Throw some cornrows on that dude and call him Kawhi Leonard 2.0 tbqh.
Becky calls Simmons a "Fire starter" in jeff Mcdonald latest piece.
New nickname
she's just referring to her burning loins
So he could be considered a "Prodigy"?
Anyway, he's too athletic and dunks too much. Pop will ground him really quick.
Bravo!!
I'll be rooting for him this year. I'm in.
Sim City is the nickname. I like Firestarter but Drew Barrymore got there first.
Folks are comparing him to Tony Allen but he reminds me of a young Eddie Jones (Lakers version). Simmons has the some body type as Eddie & has a similar game on BOTH ends of the floor. For the youngsters, allow me to introduced you to Mr. Eddie Jones:
I've seen Gary Payton and Bowen comparisons in the other thread, and Eddie Jones/Tony Allen comparisons in this one.. that, this dunks like Vince Carter, chasedown blocks like Lebron and passes like Manu..unreal that the Spurs got him for so cheap, tbh..
Eddie Jones. Man, I forgot about him. He was a smoother athlete than Simmons, and had a bit of Jordan's glide to him. I do see Tony Allen, but then mostly in visual similarities.
You're acting surprised that the Spurs may have found another gem. All NBA player, no, but Stephen Jackson/Danny Green upside, yes.
Eddie Jones was one of my favorite players before I began to dislike (to put it mildly) the Lakers.
I finally got to see the guy play today and he looked NBA-ready with promise to do what's asked of him and maybe more. What I wonder is why has he been overlooked these past few years? He has the athleticism, speed and defensive hustle teams covet. Has he had character issues in the past? Low basketball IQ that plagued him until he started to figure things out last season? Injuries? What's been missing?
It reminds me of Hassan Whiteside situation. Right place, right time.
Tony Allen is 6'4" but strong as a bull meanwhile Simmons is 6'6" & slender. TA also doesn't have the explosiveness of Simmons nor can he hit an uncontested jumper to save his life. The similarity is their tenacity on defense & the fact they play w/ reckless abandon, I don't see that much similarity in their skillset unlike Eddie Jones/Simmons.

If he can consistently play with this kind of motor, I could see him contributing significant regular season minutes on this team.
Damn, looks like we may have someone to push Danny for the lead in chase down blocks![]()

I can't believe he rose up to dunk that ball and stick his arm halfway through the hoop on that play. Sickest thing I've seen since VC did it.
He just had a weird path. There was some kind of grade issue in HS that left him 1 class short of graduation, he bounced around to 2 different CCs, and then had a good, but not spectacular year at UH, and went undrafted. There are probably hundreds of guys like him out there, but those others accepted their fates instead of playing in the USBL and going on open tryouts for a d-league team. He never quit.
This guy continues to impress. I know he wasn't the high scorer in today's game (hat tip to KA), but he scored in a number of ways, was active on D and just plays in the system so effortlessly. I think this kid could be a real find for the Spurs. Sold on Simmons tbqh.
to be fair, 2 of those 4 were blocked...
