Yes, because America became great through high taxes, over regulation, appeasement, and a lack of confidence coupled with a "you didn't build that" at ude.

"We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things. Not because they are easy, but because they are hard" got replaced with "It isn't fair I am a poor lazy slob. Give me free stuff now. America sucks. The rest of the world is better than we are. Pride in yourself and your country is a vice. Racist!"
This is pretty ing ignorant. When did the US become a hegemony? Was it during the time of laissez faire as you pretend?

It wasn't but by all means regurgitate the RNC narrative like a mindless buffoon.

Limited Government in charge of PROTECTING and ENSURING individual LIBERTY is what the Federal Government is charged with under our Cons ution. It doesn't. It has gone off the rails and we are about a heartbeat away from it collapsing on itself.

The market will do a better job than the govt can. Always has. Always will. Central planning doesn't work. The initiative of the individual is what made America, not commandments from a king on high.
Individual liberty? Thats a nice catch phrase thats gets real blurry after some thought. Republicans idea of liberty is only the strong survive, which gets us right back to tyranny. The only liberty we have is the right to vote, where everybody has a say no matter their lot in life and unfortunately sometimes level of intelligence. And because the government voted in is a government that will take care of the poor more than the other, a bigger government will happen. This is the government as you said, "ensuring our individual liberties". It is what it is.

Also the market does well with regulation something the right wing want nothing to do with.

Demographic shift - aka being overrun by ignorant third worlders looking for a handout over a job. Yay. We will all be better off once the grifters run everything!

Centered social aspect? Wtf? You mean let you have abortions and shoot up drugs but take away my guns and pickup truck. You want freedom for you but not for me. You want your hand in my pocket, doctor's office, and bedroom. Tell me what I can eat or drive. Ad nauseum.

    No thanks.

I will let you do your thing. Leave me alone to do mine. But that's not good enough. You people think you know better than I what's best for me and that's ridiculous.

You're generalizing to a ridiculous extent. This country has not been trending downward simply due to the actions of its marginalized people. You want a good idea as to why things have unfolded the way the have? Just follow the money. Reagan wasn't the demigod that right wingers make him out to be, the same way that Clinton wasn't the superhero president that many on the left believe him to be. The truth about those two men, as with many things in politics, lies somewhere in between the two extremes, but getting to that point is difficult.

Just about all of your posts in this thread have been very black and white "company line" right wing statements. Life and society are very complex, and in order for the Free Market and more reserved government approach to work (one with virtually no regulations, etc.), the individuals in a society need to show a certain level of altruism and develop a certain level of education/understanding. Unfortunately, America is sorely lacking in both, and has been for some time.

Our quality/efficacy of education is plummeting, and because of our "melting pot" status, we are now filled with groups of people who are too busy igniting class/racial warfare to stop and work with one another to achieve common goals.

"It's my hard-working money, why give it to someone who is just going to freeload?" "They're just a bunch of capitalist pigs," and on and on ad nauseum.

Also, this next comment is not just for Skull: If your go-to move in political discussion is to whine about politicians, and you've never made any attempt to contact your rep/senator, participate in political forums, or vote for anything outside of president, then please STFU. You're part of the problem.

    ESPN says otherwise.

    So does Sports Illustrated.

Popovich also owns up to being a political liberal, which gives an interesting edge to conversations with his old buddies on the Air Force Academy endowment committee and with Spurs owner Peter Holt, a GOP contributor.

I'll say this about Pop's political views: Pop is a very worldly, well-learned, intelligent, and thoughtful individual, so I have no doubt that his political ideals are VERY informed. That's all that I would ask of anyone, regardless of where their views lie. I highly doubt that Pop is a complete liberal on every issue, but rather a majority of his views may align with that side. No need to hate. I doubt anyone spewing derisive comments in this thread would fare well in a political debate with him...

It's not "me". I support the 2nd amendment fully. I think the ACA is a piece of .

But none of those are the usual electoral social wedge issues: religion, abortion, the minority classes (immigration, blacks, gays, etc)... (although I suspect the ACA might end up being in '16, but not a sure thing either)
Oh, I see. Well, there have been other demographic shifts. But back then it was sink or swim and we occasionally took a pause to assimilate people. Now we pander and create subcultures that Balkanize. It is the end of the nation.

To your other point, the ACA is the ultimate class warfare issue as only the elites will be able to get care with it. But the ignorant new immigrants don't know any better so they keep pulling the D lever and the Rs are afraid to be called names so they fold like lawn chairs...

Of course. Binary pigeonholing is an oversimplification that the ignorant and stupid hold onto. That being said he donates to the DNC and calls himself a liberal.

It isn't the government's job to equalize outcomes.

Voting is tyranny of the majority. We are a REPUBLIC not a democracy. If you want liberal big government move to California. But you have no right to dictate to Wyoming what it does.

We the people are supposed to be free to pursue happiness. It isn't the role of the government to "spread the wealth around". Equality of opportunity not outcome. If you want equal outcome try North Korea.

As the government grows liberty declines. Period. If you want that crap go to China.

He donated $2000 one time to the failed presidential bid of John Edwards back in 2000 and to BO in 2008. Hardly makes him a shill for democrats. The author of the sports illustrated article never actually quoted Pop saying that he was a liberal. He took literary license with that statement. Pop has also supported George Bush when he ran for Governor and while he was President. Attending various functions in support of his policies, especially after 9/11. I was at two functions in SA where he actually introduced Bush at an event at Sunset Station. He's a political mutt, self-admittedly.
