rolling stone is crap anyway.
Frank Zappa needs to move up some IMO as well.

Welcome!! Now I'm waiting for someone to start the "Greatest Cellist" thread, I'll argue that all night!![]()
Jimi or Pete
[QUOTE=mrsmaalox]Yo-Yo Ma.
'Nuff said.
I knew if I kept reading this thread I'd be reminded of a whole bunch more to add to my list.
EDIT:
Also remembered Billy Zoom. Maybe not one of the greatest of all time, but he's always been one of my personal favorites.Mark Knopfler

George Harrison wrote some of my favorite Beatles songs. I love "Only a Northern Song."
What no Kira Kratzoff or Kirill Timofejeff?!
![]()
You're insane!!
(again)
Jacqueline du Pre, William Pleeth, and Mstislav Rostropovich rank way above Kratzoff or Timofejeff.
But, I still rank Ma above them all because of his range.
Have you heard "Apalachia Walz" or "Hush" (his collaboration with Bobby McFerin)?
He's simply amazing.
What about the greatest violinist?
(don't use Itzak Perlman . . . that's too easy)
Definately Charlie DanielsWhat about the greatest violinist?
He played the fiddle.
Jean Luc Ponty
Well you are absolutely right! I just mentioned those other 2 guys because my daughter and I met them yesterday and she thought they were "hot"(she's 11 and taking cello lessons)
Okay I'll go with Isaac Stern, teacher of Itzak Perlman and Yo Yo Ma
And 13 spots ahead of Randy sits Joni Mitc . That list is the worst steaming pile of crap I've ever seen.
Damn good choice.
Where the is Joe Satriani?

A violin is a fiddle; a fiddle is a violin. There are no differentiating features period. The only true reason you'd call one instrument a violin and the other a fiddle is the approach...someone who plays fiddle tunes, a fiddler, will address their violin as a fiddle.
Not true.
The fiddle is smaller and more narrow.
It produces a different sound from a violin, which is larger and more broad. The viola also resembles a violin in shape, but is much larger and broader producing a deeper, more somber sound.
Saying that a fiddle and a violin are the same is like saying that the Cello and the Double Bass are the same.
And, that's simpy not true.
This list is garbage.
The fact that untalented, overrated s like Thurston Moore and Jack White are high on the list, greats like Tony Iommi and Eddie Van Halen are so low down on the list and guys like Ted Nugent and Michael Schenker were completely left off or the list just underscores that fact.
I disagree with you saying that Jack White is underrated and untalented. However, I agree that Tony Iommi and Eddie Van Halen should be so much higher on that list.
Ted Nugent, though, I don't see as being especially talented. I'll take Jack White over him any day.
sweaty teddy would blow jack white off the stage. he's a jackass, but he can play.
