Official UFC 66 Thread...

Ken's prime was pretty long ago but he was a great fighter back in the day. They've released UFCs 1-6 on DVD so you can check out some of his old fights there. Just avoid the Superfights that he had with Royce Gracie and Dan Severn. These are 30 minute long snoozefests and there's really no reason to put yourself through watching them. I can't remember exactly which UFCs these were on but it should tell you on the DVD boxes.

After reading this thread, it would seem a few still think Tim S is the best HW in the UFC.

BTW, whatever happened to that Wunderkind Russian youngin' that was supposed to go unbeaten & tear thru the UFC?

The rumors of Aleksanders E's switch to UFC never came to fruition. Too bad. He would have been a great addition to the division. But things are looking much better now that Crocop is in the mix.

No, I think Werdum is a couple of spots below those champs. But hold on Mr. Dio. Those aren't even the best the HW's in UFC, right? Isn't Vera the best? Is Werdum ranked below The Truth? I'm sure he is being that Werdum is just a "bush league" fighter.

Kongo can't do . He has standup skills, but absolutely zero takedown defense. And after he gets taken to the ground, he is useless. If Carmelo Marerro can control him on the ground, think of what someone like Gabriel Gonzaga would do to him. He would get subbed in 2 minutes.

I agree with you on Vera. I hope Kongo will develop into a major player because I really enjoy his style but I'm not counting on it at this point. His ground game and td defense just looked so weak in his last fight. That could improve in time though.

In regards to Vera and Werdum, I feel that Werdum is better for the same reason that he's ranked higher; he's proven himself against a higher level of compe ion. And like I said earlier, for whatever reason the Aleks to UFC deal never worked out. I have no idea why. I just know that I was disappointed because more talent in the HW division would be a great thing for us fans. Fortunately, Crocop is a better addition than AE and it shows that the UFC wants top level talent and they have $$$ to make it happen.

Very true. It seems like a step down from Pride. But a high level match is high level match no matter where it is. I don't know why he would stray from Pride though. Maybe that particular smaller org offered him a big paycheck for the AE fight. I don't really know.

Aleks E coming over ended up being just a rumor. Him signing to fight with Bodogfight in Russia in March might've had something to do with that not happening. WHo knows...

Bush league?? 2H2H is a feeder league for Pride. Hardly "bush league"...

My first PPV and it was pretty good.

Leben is junk. Dude doesnt even looks like he trains. "Hands of brick" my ass. His punches are slow and completely inaccurate.

I like Lidell, but I was hoping for a better fight. The ref stoppage was legit, like Dan said, laying in the fetal position is not "intelligently defending yourself".

I was surprised with the Griffin loss. Although Leonard may think he is overrated, I think he may be underrated. Jardine is no joke. He has holes, but he is a solid fighter both on his feet and on the ground. Griffin shoulda, coulda, woulda....bottom line, he got knocked out (and didnt take it too well either).

Good card all around though. That Alva fight was BORING! ugh...so boring. Looked like Alva could have really put the pain on DeSouza, but had too much respect to kill him (as he could have). The Gonzaga dude put on a ground clinic. Was it the compe ion that made him look so good? World les in BJJ speak to the fact that he just may be capable of putting on a similar clinic against much better compe ion. Bisping owned, not that I expected much else. Lets see what he does against some quality. MacDonald is Canadian, therefore has an inferiority complex and therefore when trying to talk "tough" comes across like a pussy ("Im not a stepping stone!"). GSP even sounds goofy when he talks junk, its a Canadian thinkg I guess (although GSP can more than back it up, , he can carry it up 30 flights of stairs).

Im not interested in seeing Rampage and CroCop in the next PPV. Theyre fighting 2nd tier talent and should win very quickly and very handily. When they start moving up the rankings, I will be more than interested, I'll be exstatic.

Muscle does not equal a fight deciding advantage. If it did, Jeff Monson would be heavyweight champ. Strength/muscle is only a small component of the game. A perfect example of this would be the greatest fighter in the world, Fedor Emelienanko, who most people would describe as pudgy and undersized for a heavyweight.

o fought a really good fight against Chuck. There are not many guys that could have survived the beating he took at the end of round 1 and then come back to win the 2nd round. All you have to do is look at Chuck's record he is crushing everybody that is put in front of him. This is the first fight Chuck actually was pushed and tested in like 2 years.

Hey neck, I order every UFC PPV...what are you talking about me not knowing there are other org's? Did you watch K-1 Dynamite over the weekend? Or did you even watch Shockwave?? I intend on watching WEC, Elite XC, Gracie FC, Bodog, etc too...

Of course rankings are subjective and vary some, but MMAWeekly is the most commonly used in the MMA community. (Sherdog doesn't do rankings)
