With the strength of this storm going beserk, it sounds like all us Texans should flee to another state. Probably Arizona is safest.
Don't be stupid: evacuate your ass ASAP
Throw a hurricanes and margaritas party
Stay there and die. I am GiG. I am insecure and take the internet way too seriously.
Gotta stay. Can't loot if you evacuate.
My boss called me this morning and said dont worry about work, just get your stuff together and be safe.

I'm still here in Pasadena. I went to work today and we were seeing evacuees all day and Red Cross was letting anyone leave early if they wanted to evacuate/plan for Rita. As the day progressed it got to the point where we had to stop the line of evacuees from coming in because there wasn't enough caseworkers anymore to see everyone. That's when I decided to leave too and figure out wtf I'm gonna do. I have no idea.![]()
My husband works at Tesoro and he said that all of their sub contractors who were from Houston took off for home today to pack up their homes and offices.
We have refugees from Clearlake and Lamarque staying with us starting tonight. They are friends who had to evacuate.
We have 3 cats and 2 dogs...they are bringing 6 cats betw them, so we will have a freaking ark.

Still in Houston and still alive.
I was up until 4am boarding up houses for friends and helping some girls get packed and get out on the road.
I am completely spent, but cant sleep or anything. Still not sure if I am leaving or where I am going.
Any of you gurus that have been watching - I just havent been able to watch since the afternoon - what do you honestly think I should do? My building is safe. I could try for SA or College Station. Maybe try for Baton Rouge. Or stay at home and tough it out. Any help?
I'd get out. Our Houston office is closed today and tomorrow.
A friend left at 4am for Dallas. Travelled 5 miles in 3 hours. Turned around to stay in Houston.
Now I think you should leave. Seriously. We need you're avatar too.
It is an 11 hour drive to Conroe right now. I have a full tank of gas, but that wont get me far enough to matter. It looks like I may be forced to stay in my apartment. I was honestly planning on going to my dad's place in CS.
at 9:00am they are making 45 and possibly 290 & 10 all outbound. I seriously think you should get out...hopefully the traffic will get better...
I am watching on the news.
I am really scared about the possibility that I run out of gas along the way and have to brave the storm in my car.
If it starts to die down, I will see where I can go.
My sister's coming out from Houston. Left there around 4am this morning. Not here yet.
on the news they said that TxDOT will have gas trucks, tow trucks, tspare tire trucks, and extra coutesy patrols along evacuation routes.......
that should help.
Good luck and be safe to all of you guys in the Texas area that are in the path of Rita!
That's awesome, I was thinking about that earlier....![]()
What are the other highays like out of Houston? I'm sure I-10 and I-35 are just as bad as I-45, but what about taking a road like Hwy 6 or 36? Or 249?
I talked to my parents and they were staying as of last night. I trust their judgment, they're pretty far from the coastal side of Houston. But I still don't think I'll be getting much work done the next couple of days.
Friend took 36 out, planning to take farm roads to SA. It took him 8 hours to go 45 miles.
I helped a bunch of people board up and get their stuff together last night. I have 3/4 tank of gas. Looks like if I try to get anywhere, I will run out of gas.
My son and I left Baytown yesterday at 3 on I-10 and it took us 8 hours to get to SA. A friend of mine went north on 59 to cut across 105 and then hit 21, and he was still on the road at 1AM. Cell phone service is spotty in that area, so I haven't heard from him. Most of the circuits are busy as well. It's crazy on the roads, but ya gotta get out. This is a killer storm, I think.
It looks like it's going slow enough where you can shift to neutral, turn the engine off, stick your foot out the door and push a little every once in a while with your foot...
