I'm probably the biggest Carmelo Spurs fan there is, but I said all along that Carmelo wasn't making the All-Star team. He just hasn't played enough games.
He's an amazing talent and will make 10+ All-Star games in his career, so he shouldn't worry too much.

Not to disrespect the Mavs or Howard, but a teams place in the standings at the break does not have much historical connection to the amount of Allstars.
The Spurs have produced three rings and the best record in the NBA since 1999, having been at or very near the top record at the break in multiple seasons. During this span, the Spurs have never had more than two Allstars, never had more than one starter and have yielding an average around 1.33 Allstars per year, if my recollection and math are correct.
Houston has been mostly lottery bound during this span, yet has produced TWO ALLSTAR STARTERS for a large portion of these years.
Howard got screwed. He should be named as a replacement, but the West coaches are out of line if they didn't think that Josh Howard has played like an All-Star to this point of the season.

Howard deserves a chance to be on the team but he is not having a better year than Marion. In fact Marion and Howard are pretty much even except that Marion is a better rebounder than Howard.
