This exactly what happened when Obama was elected, remember? People out in the streets, hanging him in effigy. Calling for his assassination, burning flags.

I voted for neither Obama, Hillary or Trump, but I'm telling you; the left is acting worse. Anyone seeing something else is looking through blue glasses. The media took Trumps 10 and turned it up to 12; added hyperbole to his bad enough statements. He is: Racist, Xenophobic, phobic, Mysoginistic - and horribly so; (there is actual evidence to the contrary, but that is irrelevant). We have the anecdotes and in, and out, of context statements to prove it. We are going to say this louder and louder to get our girl elected, and if he happens to win? I hope HE is unifying. They've created this monster. Can't imagine what inauguration day is going to look like. Going to make the drive, though. Going to be my third straight.
Remember when the president elect was calling for his opponent's assassination?

Other than burning flags, we've saw all of those things directed at Obama. I'm not sure how you don't remember that. It was still going on (even intensifying) two years later with the rise of the Tea Party.
    WTF? I don't remember it?

my point was that those anti-Obama people were right wing LOSERS.

Now those same (type of) people are the WINNERS for Trash, committing those acts.

Win or Lose, the rightwingnutjobs are pro-violence.

Actually, no, I don’t remember massive demonstrations the day after the election in ’08 with Obama being hung in effigy. Must have blocked them out, but if you have a link to some video, I’d be happy to peruse it.

Okay. You win. Only a few Trump supporters have ever suggested that a Clinton victory would result in civil war. Just as only a small portion of Clinton supporters (presumably) have engaged in post-election protests.

Is "the day after" really relevant when it comes to hanging someone in effigy?

But it's not two months from now yet. It's November, Obama is still the sitting president, and the members of his party are currently out of control. The buck stops with him, and he's doing nothing to calm down the national mood other than giving empty pla udes. He says he respects the peaceful transition of power, but he's not doing anything to back it up.

    Bingo!

A lot of you have a kneejerk reaction to protests/demonstrations as though those expressions are any less protected by the First Amendment than ing on social media.

"Many" was wrong in my original post. "Some" would have been correct.

And obviously I'm not including nor condoning the violent protesters like what happened in Oakland.

And people protesting isn't what "peaceful transition of power" is about. It means that Obama is leaving the White House willingly and that his administration is cooperating with the incoming one. As far as I see, no one is fighting to keep Obama in power.

There are also fundamental geographic and age differences at play that would cause a mass urban protest of a Republican victor.

This actually makes my point. That is hyperbole. Trump did not call for Obama’s assassination, but, obviously, you COULD take his remarks as leaning that way. Or you could not, and accept his explanation. Instead, report it over and over again until it’s a fact and it happened – and then live with the results.
I had to look up to even remember what you are talking about, and found a link, also, to a speech Trump was giving in ’11. A car backfires or something, and he makes an assassination joke. He says something about not being surprised (sounded like a gunshot), “That was Obama.” The website took it as Trump saying that Obama was being shot at; I took it as Trump suggesting Obama was shooting at him. Depends on the glasses you’re wearing, I guess.
In fact, Trump’s statement about the “2nd Amendment People” being able to oust Hillary might be prophetic. I live in Western Pa. Gun rights are a big deal here; possibly even more so than in Texas, if you can believe that. All it takes to get a carry permit here is $20 and an instant check at the courthouse. Takes 10 minutes.

OK, any Obama's hung in effigy? I honestly don't remember those. Certainly not en mass walking down the streets of major cities, with no real cries of horror.

No, this is unprecedented. Never before has a large section of the country revolted at the results of a presidential election. (I visited James Buchanan’s house this past weekend).

And I want to make it clear I'm not saying it's okay for anyone to do it. I understand the need to express your anger around likeminded people but it's completely counterproductive to commit or even imply violence.

My whole point is that I dispute the idea that the hysteria of the last two days is significantly less hyperbolic than the hysteria after Obama was elected. If 2016 is illustrated more with large gatherings of protesters in cities, I believe that is more a function of where these people live, and their relative ages, than an indicator of how angry the losers were after two different results.

Or, anecdotally... in 2008 I recall being promised race riots with black people taking over the streets. Maybe would-be protesters were to scared to go outside.

I'm not running to Twitter about it if that happened now -- and I'm not even a Trump supporter. For me it's not so much embarrassment as much as it's "Why the is it everyone's business?" But if you think that intimidation and embarrassment don't play a role, I don't know what to tell you. That's a sad reality of life. That's even more true for the potential "reluctant majority" who weren't even inclined to say who they were going to vote for out of fear of ridicule.
Ok so either no republicans are experiencing this type of aggression or all of them as a whole are intimidated or embarrassed to talk about it. Got it.

all of this was happening before Trump, right on this site. Righteous indignation is palpable, cleansed only by the tears of the fallen.

People just need to take a deeps breath, sit back and relax. Just gotta let Trump do his thing. This will likely result in one of two scenarios,

    1) He self destructs and gets impeached
    or
    2) Miraculously ends up doing some positively helpful things

Personally don't see any problems with either.
