No but a guy named Devin Brown did.

This guy is Devin and Jackson combined.

    Mark my words.

How much have you seen of JR Smith?
Quite a bit a couple years ago when he was the man.

The kid is a stud, and a future all star.

Smith has potential and with Manu and Finley the spurs can take a flyer on a SG with potential, it doesn't solve the need as SF but maybe the spurs have another deal for that. Smith is a cheap, low risk experiment that the spurs could end after just one season and right now we're stuck with barry's contract for the next 2 years at over 10 million dollars. That's alot for a 3rd string SG.

Barkley always said he was lucky to go to a team (76ers) that had alot of veterans who could show him the way, how to be a star, be a man, etc. Putting Smith on the spurs with Fin, Tim, and Horry could have that same effect where JR grows up realizes his potential. Maybe not but it's worth the risk and in the end the spurs still save a load of money.

no his rookie year when he got a BUNCH of playing time.

    Devin Brown did??
I believe Brown wasn't the most punctual nor the hardest worker, when he was with the Spurs and when Elie was coaching.

That's a major reason they got rid of him, eh?

Devin was late and called in "sick" on occasion to practice. But the main reason they got rid of him was concerns regarding his back.

However, he never just didn't come to practice (without even calling) like JR Smith has made a habit of doing.

I know Scott sucks when relating to young players, but I think the Spurs should look to move Barry to get a forward or a backup point guard before they go for a shooting guard.

Barry for JR Smith was a salary dump trade when Barry was whiffing and sucking. Now he's playing better and the Spurs have gotten rid of Rasho's salary. Why revisit it now?

That all being said, I wouldn't mind JR Smith here. Eventually the Spurs need to pickup some young, athletic guys.

But with 11 roster spots filled and Javtokas reportedly coming to make 12, I think if the Spurs make moves it should be for a forward and a point guard.

JR would be first and foremost a salary dump. If he develops into a useful player it's gravy.

How much have you seen of JR Smith?

He doesn't shoot well (sub 40 percent), can't rebound, doesn't pass, etc. I know he's a good athlete with some potential if he actually shows up to practice. But I don't get why Spurs fans have a collective hard-on for him. Barry isn't a career scrub. The Spurs might be able to get more than JR Smith for him (maybe, maybe not). But I just don't understand why Spurs fan are dying for Smith.

Everyone compares Smith to SJax's situation with NJ, but I don't think it's the same. SJ complained about playing time and whined/rolled his eyes about being at the end of the bench, but he didn't disrespect the coaching staff like JR has.

JR has refused to come to practice. Refused to come to meetings with the coaches. Shown up to practice with only 10 or 15 minutes left and not addressed the coaches or his teammates and just shot alone at the other end of the gym.

    SJax never behaved like that.
I am a HUGE Barry homer but even I am for this trade. Think about it Kori...I know JR isnt a long 3 but he is a 20-21 year old who has a ton of upside for a cheap price and we will be dealing a 34 year for him. If we screw around trying for other options that could be very risky and this situation may not occur again. Yeah he has issues with his coach but this is the friggin Hornets (crappy ownership and have been lottery bound which doesnt make the situation better) and their coach hasnt had all that great of luck with rookies. Cory Dillon didnt cause when he joined the Pats now did he?? Not saying this is a guarntee to occur but he is cheap and Barry isnt getting younger. Plus his actions wont be tolerated here but it could be a nice steal if he plays to his potiental and matures and no better place to do it then the Spurs! If you have a chance to deal a 34 year old role player for a 20-21 year old who is cheaper with potiental..you do it!!

Yeah I would agree with all that, if the Spurs didn't have any other needs. If I'm the Spurs I would still look to dump Barry for a player they desperately need (an athletic forward or a point guard) before JR Smith.

It all comes down to, what true long, 6'9-6'10 SF is available? Realistically? Jared Jefferies, Rashard Lewis, Jalen Rose...who else?..I don't see what SF we could trade Barry for...the Barry for Smith/Macijauskas trade would be a very good move on the Spurs part..we get an influx of youth & atleticism in Smith & hopefully, if Macijauskas is included we get a dead-eye 3 point shooter, while also losing Barrys contract....one player that I wouldn't mind, if we could trade with Phoenix again, would be James Jones..6'8, SF ..can shoot, rebound & block..he's on a reasonable contract making about $2.5 mil. for the next few years & the Suns might be looking to trade him to free up money for TT this year & Diaw next year...not sure if we would trade with Phoenix or vice versa, but JJ would seem like a good fit & he MIGHT be available.

I'd like to see Macijauskas in that trade.

Macijauskas' shot has sucked so far in the NBA (small sample size, I know). I think maybe he's too slow (and has too low of a release) to get off his shot in this league.

The problem I have with Macijauskas is he's expensive. Not terribly expensive, but it may be dead weight if he doesn't contribute anything.

He did seem a lot better in Europe, but he brought a lot of energy with what little PT he got here. I would like to see what he could do with more minutes. Who knows - maybe Pop would give him some time at 3rd PG. Scott certainly isn't going to do anything with him.

For the minimum, I'd agree. I don't know if I'd want to pay him 2.5M though.

Oh, no! But if the guy wants another chance to prove himself here, he's probably going to have to take the minimum. He hasn't proven himself enough for more than that.

There had to be some type of interest from the Spurs for Macijauskas..he was part of the original deal...I think he could really blossom with all the double teams on Timmy..he just needs the time..he is a little expensive at $2.5, but its for 2 years only & he would be off the books in 08' which is when we need him to be off the books.
