Duncan and Leonard Help Spurs Beat Clippers 111-107 in OT

LOS ANGELES — Three days from his 39th birthday, Tim Duncan keeps getting better with age. He smartly stayed on the court while playing the last eight minutes with five fouls, and recovered from a woeful fourth quarter to steady the Spurs in overtime.

Duncan scored 28 points and fellow NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard added 23 to help San Antonio beat the Los Angeles Clippers 111-107 on Wednesday night, tying their Western Conference playoff series at 1-1.

"He was spectacular," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of Duncan. "He continues to amaze me with the things that he is able to do. He knows he had to stay on the court and he figured out a way to do it. He continued to be aggressive, which is pretty amazing."

Duncan apologized to his teammates after going 1 of 5 in the fourth, when Manu Ginobili fouled out and Tony Parker was already gone with a right Achilles' injury.

"I was awful," Duncan said. "I missed two or three layups, I made two or three defensive mistakes, got out of position and gave up dunks to DeAndre (Jordan)."

Duncan made up for it in overtime, scoring four straight points, and Patty Mills had eight of his 18 off the bench to give the Spurs a road split.

"Seeing the team play like this today was very important," Ginobili said. "Hopefully we bring the same sense of urgency, the same fire and juice, for Game 3."

The series, the only one of eight in the first round that is tied after two games, moves to San Antonio for Game 3 on Friday night.

"This is going to be a uva series," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said.

The defending champion Spurs blew 10-point leads in the third and fourth quarters, and got into overtime on a pair of free throws by Mills with 8 seconds left in regulation.

"They are battle-tested," Clippers guard Jamal Crawford said. "They lose Parker, Mills steps in. Manu is out, (Danny) Green steps in. That is what they do. You have to tip your hat to them."

TD apologizing for his 4th qtr = A thing of greatness. Looking a bunch of guys in the face and telling them you ed up is awesome. I was 9 years old when he was drafted. I'm 27 now and it has been an honor to watch this guy play every year. One of the absolute greatest of all time...
I'm with you man. I'm 28 and grew up with Tim Duncan. He's just so damn special. I became a Spurs fan in the day of Robinson and Elliott but I never thought it would get this good to be a Spurs fan. Tim Duncan has brought this team, fans and city for that matter a whole lot of joy. Thanks for everything Timmy. Keep on keepin on.

Just a few years ago, many people had the ing audacity to put somebody like Kobe in the same breath as him ..

    mainstream media
    still waiting for the decline
    Father Time is a pussy
A few years ago? They still say Kobe is better.

What a performance by Tim. I was so nervous that he was going to get called for his 6th foul on that amazing block right after he picked up his 5th.

Having said that, this game made me nervous. I was pretty confident going into tonight and while they played a of a lot better, something is going on because many of the problems still persists. The offense worked so much better, but they still missed FT's and 3's. Let's hope it's just the road because I don't think Spurs can survive missing the good looks they do get - especially with TP not giving the Spurs any point production.
They didn't expect Manu AND Parker to give them absolute . Its embarrassing. Maybe coming home will*wake them up.

Went up to the team and apologized to the team for his 'bad' 4th Qtr per Kawhi. Then came back put the team on his back in OT.

Yall think Enrique will apologize to the team for his entire season?
He later say he wanted to apologize but he had laryngitis and couldn't.

Suck it to all those people (not spurs fans) who try to use playing with Parker and Manu to discredit Duncan's true level of top 5 all time greatness.

He is the absolute backbone of everything done over the last 18 years.

Like 2007. Like 2014. Tim was our best player in the play offs.

I watched him play today and he was slow, barely moved his legs, and any drive blew past him. His shot was flat and lots of lollipop hooks. But his shot was on, and his knowledge for the game even the odds off his athleticism.

"I was awful," Duncan said. "I missed two or three layups. I made two or three defensive mistakes where I got out of position and gave up dunks. I was awful in that fourth quarter."

Duncan certainly never had reason to apologize after a performance in which his brilliance far outweighed his blunders, but the 38-year-old perennial All-Star found a way to redeem himself in overtime anyway.
BDL: 'Awful' fourth quarter can't tarnish Tim Duncan's big night

Last night reaffirmed what any Spurs fan should have always known but sometimes we forget. This isn't Kiwi's team, this isn't Tony's team, this is and will remain Timmy's team until he leaves.

To sum up what I heard at a Spurs game a few years ago:

"How is Tim Duncan still going?!"

    Duncan simply doesn't age.

The fact that this guy is so brushed aside by the media is just sad. Sure They'll begrudgingly give him his due with "oh and don't forget Duncan" in passing, but they generously give other media darlings way more than they deserve. Tim has forced every ounce of respect hes gotten.

If Kobe had a game like last night, espn would do a three hour special on it.
