All great players need the right pieces around them to win les, even Duncan and Lebron and Jordan. I do agree that Dirk isn't as good of a franchise piece as those guys, though, for sure. I also prefer 2-way players.
That has nothing to do w/ your claim about him becoming "well-rounded".

Folks on KG for not being able to get out of the 1st rd w/ Wally playing wing-man when in 2003-04 Dirk had Jamison/Walker/Nash & lost in the 1st rd to a Kings team that was led by Bibby (Webber had shattered his knees in 2003 against the Mavs)

I thought that was a bit high but he did go to it quite often as you wish all your players would do what's unstoppable, over and over.

I don't on KG. At his peak, he was a truly complete player.

Dirk became more of a complete player in his prime (relative to his previous baseline). All players have strengths and weaknesses and need teammates who complement their skillset. These are not controversial statements.

The big boys table defend their .

    Bird
    Kareem
    Magic
    Russell
    Thomas
    Jordan
    Hakeem
    Shaq
    Kobe
    James

Everyone else has to go to the kiddie table.
Fixed. Kobe was a sh** defender; probably not even better than Dirk during the course of a 48 minute game, tbh. Bird should never be excluded unless you've decided to make a worthless list.

    Thomas

And of that modified list, Magic and Kareem were not notably good defenders either.

Gamewise and demeanor he is more Kareem. He doesnt have Bird's vision nor swagger. I do think Duncan may be the better leader than Kareem and a better scorer than Russell.
Duncan is quiet but not aloof so I don't really see the Kareem parallels. Duncan is just a private person it seems but Kareem just hates everyone. They didn't grow up I the same environment as Kareem's upbringing was in the much more tumultuous 60s and Duncan was just chilling in the islands so it's. It about Duncan being a better guy.

As for game, Kareem was the far more dominant offensive force but Duncan is much better on defense, especially team defense. Duncan was the better passer and teammate, but Kareem is easier to build an offense around.

Duncan obviously didn't have birds vision because not many people do, but Duncan has great vision for a big. Both of them directs offense fantastically as well. They have this ability to dominant the game with skills rather than athleticism.

Even though I think Luva is a wanksta and loves to spew bs about his life to make himself better about his life but I'm pretty sure he meant defending their NBA le at least one year, not as defenders.

Dirk was definitely not a one-trick pony on OFFENSE, but I think Kareem was speaking in terms of Dirk's lack of defense and shotblocking.

Either way it was a disrespectful and unnecessary comment, especially when taken in context. All he was asked was if Dirk's fadeaway was comparable to his skyhook in terms of unstoppability Kareem probably got salty at the comparison.

Also, some of you clearly need to watch video on Kareem. He was a solid passer, solid FT shooter, and he had a left hand around the basket as well.

Kareem was CLEARLY talking about his all-around game but Dirk stans got their panties in bunches b/c a legend breathed on the Great White Hope. The media is out there stirring the pot by putting words in Kareem's mouth.
