Leroy Russell was 5-6 and looked like a mini The Hulk only black. He never knew his father so his mom did the best she could trying to raise the three boys and two girls and none of them looked alike, The youngest brother Ernest was tall and slender. Wynomie and Vendetta the sisters looked nothing alike.
The Russells went to Redwood, the school across town and our big rival (being the only other HS in town at that time).
Leroy ditched school most the time, he hung out with some thugs getting loaded and drunk. While the oldest brother Willie was the football star, he'd end up at Cal on a free ride. (died in prison , killed his wife)
Between Leroy's junior and senior year his mom moved in with a Doctor a Dr. Perriott, who lived on my side of town. Obviously she brought the family with her.
Not sure what happened to Leroy but he made a change, he started going to class (Mt ,Whitney) How he was able to join the football team was always a mystery. You had to have a C average to qualify. Noway he had that at Redwood.'
Anyway....
Leroy had never played organized football before. That simply didn't matter he was by far the fastest player on that team and a "natural" running back. In the first game vs Delano he scored three TD's and rushed for over 200 yards. Totally over shadowing Delano's great RB Clim Jackson ( future UCLA 13.4 hurdler). But.....before game two he sprained an ankle in practice. That sidelined him for a few weeks, and when he could run again he sprained the other ankle. His cuts were simply too sharpe.
The last game every season is THE COWHIDE game vs arch rival Redwood. Leroy would be back for this one. And he couldn't wait, being a quiet stoic type to hear him....I hate Redwood....was a bit. whoa!
Leroy put on a show. He returned the opening kickoff 90 yards to score. He returned a punt 76 yards to score, he had rushing TD's of 13, 64, 34 yards.
Final score Leroy Russell 30 (won 34 with PATS) Redwood 13.
Story goes he was contacted by Fresno State but because of his grades they wanted him to go the JC route. Visalia had COS, then there was Fresno City.
After graduation (Leroy didn't graduate) Leroy went back to hanging on the streets with that gang of losers. Last I heard of Leroy Russell he was in prison for beating a man to death who called him a .. short N.
The usa is not a "white" country. It was actually founded by ex spanish jews, Spaniards, irish, italians, germans, english, asians, etc. All these groups had a hand in building the infrastructure you'll enjoy today. Blacks did their part too. Even if it was only working, cooking and cleaning and not getting paid.

We had our USA Champs over the weekend the top three in each event on our USA team at the World Champs in Sept in Tokyo.
In the mens/womens 100/200/400 we had 18 sprints*** make the team. 18 black sprinters.
*** a couple made the 100 and 200 teams.

We have to go all the way back to 1964 and Dartmouths Gerry Ashworth to find a white sprinter on a USA Olympics 4x1 team.
They dominate a couple ty american domestic sports. Majority of the world is barely aware of their existence
