, since we're only factoring results and ignoring logic?..

I don't give a if he makes 5 3-pointers in the 2nd half, Gary Neal shouldn't be playing for a team in the NBA Finals..

Any points that he scores is negated by his defense, tbh..
    This.

I want starting 5, Manu and Boris to get the majority of the minutes, as do the majority here. That said, I don't think Bonner is anywhere near as bad. He's limited, but he has decent size and puts in effort and has skill shooting.

    I don't like Neal playing.

Yes, because there's a long track record that demonstrates that any decent coach goes undefeated in the playoffs. Only ty coaches ever lose playoff games.
But decent coaches don't usually lose to lower seeds. The reason we swept the Grizzlies is because Pop kept Neal/Bonner from doing too much damage. Overplaying them makes the rest of the team have to work harder to make up for it. Because of getting rid of SJax we really need another rotation guy with solid defense and ball handling skills. The only guy that fits that is TMac and he hasn't played much.

I would much rather have a guy score 0 points and not give up any points than score 10 points and give up 10+ points. In the first case it improves the overall quality of the defense and prevents the other team from getting in rhythm.
