Yup, it was common practice back then...
And every dominant culture has also had slavery in it's past...Of course few can match the Aztecs concept of using slaves for human sacrifices.
The first great Slave Nation was based in Africa..it was called Egypt and they enslaved those Jews you hate so much.
And by the way, Washinton also freed every single slave he owned by the end of his life, 60 years before the Civil War....a very uncommon practice at the time...
If Slavery is such an issue to you...
Just know, the Democrats, backed by the French, fought against ending Slavery during the civil war.
The Republicans fought to end it...
Actually..even that would not have been possible if John Quincy Adams, an unpopular son of a President, who did not win the popular vote, had not lead a campaign to repeal a law that prevented even the discussion of ending slavery.
Furthermore...80% of Republicans supported the 1964 Civil Rights amendment...A Democrat, Al Gore Senior, fillibuste4red for 79 days against it. Every southern democrat voted against it.
If slavery is an issue...why support the party that founded the KKK?
