I usually agree, but 18-1 was such a gigantic choke that it has to be held against Brady. Other than that, it's really the fact that defense was allowed in Montana's era and that it took Brady six Super Bowls to break a touchdown record that Montana set in four that puts Montana way ahead of Brady.sports fans are so stupid with their logic..

I've never even called Peyton the GOAT. probably regular season GOAT though. definitely one of the best and one of my favorites for changing how QBs direct the offense instead of acting like robots out there.
Marino is the best pure passer I've seen and he'd rocco siffredi the league with the modern rules.
Montana will always be number 1 in my book. He just had a grace or coolness under fire that no one has matched since. maybe Eli or Flacco but still not quite.
Brady has done some great things, no doubt, he's definitely the greatest system QB i've ever seen. Tell him what the defense is doing, take a couple psi's off and can get dangerous. Will be real interesting if he ever leaves Belichick's safety net, especially now that they drafted Garafalo.

I don't think Brady is the best QB in Michigan history. His career there was pretty unremarkable.
Look I respect Joe Cool but I think now with the 4 plus the other two SB appearances, I am giving the edge to Brady. I dont get how 4-0 > 4-2. Brady has his team in contention every year even AFTER losing HOF mates such as McGinest and BRushi. He never has had a Jerry Rice just a couple brilliant Moss and Gronk seasons. We may hate Brady's pretty boy swag but he is the GOAT QB ...
That doesn't prove that Montana is indisputably a superior football player to Tom Brady.
No, I want him to prove his blanket statement that Montana is superior to Brady.
So in the NBA we have cats arguing that due to more complex defense, better athletes modern science and anlytics that today's players are superior to the 80's legends ... but in the NFL, Montana's 4 is better than Brady's 4-2? I get it's a team sport but the hypocrisy of this site and the inconsistency of arguments is befuddling. Basically the group think praises or s on certain players and not even rings seems to shift the dynamic. Makes little sense to me but I am old school. Winning les is the ultimate measuring stick regardless of the sport.
After their first couple, they flamed out early for 3 straight years, but had some young talent developing, so that by time they went back to back, they were pretty loaded and could simply out-talent other teams. Those first two SBs were clearly a result of a system teams were not well equipped to defend against. The second two were simply stacked squads, with a bunch of really good to great players in Rice, Taylor, Craig, Rathman, Romanowski, Haley, Lott, etc... that team was simply loaded. No different than Brady's early squads who were loaded with defensive talent, and of course he won 3 in 4 years.No, they won back to back in 1988 and 1989 after losing to the Giants in 86 and 87 and reached the NFC le game in 1990 and lost on a last second FG after Montana was knocked out of the game and basically missed the following season and benched in 1992. However, he gets traded to the Chiefs and carries them to the AFC le game in his first year at the age of 38
And let's not act like the KC team was awful or something. They had like 4-5 pro bowlers that year, and quite a few other solid players, including former or soon-to-be pro bowlers. Him and Brady have pretty much had comparable stretches of teams over their careers.
From the statistical aspect, Brady has noticeably superior stats (some of which are due to adjustments in the game, but they are still NOTABLY better), along with a better winning % in both the regular season and the playoffs.
From a physical ability aspect, Brady had more longevity, is physically bigger and stronger, with a stronger throwing arm and arguably has the best pocket presence/patience of any QB ever, while Joe would run a bit more.
From an accomplishments aspect, Brady has 2 more Pro Bowl seasons, while Joe had 1 more All-Pro season (Brady played in an era with WAY MORE elite QBs though, in particular Peyton), both have 2 MVPs, 4 SB wins, and 3 SB MVPs, but Brady led his team to 2 more SB appearances.
From an intangible aspect, both are fantastic winners, and highly clutch, but Brady actually has more 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives in both regular season and post season. And then theres the AV rating (which is a rating system that shows the approximate value of a player to their teams success) which Brady also bests Montana at.
So what I want proven to me is... what makes Joe UNQUESTIONABLY better than Brady, as so many people want to claim?
Some people just seem to struggle to accept change. Fact is, there will constantly be bigger and better players coming out as time progresses. In about 15-20 years, there will probably be some QBs that will then be having arguments as being superior to Brady, while Montana will have been generally forgotten about by then, and the chain will keep going on and on. I just refuse to defend a player simply because of some pointless emotional attachment to an era of players. If a player is superior, then they are simply superior, no arguments needed.
Personally, I think Brady > Montana by a bit, but I can see both sides. I just can't see how people can make a blanket statement that Montana is superior with no questions asked. That is an incredibly narrow-minded point of view.

Normally I'd say it's the QB that makes the receiver, but Jerry Rice was a sick freak of nature that he's the exception to the rule, imo. I have yet to see anyone better at taking a five yard pass and turn it into an 80 yard TD.
I read a stupid article once that if you were to split Jerry's career into two by going odd and even years, that it would be enough top make two Hall of Fame caliber careers.
Meanwhile Brady has Edelman.
