How many elite shooters are also gym rats / physical freaks?

This is what makes Nesmith appealing to me.

I would love for him to be a gym rat, physical freak. But is that what this video shows?

    I guess it's just a standard workout.

I think very few have his physique though.

I am not sold on him at 11. His spot up shooting is phenomenal, but I’ve seen too many videos of him driving through traffic and falling down or getting overwhelmed or blocked, and this is against SMU level compe ion, if not literally SMU. I’ve seen him with some impressive explosive blocks, even from behind a la Danny Green, but this athleticism doesn’t translate when he drives to the rim.

I understand no one expects him to be a slasher, but I don’t project him to be anywhere near serviceable in the future in that regard, and so I think that has to limit his ceiling overall.

I’ll give you that. Maybe your guy Jalen?

Speaking of Jalen. Obviously he isn’t exactly the three point shooter that Aaron is, but he shoots well enough and brings so much more to the table, and he would still stretch the floor, and likely more than Aaron because he’s a big. That’s my roundabout endorsement for Jalen, even if he isn’t my preferred choice.

Can he play the 3/4 full time? Have not read much about him. Would not make sense to draft another guard
    No, he's a 2/3 more than a 3/4.

Despite that I wouldn't be mad with this pick. I've seen a lot of folks saying his defense sucks but that's not what I saw, tbh. He's no lockdown defender but he can hold his own. And he has some deceptive hops when going for weak side blocks, tbh. He wouldn't be a liability ala Belinelli by any means.

The SL definitely needs more firepower. I'm all for Nesmith if Williams/Kira are off the board at 11

Aaron is long. I could be wrong but I feel he will surprise people with his measurements. I think he has legit (old-school) SF size.

The only way I could get on board with him at 11 is with a guarantee that Forbes is gone next year. And having just written that, I could live with that, definitely.

In a Zoom call with NBA reporters, Vanderbilt's Aaron Nesmith mentions the Spurs as one of five teams for whom he has participated in a pre-draft workout.

Didn't realize a new video of him was posted by Hardwood Hoops Central.

I think Nesmith will surprise during the combine. Eye test could be wrong but he looks taller and longer than Vassell. We will see.
Seems he’s finally coming around. He’s of the few I was high on during this draft (Haliburton the most, unfortunately Jalen Smith, and then this guy). There were other guys in this class who are still in the league (Stewart, Precious, Deni) , thankfully.

The question is who will be better going forward between Vassell and Nesmith? Will Nesmith continue trending up and Vassell will get worse?

I think with Nesmith was on the Spurs and Vassell on the Pacers it would be the same tbh. Vassell's defense fell off a cliff due to tanking mostly. Nesmith would probably be out of the league by now being coached by late Pop.

I was beating the drum for the Spurs to somehow trade for Nesmith earlier this season when IND was kind of struggling and Nesmith was coming back from injury... big fan of his. He'll be relatively untouchable IND now as he's on a bargain contract.

But... I'm glad this got bumped, but it's worth point out that Stephon Castle is around the same size as Nesmith and Jalen Williams, with the exception that Jalen has about +4" of wingspan on each of these guys, which obviously is quite significant. Outside of that, each were around the same height and weight coming out of school, except Nesmith was 1 year old and Williams 1.5 years older.

Of course, both of these guys are better shooters than Stephon right now.

With that said, I think Castle has plenty of size to be our SF alongside Fox and Harper, if he can develop that shot. He's a hard worker and his form has good foundations, so I'm buying.

Nesmith was a .522 3P% shooter and .825 FT% his final ear at Vandy, FYI... and Jalen was a .396 3P% shooter his last year at Santa Clara, so these guys weren't the shooting project that Steph is.

glad you pointed this out because I've been telling people that the triumvirate of Halliburton, Nesmith and Nembhard physically resemble what the spurs would have in Fox, Harper and Castle. Granted, they are better shooters but the point is that there are teams that can successfully run three players with this sort of size on the court at the same time. and although the Pacers have better shooters, the Spurs potential trio would be better than the Pacers at getting to the rim (with the exception of Halliburton). A stretch four would be of great value to the Spurs, of course.
