They're going to show the game again in an hour or so. Re-watch the start. Parker hit two shots in the paint to start things off - a floater, and a short jumper I think. Nothing wrong with that. Kawhi was a little shaky to start. He committed a needless foul on Harden, then missed his first fade-away, then a bad pass for a TO. Parker kept driving it and getting layups or very short jumpers - it looked to me like he was just taking what they were giving. Parker dished to Danny for an easy one, then he dimed Duncan for the alley-oop. Green assisted Baynes, and Leonard missed his next two shots.

So for 7 1/2 minutes to open the game, Kawhi just wasn't feeling it. And Parker had taken most of his shots (not all, but most) from about 3 feet or less. A couple of minutes later, Pop gave Kawhi a breather.

When Kawhi came back in, Tony wasn't on the floor - CoJo was at the point. Parker came back in the game, and 17 seconds later Kawhi scored. Then Kawhi took the Spurs' next shot, and scored again. Seems like Parker gave him the ball then.

The Spurs' next three shots were layups. None of them were Kawhi, but I can't fault Parker when the team is getting layups - no matter who shoots them.

I don't know what to tell you. That first half didn't look to me like Parker was a black hole or anything. I know Kawhi didn't take a lot of shots. I'd have to go back and re-watch, but I think he got more touches than that, couldn't get the shot he wanted, and gave the ball up.
Spurs were down 8 iirc when cojo came in with parker still running the point. Kawhi hit 2 shots with no assist from parker. cojo caused havoc with his defense and got a steal iirc. then he hit a shot and parker hit a couple more to close the half. kawhi was sucking early but you still have to go back to him imo. it's awesome that we won and I'm glad parker was aggressive but i'd like to see him mix it up more.

Not sure, if it happens when the PG is an amazing scorer or score-first player.
Tony didn't recognize the favorable matchup that Kawhi had against Ellis in the post in all Mavs series last playoffs.
We're discussing tonight. The recognition was there tonight.

"with no assist from parker" - yeah, but you aren't looking for Kawhi to get assists, right? You want him to get the ball, and everyone to get out of the way. All I'm saying that that Parker came back into the game, and 17 seconds later, Kawhi scored on his own. Then he did it again. So that stretch was exactly what you are looking for.

After that, it was dunk, layup, layup, layup. You just can't condemn the PG when a team is getting those shots - no matter who is shooting them. Even if Kawhi shot 80% while iso'd on someone, those were 100% shots that the Spurs were getting.

So I'm saying - Kawhi started out a little shaky. Then he was off the floor. Then he was in without Parker. Then he got a couple of the possessions you're looking for. Then the team got layups and dunks for a while. None of that is greedy play on the part of Parker.

And, like I said, mixed in with all of that were some touches where Kawhi didn't like the look, and kicked the ball back out. You can't blame Parker if Kawhi has the ball, but decides not to press.

Is it good for Kawhi to be leading the way these days? Sure. But tonight, Tony was getting to the hole, or getting other people there. That is never bad, if the defense allows it. Mostly, the Spurs looked bad early due to some sloppy play all around. Not because they were ignoring Kawhi. If Parker was really chucking, I'd be right there with you. I just didn't see it that way. But I can understand why it sort of felt that way. We weren't watching Kawhi -slap defenders over and over again, like the last several games. But I think it's just the way things flowed tonight.

I just don't want Parker to get it in his head that he needs to shoot more or lead this team. Just these last finals he said "I need to trust my teammates in this series". It was the Finals. I mean was he just then realizing that?
