silva-lutter really upset me. i wanted lutter to win but if he cant cut 2 pounds in 2 hours thats pathetic. i had to do that all the time in high school wrestling. i guess they dont eat/regulary. anyway im glad silva won so franklin or swick can have a le shot. i always thought silva was classy but he was a jerk after the fight.

The thing was, Lutter dropped about 20 lbs. during two or three days before the fight. He didn't have another pound and a half left to drop. Cro-cop was great, though. Nice to finally see a real heavyweight in the UFC.

Martin/Rivera - literally, I went to the bathroom to pee and missed the entire fight. WTF?

I thought this was a good UFC.

Cro cop was awesome as always. Sanchez was scared, and understandably so. Cro-Cop looked like a cold killer in there. No surprise at the outcome.

Lutter did alot better than the great majority of people predicted he would. So many were doubting that he would even have a chance to get Silva down. Well, he got a few takedowns, even putting Silva in a precarious position in the first roung getting a full mount and reigning down punches. I have to wonder how the match would have gone had Lutter not drained himself from cutting weight. You could tell that armbar attempt on Silva after the mount was sloppy, as well as his overall movements during the fight. Good job by Silva by ending the fight with BJJ. It's definatley better for the UFC that Silva won, but I would have loved to see a match where Lutter would have come prepared and have no problems in making weight and be 100% in the octagon.

Huerta made quick work of Halverson. Rogan was stupid on making a definative statement that Huerta hit Halverson in the head with a knee. It was clear on the last replay they showed that Halverson was hit on the shoulder instead. LOL at Huerta's comment saying that it wasn't his fault that Halverson wanted to play possum. In my opinion, it was a move when Halverson told Joe Silva that the knee hit his head.

As far the Griffin/Edgar fight, WOW! I knew Griffin had skill but I had never seen Edgar fight before. I thought he'd be one dimensional as a wrestler, but he showed he had great boxing skills by throwing accurate combination counter punches. Also, he controlled Griffin on the ground much of the time and had some great reversals. Rogan again speculated on something which didn't appear to be true after replay review. He was wondering why Mazagatti didn't stop the fight after a supposed knee to the groin, and told Griffin to fight on. They unfortunatley never showed a slow motion replay, but I watched it several times and Edgar's knee was well above Griffin's beltline. No controversy though, because Griffin himself said that Edgar deserved the win. Both guys should be commended for a great fight. Edgar showed a ton of heart and will for not tapping at the end!

I knew the Smith vs. Cote fight was going to be a good one. Cote played it safe at the end of the 3rd round and always clenched because he didn't want to trade with Smith, who knew he had to make something happen. I can't say that I blame him. As we saw against Sell, Smith can knock you out at anytime!

Rampage put on a pretty good showing against a tough opponent. Also, Terry Martin lost some weight! Tough break for Rivera, he's a good guy. Despite the mismatches, I thought the night was pretty exciting.

Vera and Arlovski aren't real HWs?
The wrestling, pride and Truck/Tractor pull crowd is soooo knowledgable.

Talk about needing to get in the kitchen and stick to knitting!
What were the comments on the board about 'necks and how little they know about the sport???

Crocop, Silva, Rampage, Huerta, Cote, Machida, Griffin, Martin, Hazelett are my picks...
8/9...easy card to pick really. I can't believe Griffin lost though...

Some of the comments in this thread are beyond any level of stupidity that I've ever seen...you know who you are...

Cote-Smith was "OK". But now the UFC fans boo when there's a clinch against the fence?? Not just when a fight goes to the ground. Wow. Then of course they boo'd Cote since he's Canadian. What a disgrace...

Rampage looked pretty good...definitely a slow start due to nerves...fighting in front of family and friends with a ton of pressure on him to come in and be the man. Not a big deal since he was fighting a B or C level fighter instead of an A level fighter like the ones that have kicked his ass 3 times in "kiddie land" since he beat Chuck. He'll be a little better next time. I'd like to see him fight Rashad or Jardine, or even Forrest. Get another win and get one of the pretenders out of the way. WTF was Goldberg talking about with Rampage possibly fighting o? Um, no...Rogan basically told him that would never happen. And what do you know!? More boo'ing by the drunken redneck crowd...simply amazing. It's pretty bad when fighters and commentators are even addressing it now. Even Dana at the press conf called out the drunken idiots that don't understand the sport...

Halverson - Huerta...eh, whatever. Another loss by a MFS fighter...

While building up to the Crocop fight Rogan mentioned that CC had won the Pride Open Weight Grand Prix in 2006 he looks off camera to somebody, gives the Rogan bug eyes "whoops" look, then has a "sorry about that" look and goes back to talking with Goldberg. He let the P word slip...lol. This was also the first time I've ever heard the UFC acknowlede that Fedor exists...lol

Goldberg to Couture in the booth just before the CC fight..."Good time to come back as a HW, eh Randy?" hahaha...I think Randy was offended by that...

Glad to see Crocop didn't sellout and wear some long shorts with Xyience all over them. He brought the checkered shorts and when he came out to the Pride music I was laughing my ass off...what a moment.

Poor Eddie never had a chance. That was like watching a Lion play with a little bunny rabbit before devouring it. A few of those kicks were so freakin' loud...very cool to hear the crowd reacting to them with "Ohhhhhhhh"...and wow, no boo'ing for the foreign fighter. What a surprise...

Gotta love CC in the post-fight interview...

Rogan: Mirko walk us through your fight.
    Mirko: ...........
    Rogan: uh... moving on

It seems pretty obvious that CC (as he's shown in the past) is only in the UFC for the money. I don't think he gives 2 $hits about where he fights or who he fights. He knows that taking the UFC HW belt isn't that big of a deal when you look at the talent he's faced in Pride. , everybody knows it...Rogan, Dana, etc...all Dana talks about now is how he's going to "get them all" and have all oft he best fighters. I'll bet Tim Sylvia was a LITTLE bit pissed watching UFC 67 ringside...

At the post-fight press conference, Dana was asked why Crocop wasn't there. The reporter says something like "You know you're paying millions of dollars to Crocop, you'd think he'd at least show up to the press conferences." And Dana replied "I agree, I absolutely agree" (emphatically). Then some lady says "Well, he does that with all other promotions too, it's not just the UFC." And Dana replied "Yeah well, I'm a little grumpier than other promoters, so we'll see who wins this. Crocop and I already butted heads on this yesterday." And then at the end he said "But yeah, as a promoter it is seriously ing frustrating, and we'll just have to see what happens". But he did admit that most people will like Crocop whether he attends the press conferences or deals with the media or not, based on the cheers he got when he entered the arena. He acknowledges that people really just want to see who the best fighters in the world are, and makes the analogy with boxing where there are some really mean boxers that are really talented but have no personalities and don't like to deal with anybody.

Anyway, it's all in the UFC 67 post-fight press conference:
    http://video.boxingscene.com/filess/ufc67pf.wmv

Oh and Dana was also asked what was with Crocop coming out to Pride theme song, and Dana said he approved it but assured everyone that he certainly would never have suggested that but he respected Crocop's request and allowed it anyway.

Can the UFC please update Anderson Silva's height?? He and Lutter were listed at 5'11" and Silva was at least 2" taller...

Silva didn't look that great, but he showed that he does have some ground skill. Lutter getting stuck in a triangle for a minute and half and eventually tapping to strikes was perfect justice for him missing weight. They better sign a stud ground fighting MW like Filho or Silva will be the champ for a long time. He's head and shoulders above the division right now. I like guys like Swick and Marquardt but I don't see them beating Silva...

Also, Silva had surgery on both knees 11 weeks ago according to Joe Rogan (posted on the UG forum Sunday morning)

    From: Joe Rogan
    Date: 02/04/07 08:29 AM

"Anderson Silva had knee surgery on both knees just 11 weeks ago. That was why he was so easy to take down, and that was why he couldn't squeeze 100% when he had Lutter in the triangle. I ran into his manager after the show and he told me the whole deal. His knees were still very sore. Later that night I ran into Anderson in the hotel, and he was limping like he was just double knee barred."

    Damn... :o

Tyson Griffin let me down, but that was the fight of the night without question. Edgar was VERY impressive and will be a nice addition to the LW class. That kneebar attempt by Griffin at the end was sick! Rogan screaming - "Oh, I'm not even fighting and I'm tappin from that kneebar!!"

Terry Martin called out Swick and the entire MW division...tap the breaks buddy!! He's a big dude for 185 lbs though...

and Hoger lost, which is always good. A thieving -bag AND another MFS fighter losing...love it!!

LOL...yea, that was odd...Smith was obviously desperate to buy some time and Cote wasn't sure what to do.

    Other funny moments...

Rampage - "Had to commit some black on black crime"

"Lutter is like the MJ of the grapling world...."

    "Uh, no he isn't"

    "Ok the Kobe!"

    "Um, no."

Here's a translated CC interview after the fight...

    http://mma.tv/tuf/index.cfm?ac=ListM...33&FID=1&pc=11

Interesting that he claims that he didn't know about the press conf and nobody came to get him (hard to believe!). Dana specifically said that they had already butted heads about it the day before. There's also mention about UFC 70 in England...and what do you know...CC is now on the list:

UFC 70: APRIL 21, 2007 IN MANCHESTER, ENGLAND AT M.E.N. ARENA

-Mirko Cro Cop (#2 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. TBA
    - o Ortiz (#8 Light Heavyweight in the World)* vs. TBA
    -Forrest Griffin vs. TBA
    -Michael Bisping vs. TBA
    -Dennis Siver vs. TBA
    -David Lee vs. TBA
    -Cheick Kongo vs. TBA
    -Abdul Mohamed vs. TBA
    -Jess Liaudin vs. TBA
    -Elvis Sinosic vs. TBA

    Feed him Kongo...hahahaha

Or Hardonk if he ends up on that card...

More rumors about Vera leaving the UFC...
    http://ufcjunkie.com/2007/02/03/anot...leave-the-ufc/

Has to be either Elite XC, who has their first card this weekend, or Pride. Rumors have linked him to both. He attended the Elite press conf and also appears on the promo video discussing one of his training partners...

If he's being a pain over money with 1 fight left on his contract, feed him to Crocop and send him packing...

I read this yesterday and am very cynical about it. First, there didn't seem to be anything wrong with Anderson's knees in October when he demolished Franklin. Second, 11 weeks ago was in November, and he didn't seem to he hobbling around at the UFN Finale when Lutter beat Cote. Lastly, how is 11 weeks enough time to recover from double knee surgery, train for the fight, and get cleared by doctors?

Rogan now doesn't think that Silva was squeezing 100% while applying the triangle? He changed his mind from his during the fight comments. Lutter was preventing himself from getting choked out because he had his hand creating distance, not because Anderson wasn't applying enough pressure.

I may be way off as far as the surgery is concerned, but I know Brazilians are notorious for excuses, even in winning. If there is one thing Lutter showed everyone, it's that if you don't stupidly run into Silva's game like Leben or Franklin did, he is not invincible. Don't get me wrong, I do respect Silva as a fighter, but guy's like Marquardt are probably way more confident in fighting him after seeing what Lutter was able to do.

If he did have surgery it was no doubt a quick scope where he'd only be off his feet for a couple days. Maybe to clean out some crap or something? Probably wouldn't be too hard on him as far as missing training time goes...

Silva didn't throw a punch or kick for the first 90 seconds, which I thought was odd. I guess he was waiting for the takedown attempt??

If Silva was feeding Rogan BS (or whoever else he told) he must've done a good job because I don't think Rogan would go online and post it if he didn't believe it...

I think Marquardt has the best chance of anybody in the UFC right now. If they brought in Lindland I think he'd beat Silva. I don't know if that relationship will be fixed though...and I don't know that Dana wants such a goofy looking dude as champ (honestly).

I like Swick and think he'd be a good champ, but I don't see him beating Silva right now.

Play by Play...some funny $hit in this...
    http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles.asp?n_id=6679

10:09 p.m. Some stern-faced Croat is shown — Mirko something. He doesn’t look so tough.

10:30 p.m. Anderson Silva is seen in his dressing room, cool as ice. He looks like he’s in the lounge of a club. Someone hands him a drink with an umbrella in it.

10:39 p.m. We’re back in Silva’s dressing room, which now sports a strobe light. In the background, staffers are busy installing a stripper pole.

10:46 p.m. Eastman comes out looking relaxed. And why not? He’s a prison guard by trade. Climbing in the Octagon must pale in comparison to fighting off sexually repressed men with homemade knives.

10:48 p.m. “Kick his f__in’ ass!” A Rampage fan advises Jackson on strategy.

10:59 p.m. Liddell is seen book-ended by two blondes. It doesn’t suck to be Chuck.

11:24 p.m. Silva is seen napping backstage, cradling a Vermont teddy bear. Two blondes are picking up their clothes off the floor.

11:29 p.m. Eddie Sanchez walks out looking like he’s on his way to a root canal during a Novocain shortage.

11:30 p.m. Mirko comes out to the PRIDE theme song, which prompts lots of giggling online. Some lucky staffer must have had a talk with him about the current popularity level of Duran Duran in the U.S. Mirko countered with his favorite Wham! track, but was refused.

11:33 p.m. In the ring, Cro Cop paces and waits to pounce. It’s surreal to see him in the Octagon. His quads are the size of o’s head.

11:35 p.m. Cro Cop and Sanchez receive their final instructions from Steve “Boogie Nights” Mazzagatti. (hahaha...his mustache is the WORST!)

11:35 p.m. Cro Cop stalks a backpedaling, doe-eyed Sanchez; the air is thick with tension. This feels like a Discovery Channel special about to go horribly wrong.

11:36 p.m. Cro Cop lands a glancing kick to the ribs. The audience oohhs and ahhhs, incredulous a heavyweight doesn’t have the striking ability of an amputee. To them, watching Cro Cop is akin to the introduction of color television.

11:41 p.m. Joe Rogan asks Mirko to talk us through his victory. Unfortunately, Cro Cop met his daily quota of syllables (seven) in the pre-fight interviews. He stares at the microphone until Rogan pulls it away.

11:53 p.m. “Michael Jordan-esque in his grappling skills is Lutter,” a Yoda-channeling Goldberg intones.

“No,” Rogan replies, mortified. “No, he’s not.”

    “He’s not that good?”

    “No.”

    “Oh.”

11:54 p.m. I decide to give Goldberg a break. By my count, this is only his 71st UFC. He’ll get better.

12:02 a.m. Silva appears to be sipping from a Jack Daniels bottle between rounds. I fear he’s taking Lutter a tad too lightly.

12:07 a.m. A triumphant Silva screams some angry Portuguese. That shot of booze did nothing to calm him down.

12:08 a.m. A dapper-looking Wesley Snipes is seen applauding Silva. Blade is looking relaxed despite a recent TKO via tax audit.

12:10 a.m. Tim Sylvia (Pictures) is spotted drinking a Red Bull. Xyience executives immediately start making ominous jokes about “hunting accidents.”

12:13 a.m. Griffin walks out to Eye of the Tiger, immediately endearing himself to anyone under the age of 35.

12:13 a.m. Fired up and wishing to pummel some raw cow torso, I race across the street and ask my local butcher if I can beat his meat. He threatens to call the police. I return home.

I'd say yes since he knew that is exactly what Lutter was going to do.

Rogan's online posts are funny. His critisizms of Herring during the fight (which were justified in my opinion) which were pretty bold sparked alot of reactions. After he went online and posted a litany of what he meant behind those comments. He was probably scared of Heath coming after him!

Yea, I like Rogan. He's obviously a fan of the sport (not just UFC) and tends to say too much at times. I'm sure it drives Dana crazy sometimes...

He knows the ground game too, which is cool. Goldberg on the other hand doesn't seem like he's learned jack squat even with all the events he's done...

    Take a look at Edgar's post-fight interview...Rogan interrupted it...funny stuff

Damn...$350k flat fee for Crocop...I bet the actual number is higher, who knows for sure.

$30k for Sanchez is a nice bump...figured it had to be something decent to take that fight...

Rogan on UFC 67 and Pride
    http://www.sherdog.com/videos/videos.asp?v_id=1061

    Good interview...

Pride punk'd the UFC by bringing Wand Silva into the ring with a Pride shirt on. He said the Japanese have a weird way of doing business, but it's smart.

He'll be at Pride 33 in Vegas this month...seemed really excited about it.

He's a fan of the sport, not just the UFC. He talked about Pride, IFL, Elite, etc...

    Gotta love Rogan...

I like Rogan. I mean if you think about it, who could replace him? Hes a certified black belt, has TV experience, knows the sport inside and out from all perspectives, calls a pretty-darn good fight due to his knowing 90% of the time what he is looking at.

I like him. Calling an MMA fight would have to be difficult. There are ALWAYS so many options, especially on the ground, to even accurately predict or call a fighters next move is pretty damn good.
