im thrifty.
Thrifty with great taste! Thanks for sharing.
I have a basic Sony Turntable, and a back up one that I don't remember the brand of! Nothing classy like your console. That baby's a keeper!
z has a really sweet unit too...its amazing that there are still so many of these things in such great condition. maybe if we ask nice like post a pic of his console...and collection i envy his metallica records.
My mother's got an extensive vinyl collection (ranging from 78's from the 1920's through punk and early hip hop of the 1980's) that will someday be mine. Tons of good in there that I'm dying to get my hands on.
My own collection is music that I like to listen to, but since I don't have a turntable at the time, I've mostly been going for cover art. And my stuff is all weird. Started out looking for stereo demonstration albums from the 60's and have ended up with a pretty sizable collection of cheesy lounge music -- Esquivel (including a copy of "Music From a Sparkling Planet" on red vinyl), Martin Denny, Les Baxter, Yma Sumac, etc.
I love vinyl and would probably listen to it more than CDs if I could, but I just haven't had the time, money or space necessary to really get it all together.
what kinda music is all that? is it like a bossa nova? or more lounge? i dont recognize any of those names.
Nice console ZStomp!
I've got the albums, you've got the system!
Most of what I have could be categorized as exotica (popular in the 60's, typically uses traditional Latin rhythms but adds a vaguely island/jungle-y theme) and space age pop (arrangements of traditional standards using a standard band/orchestra AND non-traditional instruments). The space age pop is what first developed from collecting the stereo demo records and it's fun to listen to because the sound bounces back and forth between speakers.
I thought I was the only one still into records. I don't really collect them anymore but I have a lot from let 70s, early 80s including several of U2's early ones (my favs). A lot are old ones from England that can't be replaced by CD, I've tried. Most of them are all scratched up from listening to them so much but I still treasure them.
Reading this thread I've cranked up the turntablewith probably it's 10th needle.
I have just over 100 of 33 1/3 LP's on vinyl.
I have to name a few:
Queen - A Night at the Opera (Bohemian Rhapsody, You're My Best Friend)....I have been told that it is an original and not a reissue. Although it pops and hisses so much almost sounds like popcorn when you play it. I must have worn down to being paper thin....you can almost see through it.
Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
Lots of Billy Joel, Charlie Daniels (Every Album)
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gold and Platinum
I used to buy those K-tel albums too...okay I can hear the jokes now.![]()
Yes I do have a stereo system to play them on.
On my way to my parents, they are throwing me a B-day cookout.....along with my brother (his was Thurs the 12th....but forget him)
Thanks.![]()
I'd be glad to take it off your hands.
Exotica as in Yma Sumac? You have a Yma Sumac vinyl? Good god.
I absolutely love vinyl for jazz and blues recordings. Outside of live, it's my favorite way to listen.
There's something different about the way vinyl sounds.
I'm trying to get it into words.
Deeper? Warmer? Layered?
Like you say, besides live of course, jazz and blues sound better on vinyl.
So does most rock I think.
The "clean" sound of CD's seems to take something away.
I think "Alive" is the word I'd go with.
Works for me.
I know what you're saying. It's almost like the sound is "richer". Instrumental and vocals come out much better; that's why I love to listen to live albums on vinyl.
Nothing beats listening to a Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis or Nat King Cole vinyl.
"Richer" I like that too.
Miles Davis, on vinyl, in a dimly lit room....![]()
Exactly, and in my case a bottle of something alcoholic. It's a beautiful thing.
I had a friend that, when he was younger and dumber, had a quarter pound of hydro from california and rolled all of it with that rolling paper. I'll have to find that link of the video they shot of them rolling it and smoking it.
