So when I'm playing hearts of Iron (the 39' Germany scenario mostly) I'll defeat Poland first but not annex them. I'll try to end the war as fast as I can, and erect a puppet government so I'll have a buffer between me and the Soviet Union. Then I'll focus on battling with the UK and France, asking for military access from Belgium (declare war on them and then curbstompe them if they refuse) and destroying the French troops in 1-2 months. You have attack them through Belgium because there'd be no of way to get through the Maginot line tbh. Then I'll make up 3-4 fleets of marines constructed in the past 3-4 months during the wars against Poland and France, and send the fleets led by Karl Donitz to destroy the Royal Navy. British troops ain't to match to mine so I'll have occupied the entire Britain by the end of 1940.

All these scenarios are supposition, but to say the Nazis were doomed from the start is just stupidity. Prior to Barbarosa and Pearl Harbor things were looking just peachy (even w/ the BoB stalemate), and the U.S. was content to just send grub to the U.K.

When you consider logistics, the war had been over the moment the Soviets began utilizing their industrial potential in the Ural mountains. Much like Rommel had the upper hand until the Allies understood the value of logistics. Germany only had the advantage because of their economy being propped up by a surge in the military industry. No other country at the time was ready for waging war. If the war had started with each nation at their peak of production, France and Poland would be the only casualties until Germany sued for peace because of the inability to wage war further.

True story, that's why it was a mistake for Germans or anyone to start a war against a giant imho. Japs couldn't even win the war in Asia against Chinese militias who were mostly equipped with weapons of the 19th century. Germans still had tanks and guns near the end of the war, but not enough men to fight for them. I always feel shorthanded fighting against the Russians, that's why I hate playing the 41' Germany scenario, let alone the 44' scenario.

the computer game, you ever play Axis & Allies--the board game? Seemed like you could always tell how the game would play out based on what Russia did their first turn. If the dude playing Russia attacked, the Axis would usually end up winning. If they just stacked up and defended, they would eventually exhaust Germany. Best game ever, though.

Order of preference in playing that game:

2. U.S.A.
3. Japan
4. U.K.
5. U.S.S.R

While Hearts of Iron allows you to choose any country to take control of. And Hearts if Iron is also the most realistic World War game I've ever played, there're even historical events occuring in the game, and the personalities are also real. You would feel as if you were reading a history book while playing Hearts of Iron, imho.

It's pretty fun, tbh...I'll give Hearts of Iron a try though...just read about HoI3:

I always feel shorthanded fighting against the Russians, that's why I hate playing the 41' Germany scenario, let alone the 44' scenario.

War with the Soviets was inevitable due to political differences. The best course of action would be to hold France and sue for peace early and attack the Soviets. Stalin had been close to suing for peace as the motherland was almost destroyed, but an earlier assault would push the Soviets before their industrial complex had developed. I believe this would allow Germany to sue for peace on the condition the Soviets gave up territory until the Urals.

HOI 3 is a computer killer imho so if you wanna have a try of it, I recommend HOI 2. I've played all 3 generations of that game and the latest is indubitably the tiest, it takes my laptop (the one purchased in Nov. 2011, AMD 8 processor, 4G RAM, 1G video Memory) nearly 10 minutes to load the game.

HOI 2 is the badass imho, well designed, good graphic details, user-friendly control panel, a perfect blend of reality and playability. HOI 1 is also good but its skin looks rather old, and it has too many bugs imho, still a decent game regardless.

Can't argue against this tbh. Dude had the similar personality like Mark Cuban, always wanting to make a difference in the military actions despite himself being a moron in military knowledge. There were many military wizards in the Nazi Germany (most notably Manstein, Rommel and Guderian) but head always managed to choose some idiots (like Paulus) for the most crucial battles.
