I hate that we're even in this position. The Mavs would get absolutely destroyed in the next round. Scrubs playing like all time greats against us.

so sad but true. before all I could think about was getting back to the Finals and righting the wrongs, now it's just hoping not to lose in the first, which would be a brutal kick in the face. not sure what the is wrong with this team, other than Pop holding onto the big 3 way past the expiration date. Hopefully they can at least make it to the WCF, that would be good enough.
It is sad, but I wouldn't say true just yet. Also, I don't think anything is necessarily wrong with the Spurs, I think it's just a testament to how this first round has been to practically every team/series so far. The Mavs/Spurs are still a damn good rivalry, and it's unfortunate it looks like the Mavs have a little more in the tank, but I think Spurs will win Sunday and as Mugen said, hopefully get to to the WCF. Spurs need to win with defense... Green on Ellis and Kawhi on Carter the whole game and we should be fine...
    And Splitter on Dirk.

I think the Spurs have enough to win Game 7, even if it's a tight one. My concern going forward, should they advance, is Pop. I've always trusted the dude to make intelligent choices but he's let Carlisle dictate the matchups all series long. Would he snap out of it against Portland? Is he keeping his cards close to the chest for later in the playoffs? Deliberately letting this series drag to expose role players to more playoff pressure?

this team is good enough to waltz into the WCF. A part of me wants to think he's saving the real deal for a potential series against OKC but he's playing with fire doing it.

    o.......it is Portland!!!!
A young and fresh Blazers team who have always been a tough matchup for the Spurs doesnt sound as easy as you think.

I thought the Spurs looked better against Portland this season than they did against Houston, tbh. Harden didn't play well in the first round but he's always been a Spurs killer. They were going to have their hands full either way but I prefer Portland's inexperience to Houston's squad of playoff players that ate the Spurs alive this season.

Must win! If Spurs lose then unfortunately I'll remember Pop as the guy that tarnished Duncan's legacy.

When was the last time the spurs won a game while facing elimination?
The Spurs don't usually face elimination very early, and they have rarely won when they do.

2011 First Round, Game 5 vs Memphis
2008 West Semis, Game 6 vs New Orleans
2008 West Semis, Game 7 vs New Orleans
2005 NBA Finals, Game 7 vs Detroit

Aside from those four games, the Spurs have either not been in an elimination situation at all or they lost. I only went back to the 1999 le run, since I figured we'd keep things in the Duncan era.

Game 6 vs New Orleans, 2008. Spurs won by 19. Game 7 was actually headed for a rout, but New Orleans cut the deficit to 3 with about a minute and a half left, couldn't capitalize, and the Spurs won by 9 or something.

That young and inexperienced teams has an all-star duo that just outplayed the Rockets all-star duo. If we're struggling to get past a team with no all-stars how much tougher will a team with 2 all-stars be? Lillard and Aldridge will have a field day against the Spurs.

Am I just an old dude and don't know the current palming/carrying the ball rule, or does Ellis carry the ball every time?? Easy to freeze your defender when your allowed to do that. Along w getting a call basically any time he drives to the hole, he is being treated like he is Jordan. Take this away and I think the Spurs are fine but his ability to carry the ball is breaking down our defense big time.

The term "all star" means nothing, Dallas has gotten outstanding play from Ellis, Calderon, and Carter pretty much all series. In four regular season games against SA, the Blazers only got 25 or more points out of Aldridge once in 3 games, and got 30 or more out of Lillard once. In four games against Houston, the Spurs got torched by Harden, and suffered from solid contributions from Beverly, Parsons, and Howard.

You're asking me to pick my poison, because both teams offered obstacles that the Spurs could struggle with. Harden has pretty much never had a bad game against the Spurs, and Howard presents a size issue that is compounded by the fact that unlike LA, the Rockets have surrounded him with shooters.

Portland's offense is built almost entirely on Lillard and Aldridge. Matthews tends to chip in solidly as well, so you have 3 potential problems there - except all 3 are shooters. Forcing Portland to be a jumpshooting team and carving up their defense on the other end sounds like a better option to me than dealing with the Rockets, who never failed to give the Spurs fits. Let Aldridge erupt for 40 - if he's the only one doing it, and he's doing it from long range, so be it. Lock down elsewhere and cut off his other resources.

Neither series would be easy, but Portland doesn't offer the same size problems and they lack a profound amount of playoff experience that could hurt them against a more savvy team. Houston is not the opponent to make Portland look weak.

I'm scared of Aldridge and Lillard too, but the Mavs are a scary group because they have guys who have won before or have enough playoff experience to put up a fight. That is why we are going 7 games.

Melissa doesn't look afraid. I think we will see an extremely motivated team tomorrow in the Spurs. Also, I hope they play Blair a lot because it's sure to just agitate us.
