I don't mind Sherdog - but I've always been partial to mmaweekly. But the radio show has been horrible since Ryan Bennett passed away.

    Question for you guys....

Do you like sherdog? In my opinion, I think it is awful. I think the writing is poor and a bit immature. But their access is incredible to non UFC related topics admittedly.

I am a huge fan of mmaweekly and mmanews.
Some of the journalists there are good (ie, Josh Gross)...others not so much. The forums are what they are...some really good knowledgeable people and some fighters, mixed with a bunch of trolls and dip s.

I like Beatdown Radio because of Josh Gross...the Savage Dog Show is "ok"...

I refer to MMAWeekly daily too though...

The sherdog forums would be better if they were roughly 40% slower. The forums are simply too busy, but thats not their fault. The fighters posting is great. I love that.

mmaweekly is great but as desflood mentioned, downhill since the great late Ryan left us.

And by the way, anyone buy into the rumor Jeff Sherwood no longer owns sherdog?

Dana White Confirms Signing of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

Posted by UFC Junkie on May 24, 2007 at 4:42 pm ET

UFC president Dana White today confirmed a recent report that the UFC has signed PRIDE superstar Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (16-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

On Tuesday the official Web site for Chute Box announced that Rua, winner of PRIDE’s 2005 Grand Prix Tournament, had been signed by the organization and might even debut at UFC 72 next month.

White confirmed the signing during a pre-UFC 71 conference call with the media today, but he said he wasn’t sure of the details of the contract and wasn’t certain when Rua may make his Octagon debut.

However, White did confirm that he considers Rua a top contender for UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell’s belt. Additionally, he stated that Liddell is only a few fights away from “cleaning out the whole division” and that he considers Rua one of the fighters standing in his way of doing that.

Based on those comments, one could reason that Rua may not have to wait long for a le shot. After all, it’s not as though the Brazilian hasn’t faced the cream of the crop already.

The 25-year-old has fought for PRIDE Fighting Championships since October 2003 and has racked up victories over such notables as Quinton Jackson, Ricardo Arona and Antonio Rogerio “Minotoro” Nogueira. His resume contains victories over a virtual who’s who of 205-pounders.

Of course, all of this talk about Liddell rests on the outcome of Saturday’s UFC 71 main event. But either way, the UFC wins. If Liddell holds onto his belt, that sets up the long-anticipated fight between Rua and him. And if Jackson wins, their rematch becomes a perfect main event for a future show.

I don't read the forums on Sherdog as much as I used to. The news keeps me coming back but the forums have too many trolls and kids taking up space. I peruse the forums every now and then but mostly I just check the news updates.

Good for them being so successful though.

    I hadn't heard that rumor...

The Underground Forum at mma.tv definitely has less trolls and more fighters that post there than Sherdog. I hit it up daily too...

No ...I stayed away from it for the longest time because the old schoool layout of their forums annoyed me, but with all the fighters that post there I kept giving it a chance and now it doesn't bug me.

Dana White: Diego Sanchez Nearly Retired Prior to UFC 69

    http://ufcjunkie.com/2007/05/25/dana...ior-to-ufc-69/

Diego SanchezWith today’s UFC 71 weigh-ins, I can’t help but remember the infamous weigh-in events from UFC 69 last month in Houston.

The day before a much-publicized main-card bout bout between The Ultimate Fighter 1 cast mates and (now bitter rivals) Josh Koscheck and Diego Sanchez, Houston fight fans got a preview of just how real the hatred was.

With a tiny stage and Sanchez’s temper boiling over, the usually-calm Sanchez shoved Koscheck. Sanchez tripped over the scale and fell backward, and as Koscheck stated, only UFC announcer Bruce Buffer’s quick reflexes kept him from flying off the stage.

The incident — which can be relived through a UFCjunkie.com YouTube video — had nearly everyone excited for the following day’s actual fight. Unfortunately, all the pre-event hijinks overshadowed what eventually became a lopsided and perhaps unspectacular unanimous-decision win for Koscheck. As I’ve stated before, he won the fight more with brains than braun and implemented a seemingly fool-proof plan.

Although Koscheck took the brunt of the criticism, Sanchez was far more inactive than his opponent. However, according to UFC president Dana White, there was a perfectly reasonable explanation for Sanchez’s sluggish performance.

During yesterday’s conference call with media members, White said that the organization actually planned to announce Sanchez’s retirement from the sport during the UFC 69 weigh-ins. Early tests indicated that the 25-year-old was suffering from Hepa is C, a blood-borne, infectious, viral disease that often tears down a person’s liver.

Before the fight, though, subsequent tests suggested otherwise.

    As White explained:

“We kept testing him. The doctors were baffled. They eventually decided that he doesn’t have Hep C, but they didn’t know what was wrong with him, so he goes in and fights that sh—y, horrible fight.“

Soon, though, they learned what the problem was: a serious staph infection.

Sanchez woke up the day after the fight and had a hole in his thigh “the size of a coffee cup,” according to White.

Despite the seriousness of the problem, White said he expects Sanchez back in the UFC soon and looks forward to his fight.

Even with the recent defeat, the now 17-1 fighter (6-1 in the UFC) remains one of the welterweight division’s top contenders. Sanchez is also one of the organization’s most marketable fighters and could become a key centerpiece to the UFC’s move into the Southwest and Mexico.

White recently stated that the UFC would put on a show in Mexico in early to mid-summer 2008.

Franklin turned down a fight with Paulo Filho after Kampmann was hurt...WEAK!!! Filho is my prediction for the future champ...that was his chance to be 1 fight from a le fight...

    http://www.sherdog.net/forums/showth...hreadid=577755

    We'll see him soon enough...

    Filho + cage = domination

Yes, the "plan" has changed...I'm sure this was really the plan all along though...

I wouldn't fight any of them...

but Franklin probably wants nothing to do with Filho regardless...

I understand your point...but styles aside, Okami is certainly no Filho... (although I'm still picking him to win)

I don't think Rich is ducking anyone. He knows he has to compete at the highest level to get the belt back. But he certainly has to be methodical in his training and preparation at this level of compe ion.

Refusing to fight on a card that is about a month out because you don't like the matchup with the injury replacement is ducking IMO...

If it was somebody that Dana didn't care for all that much, I'm sure he would've just told him "too bad"...

I dont think Franklin was scared of Paulo. He just knew if he were to lose, it would move him down significantly in his race for a le shot. Filho is one spot ahead of Franklin in the world rankings. If he could beat filho it would put ace possibly at #2. I think Ace can beat Okami and Silva as well as anyone the current UFC middle weight class. I want Rampage to beat Henderson so Rich can prove he is the best MW in the world.(except for lindland)

What in the first Franklin - Silva fight makes you so confident??

How would a loss at LHW prove that Rich is a better MW than Hendo???

Lindland at #1 MW is a joke IMO...I don't get that.

Rampage beats Hendo. Hendo moves DOWN and loses.
