So James won't be around for the playoff run?
No, the last day of the regular season is the latest date to sign a playoff eligible player.
So James won't be around for the playoff run?
They needed to make room on the bench for the warmup outfits and Tiago's purse.
Damn man he's not going to be our T-Mac on the bench?
This kind of surprises me. I wonder if he did something wrong, or just had no skills.
For me, that's not a good enough explanation. James cost nothing to keep for the playoffs, and he was literally their only option for 15th man. There's no reason to get rid of depth just because he doesn't try hard enough.
That's Pop's exact MO. Green was cut his first time around. So was Devin Brown, in 2003, and it cost him a ring. If you're an end of the bencher, you'd better not be mailing it in.
Baynes, Ayres, Bonner, Daye, and Cojo remain the "break glass" unit to burn up garbage time minutes, if any. None of them should play any meaningful minutes at all. That's all the depth we need beyond our 9 man rotation.
I hope yourew right. But I still thought James did enough to stay on. He was the only other "natural three" on the team besides Leonard.
A quote from a David Aldridge article on the CotY thread:
"Popovich's demands for excellence -- no matter who's on the floor -- never has anything to do with a given game. Rather, it is about the elusive, unattainable goal of beating the game of basketball itself."
Watched him close in the Houston game and I saw nothing wrong with his effort. His defense was oK but he looked like he tried on that end.
Put me in the camp of not understanding letting him go
And it may not be the end of the road for him. Like I said, both Danny Green and Devin Brown were cut loose once each before they ultimately stuck with the Spurs. This time around, however, Pop thought so little of DJ that they didn't pick him up for the playoffs.
There must have been a mistake in the second signing, though. It was said that he was signed for the remainder of the season, and that would include the playoffs. It must have been another 10 day, which expired after the last game.
Via McDonald:
Damion James still on roster, not with team for playoffs.

Damn. That must sting.
I saw that he was on the inactive list for Game 1. I guess there's no point in dragging him all over creation and paying per diem and hotel money to sit on the inactive list. If he were there, two players would have to be inactive. Now, I believe it's only one.
Yeah, I haven't heard of a team doing that unless a player has done something wrong, which it sounds like he hasn't. Beats being cut for him though.
