I used to work at Six Flags over Texas. I wondered about the safety of rides then (this was in 88 and 89). It was just a few years ago when the Roaring Rapids flipped over and drowned a woman. I saw the Texas Chute Out parachute ride get stuck at the top back when I was a kid. The wind started blowing and the people stuck had to walk off the ride onto a crane. That was scary to watch. They since do not allow the Chute Out to go all the way to the top. When I worked there, I know plenty of ride operators would be out late getting drunk and then show up at 8am to work a 16 hour shift. How safe can it be with these people working the rides? You just have to hope the machines do their job and don't screw up.
