Pelicans are tanking hard as they have pretty much given up on Zion ever playing for them
The team “goes” when it gets a solid contribution from each starter. There has been so many nights the Spurs got zero from many players that I’m glad they’re showing up now.

Triple double from DJ... almost triple double from D-White.. 24 and 12 from Jakob... we have a pretty nice team!
Yeah 24 and 12 for poeltl is excellent!!!
Great boxscore. Two of the three D-leaguers combined for 1 min PT and the goofy one only had 14 mp. Must've been a great game to watch
I’m thrilled that the team is winning and guys are showing improvement!!! But there is a part of me that is worried about these wins effecting our draft position lol
Draft position? This team could go over .500 in January or February.
lol 4 page game thread
The League is super tight right now tho we’re just 2 games up on the worst team in the western conference in the win column, all it takes is a losing streak lol I’m not advocating for tanking, I want us to win but it would be nice to end the Season with a top 7 pick
LMAO which goofy one
Pop really wanted to win tonight
It really doesn't... He is one of the 3 best players on the team... We have so little talent that when one of the 3 doesn't ppaye well, we almost never win... If Murray has a bad game, which he rarely does, we lose... We have been losing because White has had horrible games most of the season... If we were to go as he goes, we would be a perennial lottery team, because he is incredibly inconsistent, and he isn't young anymore... This is who he is
28% of 25 3pts attempts, and 19 fouls, is normally not going to the job. I like the 31 assists though, and that 66 pts in the paint with White penetrating and dishing to a cutting Poeltl. And I like that Poeltl has been throwing them down on some. DJ’s triple-doubles is nice, but I rather him scoring more than just 10 pts. I hope he’s not stat padding like Westbrook. I don’t want to be a party pooper, but Spurs easily could have lost this game to a better team.

Pelicans really know how to tank. They are going to get a nice, high lottery pick. I wonder who we'll be taking at 13 or 14.
Can we talk about Landale getting absolutely blown away by BI on his one defensive assignment tonight. Landale makes Bonner look like Ben Wallace.
All that decade-long tanking has really led them to somewhere special.
Yes, but our efforts to win the last three years have also led to no where. And we continue to go no where. Good enough to be at the end of the lottery is not a good position to be in.
I remember many years ago during the early 00s Tom Tolbert was covering the NBA draft and had a line for the Clippers when speculating who the Clippers would pick which was "So whose career are they going to destroy tonight." I apply this to the Pelicans.
I feel unfortunately whether you decide to tank or decide to win it's all just a game of chance when it comes to drafting a superstar and actually having a winning franchise. You can end up with the number 1 pick and get a great prospect like an Anthony Davis and not being able to successfully build around that player like the Pelicans were not able to do so. Look at the Twolves they have gotten 3 number 1 picks in the last several years in Wiggins, Kat, Edwards and despite that are only 1 game above the Spurs in the standings.
They will just draft another big man empty stat guy like AD or they will draft an obese shooting guard who won't play for them like Zion
Right, but there is a better path for the Twolves to make the playoffs in the near future than there is for the Spurs. They are a more talented team. Drafting is always about luck, but the earlier you pick, the better shot you have to chose the person you want over the person that falls to you when you are drafting. And the Spurs have been fairly good at developing talent. Maybe Zion or Davis or Kat or Wiggins, or Edwards turns into something more than they are right now with a competent training staff like the Spurs have. You can't really compete for a le again until you have a special player and statistically, the best chance of that is picking in the top 3-5.

I agree that the higher you pick the better the chance of getting a superstar prospect but it's also not guaranteed. You could also end up drafting at a lower spot and end up with a Curry, Kawhi, Giannis, Jokic who ended up becoming the best players of their draft class. I think drafting is more tricky today then it was in the past where you had guys who were automatic superstars in Duncan, Robinson, Shaq, from the time they were rookies. You have to now wait a few years for them to develop properly.
We would not be much better than where we are now even if we got top 3 to 5 picks for consecutive years if we keep picking 6'5 and shorter players and try to play them at 1-4.
We’ll take 6 wins in 9 games. Team’s playing pretty well.
