The perfect 3-4 tweener in free agency is Rashard Lewis, although he's going to command a big contract.

6'10" with long arms, can rebound and shoot. Handle the rock. He's like a better scoring version of Prince. Having said that, I don't think he'd be a good fit in the Spurs system. I've watched a lot of his games and the fact that I still haven't a clue about how he'd fit in the Spurs system is very telling to me, and probably a warning flag.

I like James Posey, and Bonzi Wells, if he weren't so crazy.

Rashard Lewis is perfect if you play that kind of girls' basketball where half the team stays on one side of the court and only plays offense.

Wait I thought spurs fans hated barnes after he body checked every spur's fans darling james white. I would like the warriors to keep barnes but you guys can have pietrus. I really like him as a person but he just hasn't been able to get it together, he still makes too many stupid mistakes. Its probably best he goes elsewhere, maybe popovich could finally get through to him.

didn't you know that Spurs fans love players, who know how to body check from time to time?

I like the idea of aquiring Barnes more than the Pietrus option.
btw.(maybe already mentioned) Spurs once offered Barnes a contract, (I guess it was 2004, when he signed with the Kings) so they at least were somehow interested in him. of course today he won't sign for the minimum anymore.

I like the idea of aquiring Desmond Mason. IMO he's currently far under the radar, so he might sign for a nice price. (talking about MLE). maybe there is a realistic option for a S&T including Barry (who the Hornets once wanted) and some more pieces. this would save the MLE for other moves. (Scola?)
btw. Mason is constantly labeled as undersized for the SF spot, listed at 6-5.
just read the measurements for the 200 draft. he was 6-6 without shoes and 6-7 1/4 in shoes, with a grat wingspan of 7". still not amazing numbers for a SF, but far from totally undersized.
Mason would provide defense, rebounding and athleticismn, at 29 he is almost young for a Spurs FA (Bowen was 30 when they signed him) and he is a more than decent offensive player. he is reported to be a great character guy and hard worker, so he should be Spurs material.
I also would love to get either Wallace or Nocioni, but I think Mason is a more realistic option and still a great upgrade of the roster.

If devean george opts out of his contract... he would be a nice long SF that knows how to win championships off the bench. He is a hard worker and wouldn't cost too much. Plus it would weaken the mavs which is always nice.
You can have him. He gave us nothing against Golden State.

Supposedly the scuttlebutt is he wants to come home (Waxahatchie native)and play for us. I hope that's the case, I don't want to see him on the Spurs.

The only reason Mason would be a Spur is if Finley opted out and the Spurs needed a veteran to replace him. He may have one of the ugliest shots in basketball, but he's not terrible. Still, it's a longshot that he's a Spur in 07-08.

Horry gave us absolutely nothing in 2004 the first year he was on the Spurs in the playoffs. Sometimes it takes more time to adjust.

For the money, Devean would not be a terrible pick up. Some of the other ideas here would require us getting players at a discount, even at the full MLE. That is not very likely.

Not a fan here, either, of Desmond Mason. Lousy jumpshooter, which is practically a must in our offensive schemes - we'd be 4 on 5 most of the time. Otherwise he doesn't offer anything we can't find in other players on the roster. I'd rather develop James White and/or develop rookie wings, if it came down to it.

    NO thanks to Mason.

I am all about the Spurs developing their young guys in White, or whoever they may draft. I also think that the Spurs will be wary of signing players to more than one-year deals because of the potential to have significant cap room in 2008.

Having said that, I'm not sure if it's the Spurs' style to pass on adding complimentary veterans. A guy like Mason just seems to fit that mold.

Agreed. But to his credit, Mason is about the hardest worker on the Hornets team (with the exception of Linton Johnson) and he is the epitome of a character guy. Just a complete pleasure to be around.

Is Miki Moore (C) from the NJ Nets a FA? I think he would be a great fit for the Spurs.

    Yes.

Hes also over 30 like the majority of our team. I'd prefer to get at least a little younger.

Mikki was a Kidd beneficiary and not as good as he looked. He'll be getting too much money this summer, anyway.

He was a Spur at one point, btw.

Mikki Moore is a skinnier version of Francisco Elson...though I didn't think that was possible. He has a decent 15-footer and not much else. I hope Mikki, and Elson for that matter, are not in the plans for the Spurs next year.

If thats the case then he was never effectively a Spur. It's like when JR Smith got traded to the Bulls...they moved him to Denver within a couple days and never played a game with him.

Or better yet, when the Hornets drafted Kobe Bryant and moved him the Lakers. Nobody ever talks about Kobe's time with the Hornets except to shove it in their face. Of course Kobe's exodus from Charlotte was much like his current cohersion to leave LA. Hes been a about both.

    But I digress...

I could've sworn it doesn't matter because the Spurs already have an ungodly skinny center with no post game. And again, I'd prefer neither...

Count me in. Before we have any talk of trading this guy I want to see what he can do with more PT. He looked good in his minutes last season. Lets see what the kid can do.

Man, I hope Oberto and Fin come back.

I think Vaughn and Bonner are worth re-signing, too.

Ely can walk, or re-sign for the minimum.
Cleveland wants Udrih, I say we trade him for Varaejao or Newble, who used to be a Spur and who is an excellent defender.

I doubt they do a deal for Varajao unless it's Beno plus picks, and IIRC Newble's contract is bad....long and more than he's worth.

On Beno, I think the Spurs should wait to see how the draft and FA flesh out before deciding what to do with him. If the Spurs nab a guy like Gabe Pruitt and re-sign Jacque...Beno will be gone for a couple second rounders.

    Newble is toast.

Varejao will get tons more interest elsewhere and Cleveland will seek to retain him.

By far the better choice is to trade Beno for zippo in terms of players and try to wrest a future second away.
