I never understood why Nando de Colo didn't work out better here. He seemed like a great fit at the time.
Super skilled but just one step too slow and too light indeed... Same as Rigaudeau a few years ago in Dallas.

Perfect for Euroleague, or your 3rd string NBA PG but Nando wants a first role, which he has In Europe as a big star.

I got a chance to see and talk to De Colo in Moscow last season... I even asked if he would consider rejoining the Spurs. His almost immediate answer was "I'm not a backup anymore". So it seems there might still be some resentment there. Spurs would have to promise him a large enough role, and PATFO typically don't like negotiating minutes upfront.

Yeah, de Colo was a better player than he showed in the NBA, but he wasn't good enough to beat out Prime Parker, Good Manu or Green for minutes. He didn't seem to want to grind in the league, which is fine. He was a good gamble for the pick they used. Anyway, he's an RFA under Toronto now. They have RoFR on any deal he negotiates with another club. Even if he were willing and able to get out of his deal in Europe, it would be hard to see him joining the Spurs this season.

Ok with White injury its time to bump this thread.

Are 2 way rookie contracts tradable? If so we should go after Keenan Evans. I watched a few Texas Tech games last year and he was a big reason they made it so far. Has a killer instinct and can shoot the ball and create for others. Not too short either at 6'3", was surprised he didn't get drafted but was picked up by golden state g league and then was picked up by the pistons on a 2 way contract.

If not we should seriously consider a trade for Cory Joseph.

Two-way contracts ARE tradeable. They count as min deals for matching purposes. There's no need to make that kind of panic trade. People will get cut.

I’d be trying to get Delly off the bucks.

He could be had for cheap, plays defence and can shoot

Oddly enough we probably need SF more than a pg. White and Belli can't help out at the wings anymore. No way we can defend any sort of quick SF committees over the course of 48 minutes a game.

Durant, LeBron, Nephew, and...well...just about any wing over 6'5 are going to destroy the Spurs this year.

When is the cut - off date for opening night rosters?

How the are they gonna find a 3rd string PG and a competent, defensive minded SG/SF in five days?

They aren't looking for a defensive wing. They don't have a spot in the rotation for such a player. As far as the PG, most teams constantly scout other teams for potential additions. It's more common in the NBA, where the bottoms of rosters are more fluid, but the same is true in all leagues as far as I know. That means that RC should have a list of players who are possible cuts that he and Pop can discuss. You don't start looking at guys after you find you have a need. You look at them first and then act on that info if you need to.

They're not going to even look, tbh. Forbes will save us with his head hanging, no defense, and zero PG skills!

Will Cherry is a free agent. Dude has a le with the Spurs from 2016. Could be worth a look. Think he played decent D during the playoffs that year.

EDIT: Here is some highlights from Cherry last year. Some D and driving. No play-making.

this, we should be behind wings, Derozan and Mills can play the point guard position until the return of White / Walker

Would not mind CoJo. He's in a contract year and provides some toughness that the current healthy guards lack. Can be off the team next season if not reupped which is fine considering the Spurs have spent recent draft picks on guards and if healthy Cujo wouldn't be needed. Wonder what a trade for him would look like. Bonus: not only knows Pops system but has played with Demar b4.

Agreed, much like how they would tackle free agency or the draft. That is why I asked when is the final cuts official so we/they could have better idea who is available.

And finding a defensive wing is less about having them for rotation purposes (doubt they would leapfrog Cunningham or Bertans) and more for roster construction/fit. They currently don't have a defensive minded wing and I see Pondexter as less than a fringe player.
