Per SportsVU, professional soccer players run 3 to 4 times more than NBA players per game...

the game is twice as long and the field is a heck of a lot bigger. that's expected

But the football game finishes faster than the basketball game. Well except in those cases where a match goes to extra time.

that's irrelevant to the point. 48 minutes of gametime/running in basketball. twice that for lol soccer when you factor in stoppage time

Oh come on man . If this is the path we're going to take (with all due respect) then we should just agree to disagree. But we cannot ignore the eye test, that is very powerful. I don't want to start sounding like Avante here (), but just think about these following players in comparison to a lot of Futbol players out there.

    Blake Griffin
    Dwight Howard
    DeAndre Jordan
    Giannis Ansaelrkjtghdfgjndfgd-BO
    Harrison Barnes
    Eric Bledsoe
    DeMarcus Cousins
    Anthony Davis
    DeMar DeRozan
    Zach Levine
    Aaron Gordon
    Andre Iggydalaaa

This is other worldly athleticism comparatively. (IMO)
What do you consider to be athletic traits?

The Two Escobars is about Columbia and how they were one of the top-5 national sides prior to the 94 World Cup. The truth is: the Yayo funded most of, if not all of, the soccer renaissance in Columbia. Only recently, have they begun to field a good team.
Did you go to that when it was in LA? I remember Jim Rome saying they had to give tickets away for free when you bought gas and like that.

Strength, Speed, Explosion, Leaping Ability, Agility, Stamina, etc etc. Basically all encompassing physical traits/abilities.

Well, I can make a case for at least 4 of those being generally better on Soccer players. But that's not even the point, let's say basketball is more "athletic", the only reason I quoted you is because you said this:

"Athletes". Better than most Baseball players but still. "Athletes"
Implying football players are poor or at best middle of the table "athletes" when is one of the few sports where you need to be a complete, first class athlete to even have a chance to play it. I can give you basketball but NFL, Hockey or most other sports' athletes aren't even close to being the athletes football player are.

That is my original quote yes. But I'm not going to sit here and lie to you. I don't have close to the same amount of respect for a Futbol player comparatively to a Basketball player, or even a Football player. I do agree Hockey players are very overrated, and are subpar to most of the lot.

What I absolutely respect about Futbol players is their stamina and agility. But, overall, the various sorts of world class athletes that play basketball, especially the size of some of these players who have these all encompassing abilities you just don't see in other sports (and if there is an outlier, the amount isn't nearly as prevalent comparatively), the diversity from positions and what's required is unparalleled. I've never seen a Futbol player like LBJ or Westbrook. And I think it's patently obvious that many basketball players could've played many different sports where as so many Futbol players are much more limited comparatively.

But as far as football is concerned, there are guys (especially at skill positions) that have elite athleticism. Beckham JR, Jamaal Charles, LeSean McCoy. Of course the retort will involve some OL or DL that is massive but they are a requirement for the sport. But lets not sleep on these players, because to be 280-300 plus and have the measurable that they have is ridiculous. A lot of these guys can run a 5./ 40 yard dash and still maintain freakish power and agility. There are defensive ends that run sub 4.7/ 40 yard dashes. And obviously there are other drills used to measure athleticism, shuttle drills etc.

What limits some football players (primarily DL/LB/ and OL) is their stamina, which is restricted purely based on size. But if we take that out of the equation the picture looks different. Look at the size of this guy here, Owamagbe Odighizuwa. Where are you going to find a guy in Futbol with these kind of measurements especially considering his size. Guy is a freak.

Well, a lot of soccer players possess all those traits while also having the endurance of ing marathon runners. The point you are missing is that only some of the NFL players are true athletes, most of them don't need to be (in fact, you don't need to be athletic to dominate the most important position in American football) while you can't sniff a soccer pitch if you aren't at very least above average athletically (and if indeed you are just above average in that regard you better be ing elite in term of skills). Either way, I'm not interested in a -measuring contest, I just want you to realize how much of an ignorant comment you were making by laughing ironically at the idea of soccer being one of the most athletic demanding sports in the World.

Well of course I was intentionally being a , that's a given. And yes Futbol players possess a lot of those traits, but not nearly at the same levels when you look at the whole picture. And I don't even know what a "True Athlete" is. And while you don't need to be an athletic freak to play some positions, in others you have to have supreme athletic ability. Just because a guy is 300 LBS doesn't mean he isn't athletic.

The nature of Futbol is very discriminatory in regards to the TYPE of athlete you must be. The type of frame you must have is very restrictive, doesn't mean the players that don't fit that mold aren't supremely athletic.

sure, but i'm just saying the distance ran is a nature of the sport. i can post a statistic that people who run the 200m run twice as much as people who run the 100m... doesn't mean the athletes are better

The ? The best player in football today is a 5'6'' guy and the second best is 6'2''. You can have 5'2'' and 6'7'' guys playing at elite level, it's not like in other sports where you need a certain body type to play it or where the type of body you have determines the position you play. Football is one of the few sports where your size isn't an impediment to play it. And I know you are referring to the fatsos that play baseball or ofensive/defensive line in football but sorry, we are talking about athletes if you are a fat you shouldn't be called an athlete.

Yeah but what's the weight of these players? I've never seen a 300LBS Futbol player. They're mostly thin, or of slight muscular build relative to their size.

It does mean that to sustain that at a high level for that long, you have to be at a certain athletic level. I don't dispute it's no proof of athletic superiority, but it does indicate that there's an elevated athletic baseline that's higher than other professional sports.

That's why they are athletes. And don't underestimate soccer players' strength, they are strongly built, specially from the waist down
