I think they're doing a good job differentiating this Joker from Nicholson's. Jack's was more polished, a career crime boss who went a little nutty, and it worked for him. Problem was you always knew it was Jack being Jack, like when he danced to Prince. This Joker just seems like an all-out anarchist, unstable and fearless, and Ledger is completely lost in the role. Looking forward to it.
