I think a proactive Scola is of greater concern to Dallas than it is to us.
I remember being in a Spurs chat room the night the Spurs drafted Scola. Everybody in there loved Scola (the Spurs were rumored to be interested in him before the draft.) I was saying things like "Just say no-la to Scola" and "Scola is slowla." Not very popular that night.
Since we have a new Scola thread, I'll repost my comments from the game thread here. Scola still seems like too much of an international player to me. Most of the foreign players who have thrived in the NBA are more athletic. Tony Parker, Manu, Nowitski, AK are all more the classic slashing NBA type. Scola is more like a guy who grew up in the international game, playing zone D and shooting jumpers.
Scola always looked like a better version of Oberto, but he probably can't play the 5 like Oberto. He would be of little use against the scrambling roaches of Dallas (still the main c erion for second line Spurs players IMO).
Scola nails the mid-range jumper which almost no one in the NBA does anymore. That will earn him a niche. But that's also where Duncan operates and Pop likes players (even subs at the 4) who can be on the court with Duncan if need be.
While Scola is much better than Bonner, Pop likes Bonner and not Scola. Unless you're too good to ignore, that characteristic will trump many others in the Spurs locker room.
Scola is so unusual by today's NBA standard that it's hard to predict how well he'll do in the playoffs -- he's a wild card. Like Don Nelson 40 years down the road in a time machine. If he can adapt and learn he'll do fine, but I still don't think he was a good fit for the Spurs.
I think a proactive Scola is of greater concern to Dallas than it is to us.
Thats actually Rasho . But considering he isnt Argentinian I guess you wouldnt know the difference.
You can tell Tony and Tim apart I hope.
And the "Put Beno In" thing is a joke from the GTGs... so STFU unless you know what youre talking about.
Tmac being out is going to help the Rockets get more comfortable in the new offensive system. Sure he was averaging 28ppg but the offensive possesions started and ended with him and Yao...no one else touched the ball except for a bail out shot etc.
Scola was awesome, he is exactly what the Rockets needed (well outside of a decent PG that is)....we appreciate that the Spurs gave him to us, and it will only get better.
His confidence was a little down, but scoring 20 against the NBA champs is only going to help both him, his coach and his teamates have confidence in him.
The future is bright in H-town, if McGreedy can learn to play OFF the ball.

If we have an official Scola thread shouldn't we have an official Bonner thread being how it's pretty much a faceoff between the two to see if we made the right decision in the offseason.
It should be called "The Official People Who Only Bring Up Scola When He Does Well and Not the Other Nine Games When He Sucks Thread."
You are a bunch of pussies.
totally agree
Very happy with the Spurs in the clutch and also not gonna do 5 pages of the other Scola thread.
Scolls hits another jumper from the side over Duncan. Brings Rockets to 80-80 and Scola to 10-11 on the night. He doesn't get another shot off.
Rafer Alston next throws up some 26 foot crap with 22 seconds left on the shot clock.Yao hits a couple beauty jumpers (traveled on the 1st one fadeaway over Duncan but still sweet).
Scola does not get another sniff. With Michael "Nails D" Finley guarding him.
What gives Adleman?

You've answered your own question.
he was on fire that game, really bad move on his part
I see Scola making the starting lineup for them in a few weeks at the most
Adleman has always been good at offense IMO. In fact would have been a great Spurs Offensive Coordinator had he been willing to take a position as other then head coach.
Granted his Portland teams underachieved but they had good movement on O and his 2002 NBA Champion Kings had very good ball movement offense. Those Kings teams also had injuries much of the time and yet he kept them competetive. So i expected more in that last 3:45, at least some Scolls shot attempts. He was open.
they were just looking to get the ball inside to Yao,and when they couldn't and the shot clock was already at 7/8 secs. they just took some ugly shots from the perimeter.
looks like Scola is better than 1st year Manu. I am really scared Scola in the coming years.
I think he's a fair Xs and Os coach, and knows something about motion, but he spent WAY too much time trying to get the ball to Yao instead of figuring out how to put the ball in the hole. When a team is selling out on the front for a big man, something else somewhere is open and easily available. You find that, you get them out of the fronting defense. When teams do this to Tim, Pop either moves him into the high post and lets the guards attack the out of the basket, or runs a guard to the baseline to hit the OTHER big man at the FT line, who then gives Tim an easy bounce pass in the lane. You take what they give you.
that's not true. there's been people posting @ the scola thread in NBA central every time he played a game.
Go and Look,PUSSY.
adelman is a ing dumbass. anyone who watched the kings the past few years recognized this. i can't believe rockets fans were excited about this guy. luckily, the rox have a great lineup and might do very well despite adelman. of course, rick will get all the credit because sports media is full of morons.
Scola had a great game against us. I give him credit for that.He got more looks since T-Mac was out. And I think he was motivated to do well because of the situation.
He is a more atheltic version of Oberto but can't play the 5. Better player than Bonner but can't hit the 3. So far can't rebound either. I think he will be a good to very good player in the league. Probably even a solid starter for the Rockets. He will only get better as time goes on but the league will adjust to him, too. But what's done is done and all the talk about how the FO really screwed is senseless. It's over so move on. Nothing can be done to change that. Did I want him here? You bet I did but in the long run I still believe that Tiago Splitter will be a better addition to the Spurs than Scola. Different position with a different skill set. He's a 5 and we need that more than another 4.
I wish Scola the best but want Tiago to continue to develop with Tau so next year we can add him to the center rotation.![]()
great video Cherry, thanx for posting the link to it.![]()
Honestly,I think that we need a natural PF for the years to come tham another Center.
Duncan is more a center tham a true PF at his age,and we can have tiago next year if we need him.
That said,we need a PF with some interior scoring for the yrs to come, more tham a another Center.
right now at Center: Duncan, Oberto, Elson,Mahinmi
Next year: Tiago
What's left for the PF spot for the next 2 or 3 seasons??Bonner??????????
Well at least we won. Duncan seemed frustrated when Scola was hitting his shots. And the guy is still humble. He stayed great on defense too.
Props to him. He's making a case for ROY, but Durant will still win it anyway.
