Sandra and the Sodomizers, a great Southside band that performs onstage while wearing strap-ons.
Them or the Ramones have my top vote.
I had them in my original top-10, but changed my mind. If you are talking about pure impact upon the culture and albums sold, then perhaps, but if you're talking about skilled and innovative musicians who delve into complicated chord progressions and vocal stylings, then I don't think they fit the criteria.
I'm as big a fan of Nirvana as any - LITERALLY as I have a shrine (books, framed pics, framed albums and records, headlines) to them in my guitar room and did a college paper on the 27 club and one on why Kurt was murdered - but they were very simple with their rythems, rhymes, ability and approach.
Hey, I'm fine with it. It worked, but when I think about great musicians, I do not think of Nirvana.
Unfortunately, impact on the culture and album sales do not equate greatness, else bands like Nsync or the Backstreet Boys would up there with any.
Nirvana was all at ude and the at ude conveyed the message. A great band's music isn't overshadowed or muted by said band's at ude.
Nirvana = Music for the sake of music
Alice in Chains = Music for the sake of art
That's the difference twixt good and great music, with impact not being the main factor.
i can't believe i forgot about them, but funkadelic is one of the best rock groups ever, especially when eddie hazel was on lead guitar - maggot brain is a masterpiece (album and song).
The Ramones would be tops. Second for me would be Ozzy's Black Sabbath followed closely by Pearl Jam.
Rage, the Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age and Green Day should not even be mentioned.
1# Ramones
2. Red hot chili peppers (especially when they still did drugs)
3. Rage against machine.
Oh and Queen is one of the most annoying bands ever. Cant stand it. Definately the worse part of the spurs winning their championships is knowing they have to play that crappy song right after they win.![]()
Queen by a million miles.
Slayer
Raised on the Godfather and the Rude Awakening, I see.
My favorite bands of all time, and bands that stand up to the test of time:
Jimi Hendrex Experience
The Who
Led Zep
Queen
AC/DC
The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
CCR
The Eagles
Pearl Jam
AC/DC
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
U2
Honestly, how can anyone like the Red Hot Chili Peppers??
i second that.
ZZTop
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Molly Hatchet
