I know, but do you not want to make the playoffs when Duncan is gone?
The worst thing that could happen is to be a borderline playoff team. The only way to get to the top, or near the top is a high lottery pick.

If Spurs really want to keep Parker they will do everything they can to make him stay. He is not married to the franchise. I think for the right money and if the Spurs continue to show an interest in building a playoff bound team year after year while he's here then he will stay. If he wants to leave then maybe it wasn't always about winning. I think you also have to understand that it's going to be a huge drop off from playing with Tim Duncan to whoever the Spurs get. Maybe he will just call it quit with the Spurs when Manu and Tim do to.

Tony's game TO THIS POINT has been predicated on quickness, but would you agree that he has improved in every facet of the game, especially his jumpshot, so that his quickness is not his only asset?

IMO, Tony has the talent and work ethic to grow beyond just being that guy who scores by being faster than everyone....and he has already begun to show signs of being able to do that.
I agree Tony has improved every facet of his game, especially his outside shooting and decision making skills (ie. PG skills), but could you imagine him without his quickness? He would be an average bench player, he won't be able to start for most, if any, teams in this league. His whole game is based on his quickness.
Will he grow into an all around PG that could age into somebody like a Jason Kidd or Steve Nash? I don't know, I hope he could.

I always took it as a foregone conclusion that Tony would sign with the Lakers in 2011. Tim will be 35 then, and the le-winning days will be over.
    Wishful thinking on your part?

Exactly living here in NY i saw it first hand with the Knicks. When Ewing was all done they needed to get rid of everyone have some lean years and rebuild through the draft. Instead they traded him for Glen Rice amongst others and tried to patch a team together consisting of Houston and Sprewell to the playoffs every year. One of their biggest rivals from the Ewing era was the Heat. When Mourning got sick they allowed themselves to be bad for a few years and BAM here comes Wade in the draft. Spurs need to take a lesson from the Heat and let it blow up for a while and rebuild your team the right way through the draft.

I apologize if this has been posted.

In the Sports Illustrated "Spurs: A Dynasty in San Antonio", there is an article on Tony and Eva.

On page 60, Tony is quoted as saying:

"We need to live in the same city, so naturally my decision [where to sign when contract expires] is going to be effected by Eva and her career."

Eva adds, "Are you sure you want to say that? You don't want Pop to get mad."

Now, the article says Tony's under contract until 2011. Also, Eva loves San Antonio, and they're building a house here.

On the other hand, Tony has always wanted to be a superstar like Michael Jordan... I have to wonder if he feels San Antonio is just not going to get it done.

    Tony wont leave S.A. ok?

I can see him leaving. He's more of a "me" player than a team player. Unlike the rest of the Spurs.

I think it's quite possible TP leaves the Spurs. Nearing the end of his contract I could see a sign and trade for some young inexpensive prospects. NO TEAM will ever win an NBA le with their best player being the point guard. (Leave Magic out he could play all 5 positions..) When, not if, we are in the rebuilding mode I could see a split as a mutual decision..

Isiah Thomas said "Hi!", but then, Parker is no Thomas (not as good, and probably not as stupid.

in 2011 parker will be AI status and will definitely be a franchise player to build around. hopefully he'll stay but can you blame him if he leaves? if i were him i'd leave in a heart beat too. stay on a spurs team without duncan/pop or play in a big city with big $ and fame? hmmm tough choice...bye bye dirty river.

Tabloid story. Eva and Mario have been friends (platonic) for a long time and Tony is friends with him too. They never "got chummy" unless that means just friends Tony isn't someone who is going to be pressured into marriage. He has his head on straight.
    I really hope you're right.
