I guess we can give up on the hope that Manu was saving himself for the Finals.
Tim and Tony didnt play well
Manu actually played bad
I guess we can give up on the hope that Manu was saving himself for the Finals.
This loss isn't on any 1 player. The whole team minus Green and Leonard came to play like pussies who haven't been here before.
I have to think resigning Manu to a large contract would be a mistake regardless of anything. He couldn't maintain a high level of play for many minutes and for the majority of a season for nearly his whole career, and especially at this age. His body simply can't do what it used to. I'm surprised in how ty his dribbling was tonight though, that was terrible.
Thread started by someone who said Duncan was finished, so consider the source.
I trust Ginobili more at home at this point in his career, tbh. He pretty much sucked against the Thunder last year on the road but did well at home. Let's hope for similar transformation this season against an elite team.
I said it in another thread that got buried, but I can tell you a lot of what happened to Manu. Spoelstra told his guys not to bite on Manu's pump fakes... ever. And they didn't.
Like it or not, Manu has lost some foot speed. He uses that fake to get guys off their feet, and then he blows around them. The Miami defenders are just too quick for him to blow around consistently, if they ignore the pump fake and keep their feet. When they stay down, Manu can't penetrate. And when he can't penetrate, he's just another guy out on the perimeter. It's a problem.

The worse Manu plays, the worse Manu plays. He has no inhibitions to check himself.
What's obvious to everyone other than Manu is that he's lost a step. Or two. So why doesn't he accept his limits?
That's what good players do as they age.
He still thinks he's going to make the cover of Sports Illustrated.
There's no excuse for his selfish, terrible play.
Some quotes from him after Game 2:
- "I'm heading back home disappointed. I lost a Finals game, I'm gonna watch tape and learn from the mistakes"
- "They just ran over us from the 3rd quarter on. We knew it could happen, they have runs like that"
- "I was never comfortable. Especially after they called that third foul on me"
And one!
Couldn't agree more.
Duncan was really off as well. Parker was falling everywhere...
Green and Leonard provided enough to keep us close first half. So that's encouraging.
This team can handle a blowout I'd like to think. Most fans can't.
LOL blaming any fouls
stillNono for still being here after that performance.
lets home timvp is right and Manu has 1 hopefully 2 more NBA quality games left on him![]()
Yo ing re o. Let me tell you something. I don't understand why people can't objectively criticize a player without hating on him.
You and the other idiots who come out of a hole every time Manu has a bad game are just not very good Spurs' fans. What will happen if he does have a great Game 3? are you going to come out here and bend over? Please do that.
I don't understand the need for hating on the guy - you can say he was sloppy tonight, you can say he shot some bricks, etc - but calling this game on Manu is beyond ridiculous and it's an over-exaggeration on what really happened.
Please don't use a bad game to hate on the guy - YOU DONT KNOW ABOUT BB.
yeah, a guy who played 17 minutes lost a 48 minutes game.
Please learn your basketball.
He didnīt play well but by no means the Spurs would have won if Manu played better. The team sucked as a whole. Green played well on offense and Kwami in the rebounding department. Those are the only bright spots.
Other than that.
Manu and Tony looked lost.
Duncan looked unwilling to attack the block.
Kwami was out of control on offense (he should never ever jack up 12 shots in 3 quarters)
Green was horrible on defense.
Tiago played like he is 6 foot tall.
Neal....
not only was his ball handling poor, but his passes were so wild he forced team-mates to have to pass up open looks. By passing the nall high and off target Heat defenders were allowed to rotate in time and force Shooters off the 3pt line ...
Never seen Manu play that badly in a big game ...
Yeah, and he passed to guys way in the corner where two defenders were ready to pounce and trap. Just one of the worst games I've ever seen him play.
problem is with this Miami defense you have to force a lot of plays
Ginobili used to be good at running down the clock and making his layups.
this ability seems to be long gone now
I don't see him getting back to his old level
play leonard instead
Retire my ass. You don't want Ginobili on your team? Fine, but let him go somewhere else! Or are you scared he might prove you wrong?
Btw, series is not over.
The series???It's 1-1 and the next 3 games are at home. He won't play that bad again... not at home.
The whole team sucked outside of Danny. Seriously, everyone.. Can;t blame one person, even as bad as Manu was.
He was horrible turnobili in full form
I will give you my take and I'll start by criticizing our big 3. Tim Duncan was pathetic on defense. Early on he was extending outside trying to block jumpers instead of staying on the paint and protect the rim. I don't know how the he had 11 rebounds because Chris Bosch absolutely outplayed him on those offensive boards. Timmy does not box out his man after we get a defensive stop. Duncan had ZERO blocks. When Duncan posts up, instead of using brute force or using foot work to get to the rim, he does some tough fade away shots. This is probably the worst playoff game that Duncan has had this year. Duncan looked old tonight.
Manu was terrible on handling the ball. The man looked like he needed to be on a cane out there. This game looked like he completely lost all of his ball handling skills. He did a decent job on Dwayne Wade but he did leave Mike Miller and Ray Allen open at times. Another thing that pissed me off about Manu was those canon ball passes that he would do after being double teamed off a pick n roll. Manu looked like an old man today.
Tony was non-existent for the most part. Early on he had his couple of moments but for the most part he looked like the TP from the last month of the regular season. Seems to me like he completely gave up on the pick n rolls because of the way the Heat defend it. I give the Heat some credit for mixing their pick n roll defense and also mixing up their defense on Parker. Parker needs to move around and try to play off the ball. After being double teamed and passing up the ball, he just stays stationary on the perimter spectating his teammates (Gary Neal trying to play point guard). Tony is going to have to try to be more effective off the ball.
TIAGO SPLITTER. He played 22 minutes and one fu**ing rebound. Are you fu**ing kidding me?
I give props to Danny Green and Gary Neal. They played well offensively. Khawi Leonard played pretty good defense on Lebron James. On the other hand perimeter defense is another story. Everyone kept leaving Mike Miller and Ray Allen open for three's. Credit Lebron for collapsing our defense. Mario Chalmers had the game of his career.
The officiating was so blatantly one-sided. We got no calls at all. I can't blame the officiating today because of the Spurs terrible defense.
Unfortunately, Spurs don't need Manu to "contribute in other ways..". They need him to be a part of a big 3 consistently in all areas.
This right there, is when the game was lost. Sure they weren't playing well as a team, and there's plenty of blame to go around. But as bad as they were playing, they were right there with Miami and had them on the ropes. As soon as Neal and Manu came in, Miami started their run. Manu was awful tonight, and this is one of them games where the coach should have ridden the "hot hand" in Danny Green
