Los Barrios Rules.
ha a ha ha ha ha, man this was a question thread and it turned into a multiple page thread.
Los Barrios Rules.
That is great mexican food right there! By the way, if you are going to Los Barrios I believe the same people own La Hacienda on Redland road not far from 1604. Their food tastes the same to me although I'm sure some here will disagree. Just thought I'd mention it.You might want to try Jacala on West Avenue between I-10 and Frederickburg.
Yes, it's the same ownership. I considered La Hacienda and called them, but they don't take reservations. And for 10-12 people, I don't want to stand around and wait without reservations.
Are the owned by the same people who own La Fonda on Main?
if you want to go to the south side don pedro it open till 4:00am sw military good food.
nope...
How about Pico de Gallo or Piedras Niegras del Noche! Pico is a little more pricey than Piedras, but they both stay open pass 11:00pm!!
Stay away from Mamasitas and Tomatillos!! THEY SUCK!!!!!!
Piedras Niegras del Noche is a great place. Their mole is badass.
mmmmm...
that is my favorite restaurant. it is the first place i go to when i arrive back home in san antonio. sometimes straight from the airport. good food at decent prices. good, large margaritas.
last time i was home in may, the weather was really nice so we sat outside on the patio. my little cousins love it.
now i am hungry... and nothing is going to do it...
there is a place at the corner of broadway and I think basse rd. It's been a while but it's in the shopping center where the albertson's is.. man that place rocked. Sorry I can't remember the name of it, but my spanish order has had several meetings there.
Great atmosphere quiet and quaint and I think they take reservations for large parties..
Have you ever been to the original one in Houston between 3rd and 5th Ward? I used to eat there all the time back when I lived out there. They have the best flour tortillas I've ever had, the salsa's outstanding, and enchiladas were always dope there... the neighborhood looked like a freaking ghost-town though, and the street was like 10x worse than West Ave. used to be by Jacala, but it was always packed.

For anyone in LA you gotta try El Tepeyac Cafe on Evergreen in East LA (near the intersection of Soto and Cesar Chavez). No alcohol, but their enchiladas are incredible (they have the best enchilada sauce I've ever tasted), and their burritos are even better (and I hate burritos with the exception of this place). Plates are like $6-$11, and your food is out like right after the order is placed it seems (probably because the place is very small, but very packed also). They have this one burrito for like $6.35 called the Hollenbeck (name of the neighborhood police district) that's stuffed with carnitas, salsa verde, guacamole, rice, and beans and is huge. I can't finish it in one sitting, which shocks me since I used to eat family orders fom Bob's Smokehouse on Rigsby like it was nothing when I was in SA. It's gotta be at least a couple of pounds. Plus, you know the restaraunt's good when all the regular customers are huge (thank god it's on the other side of town from me). A lot of the people working there have been there for like 20-30 years too, which means you won't see too many hottie waitresses but you do get service with lots of pride in the place.
i was laughing at this but then the memory of taco bell taste in my mouth made me vomit.
I'm sure thats not the only taste in your mouth that made you vomit![]()
Uhm. I worked at Siesta in Victoria.... and uhm. you don't want to eat those enchiladas. well maybe on Monday becasue thats the day they make them - for the whole week!
they make sheets and sheets of them on monday and then leave them out all day every day from open to close under a heat lamp. they only see refrigeration form 1030pm to 9am. It's sick.
And Bobby ( the owner. he's big into the school board and other city olitics like restoring the old court house) He's this super supoer fat ass hole that sweats buckets and he'll graze his sweaty fat ass thru the kitchen plopping his chubby fingers inthe mole, the gucamole, wahtever's handy and then lick his finger and then stick it in some other food item .
But your right about Venturas. OMG! those tamales are the ing bomb!!
I really miss Guerra's for breakfast tacos. damn I'm drooling.
El Rafas on Hildebrand is great. It tears your ass up though.
Mexican food isn't good unless it causes you to want to have a huge so that it will cause a splash that will cool down the fire in your asshole.
not mexican food, but cheap as and as long as you dont mind the screaming s afterwards.
well its authentic up here in michigan, so yea. its very good.
you poor poor poor deprived soul.
If that was the only "mexican" food available to me I'd shoot myself.
And I say "mexican" with the " " 's because Taco Bell barely even qualify's as FOOD. It is sooooooo far below actual mexican food that it couldn't view meican food's asshole thru a telescope.
Sounds like my bacon wrapped bar-b-que Jalapeno Poppers![]()
Try the TexMex Cafe in Juneau, Alaska next time you are in the neighborhood.
Goooooood Stuff.
Man, I'm sad that nobody in this thread reccomended Mexican Manhattan. I ing LOVE that place.
Piedras Negras is also great.
I used to like Jacala's, but I had a very bad experience there one time and the management was so full of . I took my mom there a bit after she had surgery, and the waiter spilled tea right on the spot she had an incision. She was soaked, and the most they offered to compensate us was give us 2 free teas. I was amazed that they were going to treat repeat customers like that, so I've never been back and that was quite some time ago.
