Interesting that Daulton and Dedric are there to participate in training camp and J Ledbetter and Matt Farrell are not.

Daulton and Dedric look the part of players the Spurs put through their pipeline. Daulton is way too light to guard actual powerforwards and in a way reminds me of Bertans...except better at driving to the basket with way more athleticism. Dedric looks like that guy we let go to Memphis and is now with the Clips.

Any way, i think both of these guys are putting Metu's job in danger. Not Eubanks or Quinndary.

Seems set that the Spurs are making it clear that DJ will be a cornerstone and Lonnie will get lots of playing time. That line up will sure be fun to watch.

    Dejounte / White / Quinndary
    Bryn / Lonnie / Mills
    DeMar / Carroll / Belinelli / Keldon
    Aldridge / Gay / Lyles / Samanic / Daulton
    Poetl / Eubanks /

Best the Spurs could afford after paying 50 Mills. Just do like I do and keep telling yourself, "At least he's not Pau Gasol.".

he didn’t want to stay in San Antonio. He is Californian. Not matter how hard SA would have tried, he would have left to go back to Cali. People don’t want to understand that SA is a boring city and a small market
I dont understand how people STILL dont get this.

It was evident at the time, its evident more than ever right now...

I mean...he just won a championship and that team would have given anything to keep him....location was everything....as we already knew.

a Murray/Walker/DeRozan/Gay/Aldridge line up should be fun if we're trying to run with other teams to increase the pace

Leave the city out of it. This is a GREAT, laid back place to live and raise a family. Many of the Spurs' former players, including HOF'ers (Gervin, Duncan, Manu, Tony, Elliott, Johnny Moore), still live here. WTF does that tell you? Kawhi isn't a for wanting to play in his home state, he's a for the way he went about it. Totally unprofessional and juvenile.

He is about to start his second year. That and our power forwards are Rudy Gay and Demarre Carroll. Him and Samanic would be a great set of replacements when Gay and Carroll are probably done in 2 years.

Lot of people questioning about the starting lineup, but remember it's not about the starting lineup, it's about the closing lineup. Where i think White will get solid mins at. I'm fine with Dj/Forbes starting of the season, and white in the 2nd unit. with Forbes in In the starting rotation, it creates more space and he's a beast from 3. White will mostly succeed with the 2nd unit, he's one of those player that excel with the ball in his hand, which he will have with the 2nd unit, this all sets up Mills.

People don't give LaMarcus enough credit. He's the reason the Spurs weren't in the lottery the last two seasons. Glad he's a Spur.

Metu doesn't even look like an end of the roster player, let alone someone who will replace a player who actually plays NBA minutes.

Idk. I think we should give him a little time. Hes athletic, fast, and a good rim protector. In a system where the ball moves well, I can see him being a solid rotation player and rim protector.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's cut during training camp. He's shown absolutely nothing. He's woefully undersized, can't shoot & gets pushed around in the paint. The Spurs aren't going to wait two years for him to figure things out when he doesn't provide any value.

I'll preface to say I'm biased as I very much like Metu the guy due to his great bench-exuberance that's been a hallmark of the roster for many many years.
That said if it's the 15th spot we're debating that shouldn't be, and is not a roster position that will break an NBA team, imo.

Better to keep sheer raw talent that you can hone even if it's over several years. Let's give the man more time to develop.
We got 10 players under the age of 27, 8 of them 24 or younger. Their team chemistry could pan out big time in the early '20s.

I'd like to interject some observations about last year and Demar

DeRozen(aka De Frozen) was expected to replace leonard last year but our backcourt exploded and he has to be a playmaker, leading scorer, as well as front court rebounder. A lot has been said about the drop off in Dfense but it picked up at the end of the year but alot was thrust on DDR and played 77 games and a TON of minutes and rest days were NIL.

But he did average 21.2 pts 6.0 TRB and 6.2 Ast
    and by the numbers
When He had more than his average rebounds spurs winning % was .655
When He had his average rebounds .705

When He had more than his average assists Spurs winning % was .764
When he had his average assist .738

He was above his average in only Mid to low 20 of games
and he was hitting averages in about 40 games

If he had been able to get his average in all his games using this metric the spurs are probably winning 55+games last year and end up with the best record in the west, but that is MVP stuff and we haven't had a guy with MVP type stuff since Prime Duncan.

So if Murray and White take off and fill up what he did as a play maker last year

If Carroll can help out on the Front Court rebounding side this team, injury normal instead of injury Agro like last year, is gonna win 54+ games.

If Pop is what he is supposed to be(the GOAT or one of them) and this team chemistry comes together spurs have a great shot of finishing top 3 this year if not top 2 with Clippers odds on favorites for 1st.

I don't believe the Lakers Hype(they signed Skinny Dwight Howard....>took his HIV test post tyranny...must have got an F<.. DESPERATION)

How are the Warriors gonna do ANYTHING when they trended down with a Dream Team Last year?

Unless Portland, Utah, or Denver is THAT MUCH on the Come up.

Just some "Random thoughts" entering into this season after watching all of the Media Day Stream
I agree with you on a lot of things. The thing to bank on this year is that the young guys make a leap while the vets keep up their production.

DeRozan would be a very good player if he could hit 3s and I expect him to get back to the level of his last year in Toronto where he shot slightly over 30% from 3. That improves the spacing of the offense overall and his minutes should decrease a little.

LaMarcus will be LaMarcus but this time he won't need 20 games to get in shape, he seems to be in great shape already. He should also get occassional rest

I think Rudy's production will remain the same, Pop should rest him a couple of times since he seemed to flame out in last years playoffs.

I think Carrol can improve his numbers, he had solid stats on the Nets but his shooting % was bad. I think that's mostly due to the Nets not having a lot of offensive threats. He'll get more efficient shots in the Spurs system.

Poeltl should have some new moves on offense and improve his FT%

Seeing Lonnie in summer league makes me think he can score 10 off the bench on the regular. Defense should improve as the season progresses.

White should be the version he was by the end of last season/playoffs. A 15/5 guy but with an improved 3-point shot.

I think Murray will be a Livingston type on offense. Midrange is money according to Forbes and I think he will score a lot out of post ups as well. 3-point shooting might still need some work, but he'll at least shoot them. If teams start to respect his jumper this will open up the driving lanes for him and he will have to work on getting to the rim and drawing fouls.

All the young guys will be much better by the end of the season.
The chemistry should give the Spurs a head start. This should be a huge advantage especially playing the LA teams early in the season.

The Clippers are definitely better and also a deep team, but the Lakers don't scare me. They don't have any guards who can break down the defense. Rondo and Danny Green? One can't shoot the other one can't dribble. They will play extremely slow and they got Dwight on the bench. LeBron is older and AD is injury prone and hasn't really done upto now.

The Dubs have no bench, all they got is Steph, Russel and Draymond. Their C's suck, their SF's suck and their bench is a bunch of G-League scrubs.

The Rockets have 2 of the biggest chokers as their starting guard duo and are coached by D'Antoni.

Jazz, Nuggets and Blazers should be strong, but I think this team can go toe to toe with them. 3rd seed could be realistic, but it all depends on how good the young guys develop

The thing is, with that tool set, he should have dominated in the g-league. His numbers were pretty pedestrian for a low level of basketball. 14pts (OK) 7.1 boards(4th on Austin) 1.3blk 0.7st. Nothing jumps off the page at you, and IT SHOULD. He should be dunking everything, and have a 60 FG%, not 49. He should be swatting everything in sight.

Not doing what they usually do when they're thin at a particular position, which is bringing in some veteran retread to compete for the spot, signals that Metu is safe and that they're relatively high on him and/or Eubanks.

I'll preface to say I'm biased as I very much like Metu the guy due to his great bench-exuberance that's been a hallmark of the roster for many many years.

Considering the rookies have virtually no shot at playing much this season, it's more like the 13th spot, but more than that, it's the third center role since him and Eubanks are the only candidates to fill it.

Nice breakdown. I think Spurs got a good shot at a Top 4 seed in the West. Depends on a lot of things you and others mention as coming through, but definitely a possibility.
