The "holier than thou" comment is a little irritating, though it sounds like Apo just tortured the actual statements.

Pop might be a bit holier than thou on his politics (or quite a bit actually), but the franchise philosophy is elevating, not condescending. They believe tanking is stupid. And you should always compete. I'm good with that. In the long run it's healthier for the franchise, even if in the short run, you get a few more wins.

Of course s like Lowe will make potshots because he doesn't measure up (most don't).
I listened to the podcast because of what was quoted here about "holier than thou"...and I don't think that was misquoted...I thought Lowe said it with an undertone of "Finally they're getting taken down a notch" (which, frankly, surprised me as I always though Lowe was pretty level-headed about things)...and then Arnovitz was eager to pile on...but it isn't just Lowe and Arnovitz...David Griffin said something similar...and Tom Ziller...and Jabari Young...and most non-SA writers. I think a lot of media people find the Spurs irritating because they just don't talk and because they don't really provide access--and that animosity is now coming out given the opportunity. But what some may see it as "holier than thou", others may see it as just a firm conviction that PATFO knows what works for them and don't feel the need to be swayed by externalities...

He only has 2 years left coaching. Now the Spurs are not contenders just enjoy the next 2 years. We are all now playing with house money.

They don't even deserve his takes, tbh. He should start charging a subscription to his takes like The Athletic.

Doesn't a man need to have a set of balls in order to have them frozen off?

"Holier than thou at ude" is toward tanking. Somebody mentioned it before. Now would the media like the Spurs to be taken down a notch? Absolutely! Especially if the Spurs don't make the playoffs this year and set a new NBA record for most playoff appearances in a row. The media would bring that up every time to give a dig on the Spurs.

But why don't the Spurs tank? Make a deal for Kawhi that was pick heavy? To me it's a very easy answer, and it doesn't have anything to do with Pop and his last year's coaching. The Spurs franchise according to Forbes is valued at 1.175 billion. That is 12th out of 30 teams. The Spurs take a nose dive for two to three years with young players only, you are going to have potential buyers circling the Spurs. My guess would be from the Seattle area first. You'd have the Seahawks owner, Amazon owner, local entrepreneurs building an ownership group to buy the Spurs and relocate it. This isn't far fetched. If you've listened to Sean Elliott say how many times DR took pay cuts and not market value to keep the Spurs in SA. That is one of the reasons, besides fielding a compe ive team, that TD, Manu, and TP did the say things with their contracts. That's why I highly doubt the Super max was offered to Kawhi Leanord.

There were two things I thought were funny. 1) loosing DR, Avery Johnson, and Sean Elliott to massive chuncks of the season in 1996-97 was considered tanking for Duncan. Yeah, those three guys are easy to replace on the fly during a season! Ask 40 year old Dominique Wilkins how that went that season, especially with a first year coach with no NBA head coaching experience in Pop! Bob Hill is fired after 5 games, and Pop sets up shop. 2) Spurs having " a rough couple years ". Before last season they won 67 and 60 games! Where is the rough?? The rough was this year with no KL/starting lineup constently turning over because of injury! And the spurs still earned 47 wins.

Yes, that's the same that guy joked, after KD signed with the warriors, that the best way to beat them is to sign 5 "players that sweat like pigs" and hope the warriors slip and injure themselves. And he thought it was funny.

But Arnovitz knows his staff. Of course, it was Duncan, that guy was the Spurs. Now we have all sorts of drama, I call it the Stephen Jackson curse. Guy comes to the team and starts messing with Manu during practices thinking some guys should be playing over him. Pop, had to cut him from the team and not long they let Jonathon Simmons go for the very same reason. Tony wanted to be traded at first, then it was LA and now Kawhi. I don't think our locker room had been that great these last few years. And good to see Pop cleaning house.

It is crazy that Seattle is left without an NBA franchise but I just don't see the Spurs moving. They have been there too long and have made too much of an impact. Couple this with the fact they are in the fastest growing state the last few years an hour to hour and a half from the fastest growing city in Austin and that now SA is growing fast right now as well. Texas is set to be an economic hub right behind California for the next generation. As long as Global Warming or a Nuclear War doesn't destroy us.

    - From their recent podcast. They're hammering the Spurs organization and making subtle shots against Pop.

    - Says their holier than thou attidue maybe and Pops desire to rather play for a playoff spot instead of rebuilding is the reason why they lost this trade.

    - Points at this current trade that the Spurs are really about maximing talent. Yes you can put systems etc but the truth is its all about the player.

What non-patfo fluffers have been saying all along.

If Pop wasnt a factor, the spurs would have amazing picks right now and probably would have gotten rid of Gasoft.
It could be worse, they could be shipped out of the country and publicly dressed down by the greatest player in NBA history while losing their shoe deal.
